Zelda NX (Launch)
New 3D Mario (Launch)
Amiibo focused game (Launch)
Smash NX - all DLC + 5 new fighters and some additional single player stuff (Jan-April 2017)
Pikmin 4 - on Wii U aswell (Q1 2017)
Animal Crossing - its the best selling 3ds game in japan, im sure they had plans to get ac for wii u but scapped it for different reasons (Summer 2017)
Retros new game - it wont be Metroid Prime because its not a huge seller (Q1 2017)
Mario Kart 9 - im sure a new mario kart is coming in 2017 but they could announce it later
Pokemon Sun/Moon - it will be playable on the NX, maybe just BC

There wont be any remastered games, Splatoon 2 is either holiday 2017 or may 2018 and will be shown at E3 2017.

I'm hoping for a new Animal Crossing

Nothing chills me out more than AC

This right here would make the show for me and somewhat make up for the kick in the nuts last year's Amiibo Festival reveal was.

Still hurts.

Is a new Smash really likely? There were 7 years between Melee and Brawl and 6 years between Brawl and the 3DS/Wii U sequel.

We also have to consider the impact of the next 3D Zelda and 3D Mario projects from their respective teams. We drop them on a list like "oh another one", but these are going to be quite significant projects.

I wouldn't be shocked to see a Kid Icarus HD game and Luigi's Mansion game announced for NX after how well the last ones were received. It has been a while.

Zelda, Metroid, Mario, Beyond Good and Evil, some sort of sports pack in, a music game, a social mii game, support by Square in droves, EA, Ubisoft, perhaps Activision on stage.

Right, but I think Nintendo absolutely wants a Mario game at launch, and a 3D Mario seems like the way to go.

I am quite convinced that 3D Zelda is launch, and that 3D Mario is in the launch window. What I meant with my comment, is I think they are going to both be BIG projects that turn heads. We might get an Ocarina and Galaxy level of head turn with both games.

Um, 2D Mario sells better than 3D Mario. A 2D Mario at launch would lead to insane sales.

I think their focus on the 2D plane is Super Mario Maker right now. While the 3D team hopefully comes up with an exciting new fresh entry of the Mario series.

The only games I'm expecting are Mario and Pikmin.

I feel that if Smash continues on it'll be called Smash 5, even though it's using 4's engine ported over and not all characters will necessarily return to the base game. DLC will make a killing for them.

Mario Kart will be teasted. Whatever Retro has been working on. And I'd be curious what kind of 3rd party titles they've either snatched up as exclusives or have brought over due to deals.

Edit: I'm not convinced Zelda is coming to NX still despite the rumors. If they've had a lot of issues with the Wii U game, and the systems are said to be on different architectures-- developing the title for 2 systems becomes way harder. This is not a Twilight Princess issue where the Wii was basically a more powerful GCN and porting was fairly easy. I can see another Hyrule Legends-spin off title being there for launch though, which could be why the rumors are there.

I think an Animal Crossing game is a likely early release for NX. I would imagine that a Wii U version started development shortly after New Leaf, but was moved over to NX when they saw the low sales of the platform (Amiibo Festival then quickly developed with ND Cube to fill the gap). It makes a lot of sense for NX if, as is very likely, we're looking at a shared catalog between home console and handheld:

  • It would be an easy way to show off the idea of playing a game on both home console and portable, as you could visit your village either on the big screen at home or when you're on the move
  • It could show off the benefit of cloud saves, by allowing you to visit your friends' villages even when they're not playing
  • There's ample opportunity for a tie-in mobile game which links to your AC NX village
  • Animal Crossing sells. A lot. It's one of Nintendo's "evergreen" franchises, and the games tend to still sell well years after release, which means a launch-window release will still be bringing in profits years later

That certainly seems to be Aonuma's goal with Zelda U.

In terms of Nintendo's development partners,
Monster Games finished Xenoblade Chronicles 3D in late 2014/ early 2015 with development starting Fall 2013. With that kind of timeline, they could probably finish a port for the NX by mid 2017. An original title would probably be much longer given they only have 20-30 staff
Nd Cube could be producing a filler title (probably a Mario Party) if they don't have a title lined up for this fall seeing how they made Wii Party U & Mario Party: Island Tour along side each other and the case with Mario Party 10 and amiibo Festival and the fact that they have around 200 employees though given this is a filler title, it might be saved for a Nintendo Direct
The Mario Kart team is likely to have a title for Spring 2017 given the time span it would be from Mario Kart 8. Quite possibly Mario Kart 9
Intelligent Systems probably wouldn't be at E3 2016 aside from WarioWare or some other codevelopment like Brain Age: Concentration Training or Band Bros. P but, they could put out a Fire Emblem title or a big new IP in late summer/ early fall 2017.

The Animal Crossing team at best may have a title ready for Fall 2017 but I think the next Animal Crossing would early spring 2018
Splatoon 2 I feel would be their Fall 2017 game which would probably be for E3 2017.
The Nintendo side of Steel Diver is busy with Star Fox Zero. This also likely means that a F-Zero won't come internally given that the ones who would promote it internally are probably in that development group.
Next Level Games is pretty unlikely. They seem like a studio that mostly works on one game at a time now.
HAL Labs wouldn't have a full game given Boxboy 2 and Kirby Planet Robobot and Picross 3D 2. Maybe codevelopment like Face Raiders

None. The NX is so different, it doesn't even play "games" as we know them. It literally creates interactive experiences on the fly based on your thoughts, captured through a non-invasive sensor that you put in front of your TV. At least that's what I heard.

Can't believe so many people doubt about Splatoon 2 this E3.

Nintendo surely started the sequel since June 2015 after saw how freaking succes this game was.

This is not the kind of games which need 2/3 years of work... it's most likely not gonna be a launch title in 2016, but should easy release in 2017.

We'll they did it once with Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Blue/Red rescue team. Red was for GBA Blue was for DS, two completely different hardwares with one with online functionality and the other without. So who knows but for mainline games highly unlikely.

Mystery Dungeon isn't really comparable. The communication in those is much more limited.

I was thinking, if it's PS4 level, they could do something pretty cool that would give them some edge.

They should directly have their 3 big multiplayer titles upgraded on NX, Smash, MK and Splatoon. Except they are now playable on the portable (with 540p WiiU graphics) and.. 4K on home console. That's actually absolutely doable. The gap should be so huge between the portable and the home console.. Actually of they share same architecture/os, and there is no loss in the port, every game scaled for the portable should be able to play at 4K on the home console.

That way they could say "we're the only one offering 4k graphics!!" And for games like Smash Bros it would actually be a nice gamelay upgrade to.

Not confirmed but probably based on timing, Square's interest in the platform, and somewhat reliable rumours.

What rumors are these?

The only reason I don't think it's totally out of the question is that SE probably wants the game on as many platforms as possible. Same reason a PC version will probably happen even though it isn't announced yet, though I think PC is a lot more likely than NX.

It does, but only to established platforms with large install bases. It doesn't drive hardware adoption like the 3D games do.

Yeah, 3D Mario would be vastly more valuable at launch, while 2D Mario would be much better after a couple years when the install base is built.

Oh I remember the pre Gamecube days so fondly.

The teaser trailer of Wave Race, Luigis Mansion, Metroid and so on was amazing. I still remember the cool music of that trailer. Too bad Wave Race and Metroid turned out to be CG. I have watched that trailer dozens of times, in awesome letterbox size.

I really hope NX will have a trailer with the same impact.

Um, 2D Mario sells better than 3D Mario. A 2D Mario at launch would lead to insane sales.

Only if it completely separates itself from the New Super Mario Bros. series, but even then, I don't think 2D is the way to go during the first year or two. 2D Mario launched with Wii U and......yeah.

A 3D Mario game makes much more sense for a platform launch.

Hopefully it does. Watched Gamexplains video on the demo and it seems wonderful, the spell effects are just amazing.

Great points. In addition to this, there are also the Amiibo figures and cards which I know aren't just for Amiibo Crossing (of which there are a ton)

Based off of leaks and scheduled of their Studios:

Zelda
3D Mario
Pikmin 4
Smash 4 GOTY
Retro Studios project
FFXV
The Witcher III GOTY
NintendoLand 2 (something along those tech demo lines)
All the annual Ubisoft, EA, and Activision games.

This list is godly, especially if FFXV happens pleaseeeeeeeeee!

3D Mario, Zelda port, and Smash port are the only things I would be comfortable calling locks for E3.

No idea what Retro's doing, but I think we'll see it. I feel like it's not Donkey Kong because of how unjustifiably negative Tropical Freeze's reception was.

I'd like to see a console game from Next Level and something that isn't Mario Minis from NST. I think those two studios could capitalize on the serious lack of arcade sports games in the marketplace. Bring back Ice Hockey and Wave Race. If that EA Sports rumor was true, then it might be a good idea to make some first party sports games.

Nintendo keeps renewing that Eternal Darkness trademark, so I feel like something might happen with that. My crazy dream scenario is From just makes a Souls game but with sanity effects and calls it ED, but it'll probably just be some sort of rerelease or nothing.

I have no clue what third party games to expect, but I think Japanese support will be significantly more robust than Western support if there's some sort of handheld version of the NX. And I'm not sure that's something you see at E3/the initial unveiling. My expectations are low for now, especially for Western games. They already have three viable platforms, while Japanese HD games really only have one.

I suspect that they'll refrain from porting MK8 and Splatoon to NX, as they'll instead want to prioritise the inevitable MK9 and Splatoon 2. For Smash Bros, in theory if they could get it running at 1080p/60fps on Wii U they should be able to run it at 4K on much more advanced hardware, but it's not just a matter of pure computational power. Running at such high resolutions needs a lot of memory bandwidth, even if it's a relatively "simple" game like a last gen port.

Let's assume that Smash Bros was fully utilising the Wii U's 70GB/s eDRAM bandwidth to maintain a solid 60fps. You'd then be looking at a bandwidth requirement of 280GB/s to run a 4K version of the game. An on-die 128MB pool of SRAM is obviously infeasible, so they'd need either HBM or GDDR5X (even the fastest GDDR5 on a 256-bit bus wouldn't provide enough bandwidth). For reference this is more bandwidth than the GTX 980 has. Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon would presumably require even higher bandwidth to run at 4K, assuming again that they're making full use of the bandwidth available to them already to run at 720p and 60fps.

Now, if Nintendo's goal for NX was to provide Wii U+ graphics at 4K, then perhaps I can see them going with HBM, but if they're planning for most of their games to run at 1080p, it doesn't make much sense to pour money into expensive memory technology just to push out a small number of games at 4K.

Hmmm...

From Nintendo:

For Launch/Launch Window (Winter/Spring):

Zelda U/NX
Smash 4 NX
Retro Studios game -or- Tokyo EPD game
Pikmin 4
NX showcase minigames game
Super Mario Maker NX
Some smaller games...

Otherwise Announced:

Retro Studios game -or- Tokyo EPD game (Spring/Summer 2017 or Holiday 2017, respectively, would be my guesses)

Splatoon 2 and/or Mario Kart 9 to be announced at E3 2017 for Holiday 2017 release or Winter/Spring/Summer 2018. Or maybe one of these is for a 2017 direct and released Summer 2017?

From 3rd Parties:

For Launch/Launch Window (Winter/Spring):

Dragon Quest X
Dragon Quest XI
Final Fantasy XIV
Final Fantasy XV
Sonic 25th Anniversary

Otherwise Announced:

Ubisoft support, perhaps BGE 2

I have no idea what third party support will look like at E3. I'm sort of assuming a bunch of ports I don't care about but I don't care about them so I have no idea what they would be :p.

ha you're telling me basically 4k gaming is not for tomorrow, even with old gen graphics :p That's a shame..

Now for the Splatoon and MK sequel, i wouldn't be as sure as you of that. Nintendo has learned how to milk a game community now and they'll prefer to release an HD port with exclusive DLC, and even maybe a small price for existent users. That's still free money, and they don't break the community. Splatoon especially is just in the beginning of its life.
