Why is it a fuck you? Your (vastly inferior) PS4 will not stop working. And you'll continue to be able to play future PS4 games (at subHD and sub 20fps).

I have the income at this point in my life and I could swing it, but basically if you play on this console with any regularity, you kinda need to spend 500 bucks for a new console because all of the games that are made for both are probably going to run like shit on the PS4.

This. Unfortunately it's also what I expected when the first rumors surfaced.. I really don't like them doing this.. Could turn me off console gaming. Why get a new console if it gets replaced in 2-3 years, and the one purchased isn't optimised for any longer. It's just way too short of a period.

Yeah, this wording is worrying and something that will need to be addressed clearly once it's out. Does this mean 60fps vs 30fps, 4k vs 1080p, 30fps vs 25fps with much worse visuals? It needs to be clarified.

I bought a PS4 on launch. I helped make it the best selling console this generation. If Sony does want to half the console cycle then they better make some concessions for this first time round. Let us trade in our current PS4s and only need to spend $100-$150 out of pocket for the PS4K.

The best trade in now for a PS4 is around $180.

If they offer a good trade in program then I'll consider it. If not I'm just switching full time to PC.

I really don't think they will, though.

I'm fine with the upgrade as people often buy new color bundles for the same near price. Look at it as a positive if they can pull off the ecosystem idea without damaging the brand.

Keeping a new unit for power and tech increases every two years is fine for me as long as we actually get good games and not shit games over and over.

PS4 hasn't even been out for 3 years. Sony will be dividing the player base immensely as well as making devs hold games back so they can run on now outdated hardware. And if this does come out it will be yet another generation of remasters.

A 2x GPU FLOP increase with a clock speed upgrade isn't exactly PS3 -> PS4 level.

This is about a half-generation upgrade, which makes sense given it's 3 years into the generation instead of 6.

If you've ever wanted to have the PC-esque experience of upgrading your hardware mid generation, this is a pretty good fit. You should see appreciable gains, but don't expect a full on generation leap.

Embrace the phone model. Charge me $30 a month for PS+ but give me a new PlayStation every two years.
