They're asking the price of the system and you can't do shit with it. Heck, the Canadian price is gonna be MORE than the system.

NOBODY WINS.

So the camera is required, as it says in small print. Terrible quality Twitter video pic.

PlayStation 4 system and PlayStation camera required.

So how much is the total package?

415-440€

Man, my finger is itching to hit that pre-order button so fast when it comes up!
Same as, but tbh really want to see decent info in the next 6 months - really want to be happy with the game selection opposed to the 'experiences'.

Ive got a PS camera, 2 moves and a nav controller as well as the sharpshooter - Im ready :p
Sony please, if the camera is required for PSVR, THEN PLEASE SELL ME AN EXTENSION CORD FOR YOUR PROPRIETARY CONNECTOR.
Wow they never got around to do that? Damn now wondering if I need to move mine - any info where the PS camera has to be for PSVR?

"Tight-budgeted" console gamers? I think you're putting the cart before the horse here. You expect people to throw down almost $500 for an experience they've never tried? It's not like they can view videos on YouTube and get the idea. You literally have to try VR to "get" VR. The only way Sony is going to get a critical mass is releasing something that's an impulse hype purchase, i.e. something under $300.

releasing it at christmas time tho is pretty smart.... do it at the end of October then it's in that perfect zone when parents/people are willing to go out to get the christmas gifts, and that'll be the new hot item for this christmas (assuming Ninty doesn't come out with something, all signs pointing to NX tho i guess)

If VR has any chance of success, this is gonna be it (due to the price point).

It's all in Sony's court now. They can make or break VR.

Lol at Sony shipping a product that won't even work out of the box if you don't buy a camera.

Nintendo style.

People will be able to pay less this way depending on what they already own. If there was only one bundle with the camera and moves at - say - 499, it would be more expensive than it needs to be for some people. A headset only sku is a necessity if they want to lower the price as much as possible for those who already have the camera, moves etc.

My all in price will probably be 450 with the accessories I already have. That's better than the 'full' bundle is likely to be, thanks to a headset only option.

I have the camera from Day One and I have two moves (and two navigations) from my PS3.

399 is a GREAT price for me.

Oculus and VIVE... RIP.

Going to save my pennies to upgrade my GPU and get Vive. $399 isn't a bad launch price for PSVR. However, the camera isn't included and if I'm going to pay close to $500 for everything... I want the top end experience on PC.

I expected the price to be $350, the same price as the console. Also, Europe gets it "cheaper" than the US considering the 399 Euro price includes 20% VAT, well technically nearly the same price after taxes using current exchange rates since sales tax in the US is 7-9% instead of 20%. I thought it would be 430-450 Euro to make up the difference if the US price was $399.

Lol at some Sony fanboys saying they won already the "VR wars".

$400 with an inferior screen and fov in the HMD, without the camera for positional tracking, and without any controller.
vs $600 of the Rift (with camera, wireless Xbox pad, good audio solution, 2 free games, case to transport it and even a remote control) vs $800 of the Vive (with 2 Lighthouses, 2 controllers, integrated camera for chaperone/AR) isn't exactly winning already the "VR war". It's more like the expected, or even a bit more expensive than that, because I supposed the camera would be included, maybe even one Move controller.

Oh man, why does it always have to go down that route?

They need to make sure people understand the camera is required or a lot of people wil be extra bummed if they unpack their 400 bucks device and fuck all works.

Honestly, for anyone who truly, genuinely expected PSVR to cost $399 with the camera and move included, or any version of PSVR for cheaper than $349 is a crazy person.

When Oculus announced their price I was worried. It got worse when HTV/Valve announced the Vive's price. The onus was on Sony to deliver and when it comes to price I believe they have.

I think it has the best chance of taking VR to the masses.

Not bundling the camera isn't much of an issue for me right now. I can just pick one up anytime from now until October, same with the Move controllers.

399€ is no surprise for me.
But I hoped they would include the camera into the set since it is important for
the whole thing. Now its a bit strange. Like selling a console without controllers.

Anyway no day one for me. I´ll wait for better games (if there will be better games at all for the first gen). Also I would like to have eye tracking or something like that. And as far as I know that isn't included in the first gen of VR-Headsets.

PlayStation VR requires the PlayStation Camera, which is available separately. #psvr

They should probably have included that in the box, lol

Unless there are millions of people out there who already own the camera, omitting it doesn't seem like a smart move.

When I think about it, if the camera was included, people who already have one would likely complain.

They could have made two different packages but that would come with the risk that one is bought a lot more than the other.

Great price in terms of what VR costs among the major players. Even the $100 GearVR is expensive when you factor in needing a high end cell phone ($700-900) to use it

MUnited83

For you.
How is it not an excuse? How much does the camera cost to manufacture? How much does the Psvr? If they wanted 399 as opposed to 429 or 449, the lack of camera makes perfect sense.
Again, the camera's is pretty cheap, at less than 15$ to manufacture. They could have easily included it at 399$ and still have a good profit margin.
Dont try to excuse shitty moves.
It'd be more of a scam to jack up the price by the cost of the camera when people already have them.
Thats implying they couldnt include it and sell at the same price. Which, well, they could.

Seriously guys, do I need the Move for certain games or am I good with just the DS4?

While I think the $400 pricetag is shitty, let's not be naive. A $400 VR solution where the only needed hardware is a PS4 vs. a $600 and $800 VR solution that requires a capable computer on top of your initial investment. It isn't hard to see which solution VR proponents are hoping does well to get more people on board.

Obviously Sony has a much greater chance to be the point of reference of VR for the mainstream, by the virtue of needing a million selling console vs needing a $900 gaming computer. No doubt about that.

I was just commenting of some posts that were pretty... funny in their unbridled enthusiasm, the whole "Sony did it again yeees!". I could understand that reaction if they announced a price of $300, not $400.

I think I have a Move controller I never used shoved in some box in a closet. So, that'll be handy (but I wonder if I'm going to need a second one?). As for the camera, I'll just be scouting from today until October to try and grab a cheap one.

I'm still not preordering; that's usually a fool's errand. I'll wait for reviews and opinions at launch before jumping in, but I'm glad the price is reasonable.

I'm sure if the base SKU included the camera, half the people in this thread would be complaining about being forced to buy something they already own :)

Hmmm buy $44 camera or hope for sales again on it or hope for a bundle... guess I'll wait :x

I'm definitely preordering when it comes up! From Best Buy with 15 day no restocking fees incase I vomit all over when I put it on lol

There are plenty of used move controllers out there in the stores. You guys better buy some now before the stores jerkholes raise the price of it close the PSVR launch

Because 3D tracking in space and gyros amount to nothing at all.
Not really, at least not from the perspective I'm looking at this: in the end, the vast majority of VR development will focus either on traditional controls, or fully tracked independent VR controllers.

The fact that PSVR does not ship out of the box with the latter reduces its spread to only Vive owners, and those who buy into additional peripherals for Rift (Touch) or PSVR (Move).

I think that's a huge shame. I was really counting on PSVR helping to boost that VR controller base.

hmmm, no, DS4 can be fully tracked in VR. Spatially and rotationally. Most other DA controllers do neither.
Yes, I'm aware of that. As I explain above, I don't think it's particularly relevant from a development perspective. If you want to develop for actual VR controls, users having a DS4 will not cut it to interact with your game, and you'll need to either give up on them or have a separate fallback mode.
