So the camera is required, as it says in small print. Terrible quality Twitter video pic.
PlayStation 4 system and PlayStation camera required.
So how much is the total package?
Oh come now, that's not fair. The DK1 never had a camera and impressions of it were very, very positive at the time.
Same as, but tbh really want to see decent info in the next 6 months - really want to be happy with the game selection opposed to the 'experiences'.Man, my finger is itching to hit that pre-order button so fast when it comes up!
Wow they never got around to do that? Damn now wondering if I need to move mine - any info where the PS camera has to be for PSVR?Sony please, if the camera is required for PSVR, THEN PLEASE SELL ME AN EXTENSION CORD FOR YOUR PROPRIETARY CONNECTOR.
Are they compatible? I still have some dust-collecting Move controllers from my PS3 time around hahEBay listings for old move controllers are about to start gathering a hefty premium....

"Tight-budgeted" console gamers? I think you're putting the cart before the horse here. You expect people to throw down almost $500 for an experience they've never tried? It's not like they can view videos on YouTube and get the idea. You literally have to try VR to "get" VR. The only way Sony is going to get a critical mass is releasing something that's an impulse hype purchase, i.e. something under $300.
Well there are those that dispute this, despite there being plenty of evidence to the contrary.EVERY Ps4 controller is a true VR controller, with tracking, silly person.
Lol at Sony shipping a product that won't even work out of the box if you don't buy a camera.
Nintendo style.
I wonder how many people have VR ready PCs. Gonna guess it's less than 36 million
Does Occulus or vive work without being plugged into something else? That is not the definition of a platform.
$549 CAD: http://mobilesyrup.com/2016/03/15/sony-announces-playstation-vr-will-cost-399-usd/
A bit high given the current state of the dollar but if it keeps going up then I would expect the price to drop before launch.
So if they release a sku with a camera bundled in for an extra $50 you will be ok?
I'm kind of shocked the camera isn't included. It's hard to believe that the PSVR will work without it.
Lol at some Sony fanboys saying they won already the "VR wars".
$400 with an inferior screen and fov in the HMD, without the camera for positional tracking, and without any controller.
vs $600 of the Rift (with camera, wireless Xbox pad, good audio solution, 2 free games, case to transport it and even a remote control) vs $800 of the Vive (with 2 Lighthouses, 2 controllers, integrated camera for chaperone/AR) isn't exactly winning already the "VR war". It's more like the expected, or even a bit more expensive than that, because I supposed the camera would be included, maybe even one Move controller.
Camera required but not included??? Holy shit what a scam.
PlayStation VR requires the PlayStation Camera, which is available separately. #psvr
I already have the camera, wtf would I do with another cameraCamera required but not included??? Holy shit what a scam.

Again, the camera's is pretty cheap, at less than 15$ to manufacture. They could have easily included it at 399$ and still have a good profit margin. How is it not an excuse? How much does the camera cost to manufacture? How much does the Psvr? If they wanted 399 as opposed to 429 or 449, the lack of camera makes perfect sense.
Thats implying they couldnt include it and sell at the same price. Which, well, they could. It'd be more of a scam to jack up the price by the cost of the camera when people already have them.
While I think the $400 pricetag is shitty, let's not be naive. A $400 VR solution where the only needed hardware is a PS4 vs. a $600 and $800 VR solution that requires a capable computer on top of your initial investment. It isn't hard to see which solution VR proponents are hoping does well to get more people on board.
VR isn't going mainstream with these prices.
Not really, at least not from the perspective I'm looking at this: in the end, the vast majority of VR development will focus either on traditional controls, or fully tracked independent VR controllers.Because 3D tracking in space and gyros amount to nothing at all.
Yes, I'm aware of that. As I explain above, I don't think it's particularly relevant from a development perspective. If you want to develop for actual VR controls, users having a DS4 will not cut it to interact with your game, and you'll need to either give up on them or have a separate fallback mode.hmmm, no, DS4 can be fully tracked in VR. Spatially and rotationally. Most other DA controllers do neither.
Wait why is the camera required?
