Batman [Mafia] |OT| The mafia game Gafia deserves , but not the one it needs

Surprised that the game stalled a bit so quickly. In an effort to not stay focused in the same area. I'm glad Goddamn has checked in. Fairly good opening post, not much to really say on it, Mazre seems like an easy vote right now but I can't really argue that it's a bad vote. Time passes and Pop is still MIA.

As far as people who have been posting. I'm still keeping my vote on Coppa, he gave me the obligatory "oh, what do you need from me?" but has since disappeared so I'm not really appeased at all. In other news TL21 and Trigger have still stayed very low key since their initial posting. Karu and Ty4on to a lesser extent.

Something I did notice while looking back through the thread is that Flame hasn't really commented on anything game-wise since we've started. Mostly mechanical stuff like scum numbers but no real reading or reactions. He answered weemad's questions from earlier today but they weren't exactly hard hitting questions. And he originally RNG voted Kark but then changed the reasoning later to keep the vote on saying he didn't approve of the no lynch vote. It bothers me because Kark is someone that I could see scum trying to knock out early, the highly erratic play can knock out a scum without much chance for defense and they could be trying to avoid that. Coming off of just watching Kark running around free lynching in Love Boat, I could see that connection.

I'm also well aware that I'm reaching a bit there. I want discussion and most of all I want the quiet people in the game to not be allowed to hang back in the shadows.

3/4ths of the last page was cluttered with batcomputer/prep time nonsense. Something tells me mafia will be glad to see him live.

Well, I am talking about posts from before Kark started with the batcomputer stuff. I'd have to agree that they'd rather keep the confusion in the game now if Kark is town or neutral.

Free lynching? I kicked scum's ass in that game. I fully expect scum to be afraid of me.

Yeah calling it free lynching isn't quite honest here. You were certainly very methodical in your targets. That, however, was also based on you having a direct role that have you strong information. I'm willing to bet you have a reason for playing the way you are, I'm just not sure what it is yet or if it's protown.

That's what I get for paying half attention whilst playing SFV. I meant Sorian.

I'm also wary of you, weemadarthur, for the same reason but to a greater extent because they are superficial means to appear helpful.

I don't quite understand your second sentence. I'm more suspicious than Sorian because you think I'm fake scum hunting? Is that it?

Karkador, it's all great to see information from the batcomputer. But what is your reads list? Please do a complete one so the AI thingy doesn't contribute more than you do.

Xam, if the day were to end in an hour, who would you lynch? Do you have any hard hitting questions to ask anyone?

In reality, it wasn't RNG in the first place. Just a nice, fun vote. His no lynch vote, even though it's retracted now, is enough for me to keep my vote on him for now. I'm not really feeling what others are with Mazre. I think that scum is much more likely to kill you than they are Kark if we're speaking in terms of top scum targets. Kark is probably alluring to his role, at least that's my take on it. A bit on the nose though, then again no one else has tried to grab the spotlight so he's taking it. He probably won't be the one lynched today, but like you, should be watched as the game progresses.

Nearly every game I've played has had Coppa in it, and we've always been on the same team. Currently, he's playing like he did when he was town, at least to me. Though he hasn't thrown around his vote as much as he normally does. (Maybe he's trying to keep a low profile in the first day or two. Or he's just busy right now.)

What is making you town read Coppa then?

This is my issue though. Joke votes are fine, I don't mind them but something smells weird when someone finds reason to keep them in place. It gives a level of deniability later if the person ends up flipping town.

He's still seems town, maybe I have a blindspot because I've never played against him, but he seems to be on our side. I won't be able to give you anything to prove that though.

I'm fine owning my vote, I won't do it without a purpose. I led with it and then Kark's no lynch merely reinforced my own view him right now.

Mazre, I guess
Um
I don't really have any hard-hitting questions that actually have a chance of getting answered (looking at you, Karkador)

OK. I kind of went to bed around the time the games started, and drug my feet getting caught up on the thread. Might as well give my $0.02 on a few things:

-Trigger's vote on me...doesn't bother me. It's just an inactive prod, so I assume he'll take it off after I post this.

-El Topo...eh, I'll be honest and say that I do half-agree with him on not liking read lists all that much, if only because feeling obligated to typing them up are huge, tedious waste of time, and I feel like a good portion of the playerbase just doesn't have that much interesting to discuss about them so I'd rather just talk about the ones that are interesting me right now, but his attitude about divulging any of his thoughts or information strikes me as wrong-headed at best, anti-town at worst. From what I understand, though, this is just his usual play-style, but I'd still recommend he be for forthcoming in the future, if only to avoid a possible early lynch.

-The interaction between Wee & Fireblend in the first couple of hours definitely set off an alarm bell or two for me. I know that they apparently had some history in Disney Princess, but, even then, they just seemed too close for my personal comfort, and, even after they distanced themselves from each other, I still feel like it's something to pay attention to in the future.

-Mazre's claim is definitely fishy, especially since they're claiming ordinary with no pressure whatsoever. I don't know what he's playing at there, but those along with his odd predictions definitely don't sound all that good to me.

-And now onto Kark...
God.
I.
Just.
Don't.
Know.
What.
To.
Say.
I had the..."privilege" to watch his play in late Love Boat, and my god, was it ever infuriating, and, while I didn't have much of a problem early on in this game, once the Batcomputer horseshit started, I realized that his playstyle is going to be an absolute millstone around town's neck, and that whatever mindgames he's trying to play are just so comically overwrought and impractical that is leaving me with the temptation to just lynch him for the sake of town's sanity...

I'm not telling him anything he doesn't know. He's already admitted to a bunch of other hypocritical statements. "Hah, look at me, showing my cards". His refusal to play isn't making me feel any better about him.

Scum made some blatant obvious giant errors in Princesses. I mean, thanks, but...I'm not claiming to be the next great mafia player. I'm just doing my best.

Well, crap.
When I reread that one post it does seem that way. Maybe I should go back to self imposing some post restrictions to slow myself down.

Anyway I was trying to push a fast response that would be...maybe not very well thought out. But you responded instead. Not much chance of it working after this conversation.

It's nice to see you join us Pop-o-Matic.

Anyways, I think I will focus on the three people who have been making me the most nervous so far:

El topo: He was active in the first few hours of the game, but has quieted down since. Moreover, he has been somewhat hostile to other people, has been keeping his opinions to himself, and has been trying to actively discourage people from stuff such as read lists. The whole "if you post a read list the mafia will use it against town" argument was particularly scummy.

Now, people have said that this sort of behavior is typical of El topo, but to be frank, I'm not going to trust the second-hand opinions of other players. I've never played in a game with any of you before, and I have no reason to go along with any of the rest of you people's pre-existing opinions of the other players. I don't want people to hide behind reputations they fostered in previous games that I wasn't around for.

So for now, I won't be giving El topo a pass.

Next up:
Camjo-Z: He has been acting similarly to El topo. Camjo-Z also spent the first few hours of the game joking around, particularly with the (presumedly) joke role claim and some interactions with El topo. Now, Camjo has made some slightly more substantial posts recently, but has also expressed some open disdain for the first day proceedings. However, I can't really accept dislike as an excuse for not participating in it. A lot of your posts have been more fluff than substance.

Mazre: The role-claim of a vanilla good-guy just seems either selfish or purposely misleading. I don't like Mazre's actions, and his subsequent posts haven't really made up for how he started.

Mazre, I'm not really in favor of a policy lynch against you just for role-claiming, but you need to make one heck of a strong effort soon to make up for it.

Now, there are a few other people who collectively have been around, but have not been posting a whole lot:
Karu, Trigger, Coppanuva, and TL21xx.
I don't think you guys are necessarily acting scummy, but I haven't seen a whole lot of you guys.

Finally:
Sorian: Yeah, I'm actually suspicious of you for reasons other than your post count now. You are awfully defensive of other people. You are quick to step in and cover people, sparing them the job of actually defending themselves with their own words. When someone criticizes the likes of Karkador, El topo, or Xam, you swoop in and defend them with the likes of "It's how they post in every game". You are doing a very good job of playing the part of the fake town guy who is there to defend your mafia colleagues.

I think for now I'll leave my vote on you, Sorian.

Meh, finding town is just as important as finding scum. If I think something isn't particularly scummy behavior and someone is trying to make a big deal about it then I'm going to call that person out. Take it how you will. Let's play a game though since I'm pretty sure you just chose some names at random there. Find me a post where I defended El Topo.

I ask you to do that because I'm pretty sure I haven't, I've actually been one of Topo's attackers over his attitude about reads list and just generally not wanting to play.

Oh boy, this stale complaint again. Let's plug it into Kark's batcomputer and see what it thinks.

Subject admits Camjo has made more substantial posts recently... but is still trying to push the angle that he is not participating in Day 1? Does not compute... does not compute... DOES NOT COMPU- *explodes*

Okay, a quick perusal of the thread has proven me wrong about you defending El Topo. What I was thinking of was this post made by FluzWaveZ instead. I misremembered it as one of yours since it is similar to other posts you have made. FluzWaveZ's similar avatar color palette doesn't help matters.

It's El Topo's modus operandi in every game I've played with him. Don't read into it as a sign of alignment too much.

Anyways, I would like to see people defend themselves with their own words. I don't know them like you do, and I am still waiting for Karkador to explain himself to me. Back in posts 350 through 352, I ask Karkador a question, you step in to cover for Karkador, and then Karkador bypasses responding to me entirely by quoting your response to me. Now, I don't necessarily think Karkador is scum, but I don't yet trust you enough to just take your word for it.

You'll actually notice that Kark just straight up ignored you. I didn't cover for him, I asked him a question too and he decided to answer me with snark instead of an actual answer:

What's with this semantics argument?

In our current information vacuum (with the exception of the Batcomputer), 12 people in this game have a vote dropped on them, and 6 people have no vote on them.

I'm not stating anything conclusively with that, but I think it's a point of interest.

Don't worry, I'd actually love if you pushed Kark more, I do think he is town at the moment but I have no clue how scum Kark acts so I'm hardly sure of that analysis.

You know, the more I think about the claim made by Mazre. The less and less I like it. It seems so opportunistic and it only really serves to either benefit himself or scum, neither of which I want helped. A claim, especially something like ordinary where one doesn't really matter anymore just makes scum that more likely to hit a power role tonight. In all honesty, Kark is probably town, but I'm not convinced yet and will look more closely on Day 2 after we have some deaths to go off of. Scum has no reason to ever hit Mazre now as he is a pointless target, the longer he lives the more suspicious his claim will get, so I think a lynch now might be most useful for us all. This vote might start a bit of a bandwagon though as I think he is now going to be at 3(?), but hopefully people give reasons.

Yes, it is true that it is ultimately on Karkador that he ignored my questioning, but your post did seem like you were saying: "Kark always acts like this, don't think too much about it." Which seems to be along the lines of several of your other posts on Karkador. Furthermore, you yourself never brought up the fact that he ignored me, even though you were in the middle of a page-long discussion with him. If you thought that his ignoring me was significant, you certainly didn't bring it up. Instead, you seemed to be getting more defensive that you were on his list, even though though that list was blatantly nonsensical and pointless.

I didn't mention you specifically but I most certainly called Kark out for ignoring people on the last page:

It hasn't though? The list existing is what has gotten under my skin. I could have been omitted from the list completely as a forgotten player and it would still be bugging me. You posted something that I am convinced is random and tried to play it off like something that mattered (you still do with little remarks like "the information vacuum we are in (well except for the batcomputer of course). You can say you aren't hiding behind it but this is your only meaningful contribution today (well that and some conversation on neutrals and probing if we think two face would be one such neutral). Most questions that people direct at you go ignored or brushed to the side.

Would you care elaborating on what contradictions you are looking at, and what you are taking away from them? I would happily explain, but I am also curious on what your take on it is.

There's nothing special about them, but I'm stating that they are there.

1. In what way was *I* the one who seemingly interrupted your dialogue with Karkador between posts 350 and 352? Were you talking about Sorian? I asked you for a link, because I am not seeing it. That didn't happen.

2. As Sorian elaborated on above, it didn't seem like anyone was covering for Karkador at all. Someone ignoring you or deciding to not reply to what you're saying and instead choosing to reply to someone else doesn't mean that the "someone else" is covering for them.

As I detailed earlier today, I think, (I can find the post if you really want, I think it was my big "reads list" post), there is a scenario where Mazre is an important town PR that is acting selfishly purposely to stay alive and unhindered. This is all WIFOM for scum so I really don't mind talking about it openly. Do you not worry that he is a doctor for example that did this hoping to brush away night kills?

No, it wasn't you covering for Sorian. I think you were covering for some of El topo's behavior earlier in the thread using similar logic: "That was how that poster posts, so don't think anything about it". I simply don't like that way of thinking for two reasons:
1) It leads nowhere but a dead end.
2) I don't know these posters as well, so it requires me to trust people I can't yet trust.

It would simply be bad play for me to just go along with these statements.

Furthermore, these sorts of posts give the posters in question (Karkador and El topo, to be clear) an excuse to not address the criticism themselves. If they feel that other people are supporting them, it takes away any pressure I can put on them. At the start of this Day phase, people pointed out how I made an error by taking the pressure off my vote too readily with my statement. This is the same sort of thing, just with a different mechanism.

Oh! I see, never mind then. I'm not used to always reading one's entire post if I'm directly quoted. Since I pretty much always have this thread open, I'll go for what appears to directly be referring to me, and then I'll overlook the rest later.

Sorry about that, SkyOdin, though you could probably see my confusion.

I shouldn't bring up previous games too much, but this line of thinking was exactly the one I had when I started as a newbie and people were telling me a certain player—who acted very peculiarly—was "always like that." As someone who doesn't have knowledge of how the players previously played, you should be wary about habits you think are alarming. But, as someone who is familiar with that particular player, I do know that this is how they always behave, even when they are Town, so it's not a particularly compelling point to me (or others who also know this).
