Yep, i can see this whole PS4K stuff going to massively backfire for Sony. If those plans are true, of course.

New 3ds doesn't count for reasons.

Hm, Nintendo basically "did" this before, with Gameboy Color and Pokemon Crystal.

And iirc, there has been some fair share of criticism with N3DS and exclusive games.

And finally, don't you think a console doing an intermediate hardware jump isn't a tad more problematic than a handheld? I sure didn't pay 400,- € for my 3DS, but i did for my PS4.

I really can't get down with this new model of console cycles. Won't be easy missing out on GT and GoW but I'd really rather invest that money into my PC and monitor.

Damn that seems like a pretty significant increase. It makes sense though if they are going to really push VR. Im probably going to be getting a 4K tv in the fall so it'd solve the issue of being able to play the blu Rays.

Why is this a bad thing? So PS4 still plays games at PS4 quality and PS4K plays them at PS4k quality. Nothing is lost for PS4 owners.

I firmly held the opinion that it'd at best just be upgraded UHD player with HDMI 2.0 support (and upscaled games at best) and that the insider sources were misquoted.

All games will run like they do now with the curre t hardware limitation of the ps4. Why is everyone butthurt that a kickass ps4k is available to take advantage of newer technology? Sounds like jealousy.

Sony owes you nothing. Theu are a company to make money and thinking they need to keep archaic hardware around for a decade does not do this.

Personally, I'm not even bothered by PS4 getting lesser versions of games. Obviously, if you have a more powerful and a less powerful box, the less powerful box will be....lesser!

What really frustrates me (if this is true) is the open admission that devs are already making games for the new hardware and that "sacrifices will have to be made to get the games running on the old hardware".

I don't know, it doesn't seem that bad IMO. You'll be able to sell or trade in your PS4 to knock a good $100-150+ off the price, while still being able to play all of your games unlike with previous generation changes where you lost everything if you got rid of your old system. Plus hopefully we can avoid that horrible period toward the end of each generation where hardware is just too shitty to keep up with what developers wanted to accomplish.

499 sounds too cheap for a gpu 2x as powerful as vanilla ps4. And a new cpu...nah. I think it will be more like 599 and even with that Sony will be eating 50-100$. But they probably won't mind since its gonna decrease in only months time.

Amd is transitioning to new smaller nodes. They have been stuck on 28nm for years.

I think this is a huge mistake, but then again I never felt a single urge to buy any of the recent consoles due to lack of power so who knows.

Honestly if older games (ps4 og -> ps4k) are going to require patches to take advantage of performance, thn I see this pushing more people towards PC gaming where a GPU upgrade will work with every game.

its great, the normal PS4 will play the same games just less graphics. the new one plays better graphics for the people that wanted better looking games. nobody is forcing you to upgrade as you can get the same game for your vanilla PS4. its a win win.
