started a new game with elminage 3, felt like replaying it with the first game coming in a couple days on pc. game isn't really hard when you know the game ect. but while I played I was thinking ''it would be so awesome if the game had some kind of Ironman mode, when a character dies, he's gone''.

Once stranger of sword city(US) is out, I really have to try that, a run with only 1lp character hehe.
I don't remember if they show dead character before staff roll at the end. I kinda liked it with Ufo X-com when I played classic Ironman, had like 12 dead soldier lol.
would be nice if they added some kind of mode like that.
maybe with Demon gaze 2? hehe.
I wonder if anyone sent them some idea.

I always wondered why that was. Since out of all the contests Ive seen for the US it always said excluding Quebec.

has to do with loto quebec I think. all gambling ect is with them...

same for alcohol, only the SAQ can sell alcohol unless you're a pub or something with a licence(I heard they're a pain to get). if you order online and they catch it when it arrives here, they'll keep your alcohol in a warehouse and you'll have to pay some fees.

so yeah gambling and alcohol in controlled here.

I worked for a company that made casino games(they mostly sell in US) and to put a few games here in some casino, we had to deal with loto quebec.

thats interesting had always thought that the laws were the same with canada and quebec.

You know that new style...it looks awful but not everything does. I mean some will probably prefer it but at least, for me, I don't find it as awful as a whole any more.

So I finished Operation Abyss and didn't even have the 1000 battle trophy. And now I'm going back and forth and back and forth in the first door in the sewer. Ugh.

Yeah thats never a fun trophy to do if you are one who excessively kills things all the time lol

Saw on their twitter that they finally officially confirmed that the JP XBO ver will have English text options in the game for SOSC

It's weird, I thought I was being cautious and taking my time exploring all the side areas... But then I see from the trophy rarity that most people had already gotten the 1000 battle trophy before even getting to the latter part of the second semester. But I got the Unity gauge trophy very early, so I guess most people didn't know you could spam it for rapid stat boosts.

Really looking forward to the Vita release. Anyone know how similar the basic systems are to Demon Gaze and Operation Abyss? From the trailers the classes certainly seem familiar, with Dancer being the noticeable addition.

The combat in general is the same along with how the similar classes function.

The main large changes is the ability to change class 5 times and bring over specific skills to other classes with unlocked skill slots. Though to gain more skill slots you need to change classes and reach a specific level I think to gain said slot for that class. Then from there its unlocking the skills that you want.

Each time you change class also it halves your level. Though the upside is you will gain more HP than a character who has not changed class at all.

Also the hiding / ambush system is something new. While not as "specific" with being able to pick what you get from fights like DG with the gem system, you can at least see what type of equipment you can expect from the treasure from the relief on the chest.

Oh yeah permadeath and the life point system is also the other big gameplay mechanic. The "older" you set your characters age the better starting stats you can get as the bonus point roll max number increases, though your Life Points decrease. It can be 1-3 life points depending on the age. More LP = lower starting bonus point roll potential. Lower LP = higher starting bonus point roll potential.

LP can be regained when lost by items or healing at the base. Though 1 LP characters if they lose that LP its permadeath time lol. So gotta be real careful with that.

I played through all of Abyss without realizing there was permadeath for exhausted characters. It thankfully never happened to me, though with all the dungeon shortcuts going back and saving was never a problem even if I didn't want to use a recorder. How is saving in SOSC?

And is there anything similar to the demon/unity gauge? I felt those played a big part in making Demon Gaze and Abyss relatively easy.

Yeah in Abyss I never actually had that happen to me. Happened to my friend by accident though.

SOSC saving is pretty much done when you return to the Strangers Guild and save from the menu there. So if someone kicks the bucket after a long haul through a dungeon and you got some pretty great loot you really will have to think hard about if you want to leave them dead or load up old data.

There are 3 ways you can leave a dungeon as there is no actual spell which allows for you to do it easily.
  1. Butterfly Nest - A respawning "enemy" in the dungeon where you can select to exit from the dungeon or attack it and get a large amount of exp and butterfly related items.
  2. Buttefly Wing? - I forgot what the actual name was in the JP one, but anyways this is gained from attacking butterfly nests and is a fairly rare expendable item. Using it will take you out of a dungeon. Most def do not suggest using these unless you really have to.
  3. Magic Stone - Are locations that you activate in the dungeon and once activated act as a checkpoint you can warp in / out from. Though there are times when a lineage species respawning causes the stone to become inactive, so you have to march back to said location and kill whatever enemy is sitting on the stone.

The unity gauge exists, though this time around its basically called the "morale" gauge. Which works with the ambush system. This time around you most def will have to use it to survive as there are unity skills that help protect against bad status / magic / help attack first / up accuracy & evade etc. With the permadeath system in play you really need to think on a more defensive level. Though there still are incidents regardless of how careful you are randomly something might hit one of the more fragile PT members killing them. D: So generally its a good idea to give those characters higher LP.

The way it fills up is the same, which basically is through combat or returning to the main map screen.

You gain the special skills from which faction leader you choose to give the blood crystals to. So thats a bit of a deciding point for when you play the game.

Though most def I can imagine people will go with Riu and Marilith most of the time just due to the type of skills they offer. Though Alm does have some useful ones.

Oh yeah item wise in SOSC there is no upgrading system like in Abyss or Demon Gaze. So basically everything is to be gained from using the ambush system. Rare items you can "re-roll" for them by feeding them to the mumic who appears at random. Its a bit of a pain in the ass with that, even more so since it means you have to carry around said rare items you want to attempt to feed to him. But basically how the games system works is the higher level your characters are, the better chance of getting higher stats on equipment is. Or more like raises the "cap" on the amount I think.

Also the JP twitter had announced this, though the only thing "new" about it is just the packaging that holds both games Abyss / Babel.
https://twitter.com/event_EXP/status/704223371429441536

Just to have will be buying one to collect making me have like almost 3 copies of both games due to the standard and LE of both abyss and babel + the 2 copies included with this.

Basically its buying the box as stupid as that sounds lol. Damned good design with the box though dig how they managed to combine the two together.

It is a nice looking box I can agree with that.

I still wonder if NISA is going to do babel or not. Since if they did it would be pretty far off Id imagine seeing how SOSC is pushed back into April, then they have their own DRPG also which most def would get localized just due to it looking like a title that the parent company is spending $$$ on.

Heres the JP site if you are not familiar with the game.

I forgot from where but I thought I heard that Abyss didn't do too hot. Or at least not too well compared to DG. I'm under the impression that they weren't going to do it. There doesn't seem like too much demand for it. I'd personally like it just to finish up the story and sub-classes seem like a great idea but I'm not too hopeful.

NIS's DRPG looks pretty promising. More dungeon crawling goodness on the vita! I'm not too eager for it to come out so fast though since I'm slogging my way through DT2 and SoSC is just 2 months away.

Btw on a separate subject had just woken up and was curious to see if reviews were on metacritic since saw the Exp twitter had retweeted some.

Looks like 3 are on metacritic so far.

http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-one/stranger-of-sword-city

Id imagine the vita will score around the same too as the core game mechanics between the two and story is still the same. There are some small differences such as the end dungeon and a few lineage species but all the other important stuff is the same. So would more come down to what one would prefer to play on.

i tried a migmy fighter once and never again lol

though i did have a migmy samurai.

yeah I don't really remember their stat but I guess I'll have to rely more on class like ninja than fighter. well having only 1lp will gives a few more stat points lol. but some part of the game will be really scary.

Migmys have so low vit that trying to use any as frontliners is suicide lol Esp the samurai with the ashura skills as the moment the roll to dodge fails bend over and kiss your ass goodbye :D

I generally find Exp.'s DRPGs challenging enough without gimping my party but if you can pull a full Migmy run you have my full respect. Then again you get half of it already just by trying.

don't worry, I'll do this :D

the jp vita version should have enough portraits to make the 5 other migmys thanks to the lost chronicle artwork.

only way to get enough hp though is by grinding and changing classes for the hp bonus. id imagine you would want to make the MC the knight as a vanilla migmy wont have enough hp for that.

wow I just looked when the US vita version was releasing and it's only by the end of april. guess I'll start it with jp version and just play normally with the Us ver. since I am bored a little now.

I ended using up the same portrait a little. doesn't really matter. but wow like you said, their hp suck lol.
I finished the first dungeon and almost lost my samurai in one battle.
I think I'll farm a bit before meeting with the other guild, I remember there's a nice guy waiting lol.
