Why are people annoyed about Kratos? He is visually iconic, but there's not that much dialogue or anything to justify being bothered by him.

i could see the tattoo/ash skin being the result of a curse or something. like this descendent finds the blades and they wrap around his arms like they did for granddad.

and i wondered about who could be Kratos' kid as well, considering what you mentioned, but then i remembered the heap of greek whores. AWKWARD

I'm in. Only played GOWIII and GOW:A, so my limits are still far from met with Kratos.

The gods weren't assholes, they became assholes towards the very end because they got infected by the box but besides Ares the gods were alright for most of the series. Zeus had every right to smack Kratos down after he became an even worse version of Ares. Kratos is the full blown villain as of GoW 2.

It's why I hated how they tried to "redeem" him in GoW 3, he's past that. But whatever they did it and that closed out his character arc. That's why I don't want him back, not cause he's angry all the time or evil, I'm fine with that, he shouldn't come back because his personal storyline finished, there isn't anything more to say about Kratos.

I just want them to have some small integrity for the character and story(I know that's asking far too much) and not contrive some dumb bullshit for why Kratos is savagely killing gods he should have no quarrel with.

I think I'm just tired of this series. I finished 1-3, they were good but I was getting tired of it during 3. I bought Ascension dirt cheap from PSN and can't even muster the desire to play it. Hopefully the changes they've made are enough to get me excited but it's going to be an uphill climb.

The news completely disappeared from N4G and isn't even found in the failed section. Many things happened for the first time and were so weird.

The story of Kratos ended as much as they want to continue it. The character has changed so much from what he initially was that the series is almost comical at this point.

Plus how does this even work? Kratos is a character in Greek mythology.

New setting / mythology every console gen is fine by me, unlike the AC games which people seem to grow tired over rather sooner than later in comparison.

It makes no sense to keep Kratos if the game is based on a new mythology. Why?

The game is called God of War because Kratos takes away the power to Ares, the god of war, which is the name of the game. And based on this the game story happens in different locations and you fights enemies based on Greek mythology.
If they make a new game based on other mythologies, such as the Nordic, Kratos has nothing to do there, it would be illogical, there must be another protagonist with other motivations, illogical would also be that the game is called God of War. Ares is not in these mythologies. Unless they take the god of war of the new one, but imo it would be a mistake repeating the same story in other places, as happens with the Ass Creed sagas.

I'm still fine with Kratos being the protagonist, GOW is a game that lets you calm down by letting out all your rage in a video game. Kratos is a personification of not only rage and anger, but your personal rage as a player.

I'd say he enhances it quite a bit. It's a series that revolves around death and destruction, and he's more or less the embodiment of that. In some sense he's like Trevor from GTAV but turned up a notch.

Honestly, i'd be curious to know how many people that have an issue with Kratos also have an issue with Drake. The knock against Drake is that he's portrayed as a nice wise cracking guy while killing a lot of people, but Kratos is portrayed as a straight up asshole. He kinda seems like the perfect answer to the criticism to Drake as they don't try to make you like him or even have him cracking jokes. He's just pissed and is trying to punish everyone in front of him.

It's a piece of fiction, they can combine mythologies. And norse mythology is probably the easiest to do/explain since it involves multiple realms and they could explain away the absence of these Norse figures by saying they just weren't interested in the Earth realm for whatever reason.

I'll admit that I didn't think the images were legit at first (in the previous topic). I believed shinobi's tweet, but the stuff nerdleaks posted was met with a big dose of skepticism, especially the way they were teasing the announcement/post and the way their tweets were written. Honestly felt amateurish.

Mario is timeless. Kratos screams 90's. He just came out too late

I don't think it is "fake", but it is far from confirmed. It was an intern artist a couple years ago right? He could be just doing some ideas for a concept they once had or a cancelled project. Seems premature to assume this is what it is from one intern/freelance dude.

I've played them all except Ascension, which I will probably play sometime, and I can't wait to see that game with a new mythology!
Glad they made that choice, Norse is awesome!

That's why I included the Polygon quote and updated the title, since I'm taking that to mean it's still the general direction they're heading in if multiple people came out to confirm this to Polygon.

Any word on Nerdleaks and what actually happened? How did their website PLUS Twitter account get shut down like this? Sony really went all in for this one, it seems. Also, the guy who posted the news story on N4G isn't anywhere to be seen too, correct?
