My Nintendo is a new rewards program and the successor to Club Nintendo.

You can sign up for it by making a Nintendo Account, and then start earning points in three categories by completing missions on the site:

Szho4nf.png

Miitomo Points: You can start earning Miitomo points by downloading Miitomo, Nintendo's first mobile game (not counting Pokemon). These are specifically earned by completing tasks such as making new friends, answering questions, getting hearts for answers, etc. These coins will expire after 6 months of earning them.

Platinum Points: The ones folks will start earning instantly. These are earned by completing more website and Nintendo-related tasks, such as linking social media accounts to your Nintendo Account, signing-in to Miiverse and the eShop, etc. Like Miitomo coins, these will also expire 6 months after earning them.

Gold Points: These are earned by buying games on the eShop. Note that these are NOT earned by buying DLC and themes, only actual games, and ONLY on the eShop, not physical retail games. As of August 31st, 2016, Gold Coins will now expire a whole year after being earned. Previously it was also 6 months.

And with points, you can earn a variety of rewards, such game code vouchers, coupons, 3DS themes, etc.

Three game code voucher rewards however are EXCLUSIVE to My Nintendo, these cannot be purchased on the eShop (anywhere for the first two, the 3rd for now only on My Nintendo in NA):

Awesome thread, thanks so much!

You may want to edit this:

Gold Points: These are earned by buying games on the eShop. Note that these are NOT earned by buying DLC and themes, only actual games, and ONLY on the eShop, not retail games.

Also, reposting my q's from the other thread:

1) Has anyone figured out whether download codes from MyN that normally cost $$, if redeemed, give you coins?

2) When you get a DL code, can you gift it, or is it automatically sent to your system?

The Android app doesn't work on rooted phones. Can't be a Nintendo product without being stupidly obtuse and nonsensical!

EDIT: nvm, this is about the rewards program, not the app.

Thanks for compiling the point redemption costs in one place. This information should be a lot more easily visible at a single glance on the main site, especially as the distinction between Platinum and Gold rewards is not necessarily clear. That you need to click through to individual rewards to find it is a step backwards from the old Club Nintendo, even if the sleek design and functionality of the new My Nintendo is an improvement in every other respect.

I hope some of the personalized discounts come up soon so we have a better idea of what they are like.

Gold points seem bad, because it's like "hey, buy our games digitally. Yes, us. Nintendo. The people who can mess up a 3DS transfer, and in the process, cause you to lose all your games!"

How come My Nintendo isn't a system that ALSO has, like... I don't know, some sort of "digital games you purchase are locked to your account" sort of thing? Like, I own Earthbound on WiiU. That should count as cross-buy, imo.

Best possible thread title. Awesome job, Hero!

Cross-posting from the initial thread:

I bought Birthright digitally at the time of its release. Now I wanna buy Conquest. The thing is, if you go buy it directly from the eShop, it's the normal $40 USD price, but if you download it from Birthright itself, it'll recognize you already own that and offer it to you for $20 USD.

What I want to know is, if I buy Conquest at the discounted price, would MyNintendo count it as downloadable content (which doesn't earn you Gold points), since I'm buying it from the game itself? That's kinda weak if so...

It'd be a shame to miss on Gold Points considering it's an actual retail title, yet again at a 50% discount I feel silly complaining about it. Does anyone know this yet?

Dunno about 2, but for 1:

The number of Gold Points that you can earn will be determined based upon (a) the purchase price of the game in the applicable eShop at the time of your purchase, or (b) in the case of download codes, the purchase price of the game in the applicable eShop at the time that you redeem the download code. Purchases of downloadable content, themes, and other similar content are not eligible to earn Points.

Sure, I'll add that in. :) Thanks!

My pleasure, thanks bro!

Man, DKCR is a pricy reward. As are all the Gold Point ones. The cheapest you can get GPs for is $5 (game) for $10, at a rate of 10 points for $5 spent, or 2 points/$1. Otherwise the most expensive way to get them is to spend increasingly more points. $9.99 games get you 10 points. That's 1 point/$1 essentially. If you spend $70 on a game you get 80 points, which is only $1.14 points/dollar; $79.99 also gets you about 1 point/1$.

That is to say, as soon as you're looking at a game more than $5, you're already losing out on the best possible value proposition for GPs. If you spend $12 on a game you get 20 points. That's 1.7 points/dollar.

The best bet is to find all the $5 games you want. But, are there *any* games that cost over $5 but less than, say, 7? Will games that cost $4.99 really net no points?

Even if you get a game for $6 and get 10 points, that's as good of a deal as $12 for 20 points. Everything after that is worse, unless you can find a game for $11.

If I'm messing up the math here, please do correct me.

The cheapest price for DKCR, at 230 points, is (at $5 for 10 points) $115. The most expensive price is $230.

Hmm.

How many gold points do you get per eshop purchase?

It looks like it varies depending on the price of the game. The list is under the Missions section.

See above :)

Yeah I need EU's stuff to add, like their rewards (you guys get better discounts! XD), and I'll add the gold point numbers also.

I should add all the missions also.

Like Club Nintendo before it, My Nintendo is a loyalty program, not an account system. Set your expectations accordingly.

The actual new account system is Nintendo Accounts. It is unclear how the features of those will expand in the future.

Is Miitomo not loading fully for anybody else?

When starting it get me my personality picture with easy going.

I took a screenshot and check it because your Mii is spinning to see if I got the front in shot, I did.

Went back and now it won't load fully even restarting multiple times.

It really sucks you don't get anything by purchasing physical.
Will miss Club Nintendo in that regard.

I have no idea what is going on. I bought Metroid Trilogy on 2/3/15 with my nintendo ID. Now it says I have no nintendo ID to register for a new ID??

I don't want to sign up for a new ID without linking the old one and lose my game since I don't have a Wii U.

Note for anyone who previously created a NNID and Mii for a child. They CANNOT currently have their own my Nintendo account. It is apparently coming in future but still sucks for kids affected.

I added a download code on Wii U eShop today a couple of hours after the release of My Nintendo, but didn't get the gold coins (it was worth 20). Will wait a bit more to see if they appear.

Sigh, I wont call My Nintendo a loyalty program right now, consider the fact that there will be no physical rewards. Also no points from buying physical games. My Nintendo is more like a connection service between Nintendo's mobile and console business, Nintendo said that before IIRC.

I'm really impressed by this and Miitomo. It's a shame that physical purchases don't mean anything now though, but I understand why.

So I've managed to accumulate 945 platinum points (and 20 gold) today. That's the maximum, right?

I only ask, cos I'm sure I remember people posting that they had claimed Twilight Princess Picross the day it launched in Japan...

Well there's a way to get points by entering codes. So maybe down the road they can include points codes in retail games... hopefully.

Did they make a mistake?

I'm sure they said Miitomo won't run on an iPhone 4.

I'm currently using it on an iPhone 4.

How long has WarioWare Touched been on 3DS? It's a DS title.

Followup question: if WarioWare Touched, a DS title, is now available digitally on 3DS, where's more DS titles and why can't I buy them? I'd buy Mario Kart DS, or Animal Crossing Wild World, or a whole other host of games if I could.

Platinum Coins and Rewards look really fair, that's neat. Cold Coins and Rewards are all poor.
