Is Kotaku in danger of shutting down?

I'm pretty sure everyone, even Gawker, knew that this kind of shit was bound to happen eventually.

It's just a shame that they're connected with some actually useful websites.

Super conflicted about this. Would I love to see Gawker disappear once and for all? Absolutely. But the handful of talented journalists and critics over at Kotaku being out of a job would sting.

Umm, not really when there's jobs at risk.

And regardless of what you think of Gawker's other websites, Kotaku is actually one of the good ones. Especially since Totilo took over and with people like Schreier, Kirk and Klepek putting in great work.

There's jobs at risk because people at Gawker thought they could do whatever they wanted. I'm happy that the idea you can do whatever you want when a celeb is involved got turned back. Just because someone is a wrestler or on a TV show or whatever doesn't mean you have a "journalistic right" to post their leaked sex tape or leaked nudes.

i've been begging for over 5 years.
Sucks for the good guys like Schreier. He seems like a good dude and solid journalist. I hope he lands on his feet.

That PS4 post is really dumb. Ugh

Anyway, going to start taking notes on the writes behind Kotaku and io9. Will need to follow their future output in case their spread to other outlets.

Gawker is a POS company anyway. I stopped visiting after the security breach that released all the account info years ago.

Also the Patrick Klepek curse lives on. This would be the 5th company to fold he has been involved in?

I'm sure 4chan are celebrating by watching old WWF clips. I hope sneaky press fuck Jason Schreier and his colleagues that weren't involved in this mess (for clarification, yes, I know Kotaku wasn't involved. I'm referring to Gawker as a whole) land safely on their feet.

Fuck :(

Absolutely hate Gawker and was so happy to see them get nailed today. That being said I hope the people working over at Kotaku can get stable work quickly should that be a thing.

If they can't win the appeal (or afford to launch one) I imagine they'll have to file for bankruptcy and Kotaku and the rest of their assets would be sold off.

FYI, for people wondering what happened

Gawker was ordered to take down the video by a judge when they first posted it and refused. Surprised they didn't get contempt of court.

Schreier lost my sympathy when he posted about losing sleep over a non-editorial member forcing Gawker to stop taking part in a blackmail scheme rather then, y'know, the actual blackmail.

You should see Klepek's mentions on Twitter. It's nothing but a bunch of 4channers (or what seems like them) saying "WE TOLD YOU SO!"

Wow so many tweets giving anime a bad name.

I hope everyone affected finds a place to land.
Exactly what I'm talking about.

Well, that PS4.5 thing is a good last hurrah thing for them to go out on.

It wasn't my personal favourite game site, but I absolutely respect the people who work for Kotaku and hope they can land on their feet. First Gametrailers and now then... Yikes.

Gawker as a whole got what was coming to them but Kotaku's death is a sad side effect.

Mods are still sleeping or enjoying Friday but it is fun to watch two threads about same topic compete with number of posts :D

I never liked Kotaku that much (I liked some of the Jason's stories) but I don't like when people lose their jobs.

American lawsuits are so funny, how in the world can this be worth at least 115million..

I'm guessing it cost Hogan in terms of stuff like endorsements. Exaggerated amount of money, maybe, but I guess that's what it takes to kill a piece of shit company like Gawker.
