NX will launch in March 2017 globally, won't be at E3 (focusing on Zelda instead)

The weirdest part of this is that they've confirmed Zelda for NX, but are still just showing the Wii U version at E3. That's gonna be a giant fucking elephant right there during treehouse etc

Ask me about the GAF Notebook
Why does the NX NEED Zelda if all of Nintendo's internal teams have already bailed and are working on NX games.

Shouldn't that mean Nintendo should have a fuck ton of stuff ready for launch?

More like your taste is trash if Monster Hunter Generations, SMT 4-2, Tokyo Mirage Sessions and Rhythm Tengoku look like "shovelware" to you.

You listed one Wii U game.
Also since we're doing this, I live in Australia, so I get EU localizations. SMT 4-2 is sure to come out this year right?

Is it crazy of me to think a March 2017 release date isn't terrible? They have a new account system, I really hope they're getting out of the dark ages with their network and Emily Rogers saying to expect greater software output...what if launching in March gives Nintendo time to ensure their network is stable, stagger the release of the console and handheld (assuming that's all true as well) and build a small software library in time for holiday 2017.

What the fuck am I thinking, Nintendo is doomed

It's not bad at all to release NX in March, in a vacuum. The problem is that there's nothing between now (Star Fox & Pokken) and NX launch except for an offshoot Paper Mario game. And this is after a full year of nothing between Splatoon and Star Fox/Pokken except for Mario Maker, Yoshi, and Xenoblade X.

I wonder if the PS Neo and Xbox 1.5 shook them up and caused them to push back further to up NX power?

In any case, not launching until March 2017 is a long time to be largely irrelevant as there's next to nothing coming for Wii U or 3DS between now and then. Pokemon and Monster Hunter on the 3DS I guess, but those aren't selling hardware as fans of those series already bought 3DSs for those franchises.

BREAKING NEWS from CNN:

They are going to ruin the messaging of their console launch before it is even properly announced.

Okay techGAF, since 14nm is now on the table, what is the most powerful chipset Nintendo could fit in the handheld while maintaining battery life around the level of the 3DS or N3DS?

I find it hard to believe Nintendo are just going to have 3-4 days of non-stop Zelda.

No fucking way, you are going to over-saturate people and give away way too much of the game if that's the case.

Does it really matter, all this kerfuffle? I mean if they get the console and the games right, isn't that what matters really in the end?

I haven't really liked a Nintendo console since the Gamecube just cause of how they tried to be weird about the controllers and systems, but if they can pull out a hit, it makes all of the delays and speculation and concern pretty meaningless in the end.

Let's hope they can pull out something good

Not for handhelds.

I wonder if they follow all gameforums

If so, they know that everyone is expecting nx already for a long time, so why have they waited so long to tell us that we didn't get any info at E3.

All these commets as to "it's not succeeding the 3DS/WiiU" and the "new concept" makes me think that there not going for a traditional console but something more like the Wii. Whether that's expensive or not remains to be seen.

Yeah, obviously. They're still chasing lightning in a bottle.

I am sure glad that the WiiU is my secondary console (PC primary) as the gap between quality titles is far too large for my liking. 5.5 years between Zelda console titles is a bit of a joke considering it is one of their flagship titles. Matter of fact, where is Super Mario 3D World 2?

"Um, so what would I press to do this on the NX version?"

"Is this in the NX version?"

"Any other differences we should know about?"

Hoping somebody who knows slips up a bit.. But most likely, no one will have a clue what the NX version is or does.

If they aren't going to show anything about the NX at E3, it either has some amazingly new concept that they don't want competitors to steal, or there is real risk it will be delayed again from March

It's ok. Nintendo fans will still claim Treehouse and Ninty are the best things ever and won E3~ /s

Seriously though, this reeks of Nintendo getting a bit shook by Sony and PS4 Neo. I mean really though, do you really want to launch a new system next to a system upgrade launch and the launch of their VR solution? Going back to March gives them time to breathe and get their launch lineup in order. I do think a holiday unveiling is a terrible idea though.

Gaf: NX Zelda? At this time of year? At this time of day? In this part of the country? Localized entirely within your company?

Nintendo : Yes.

Gaf: May we see it?

Nintendo: No.

Does the Nikkei article actually state "by the end of the year" or "later this year"? The former is more disappointing/negative than the latter imo.

They're not even showing the system at E3. They have nothing ready to show 9 months before launch.

NX launch is going to be barren.

That's basically my stance. This is very weird and it's hard to be in the dark for so long, but it's all moot once the games and hardware launch. Life goes on.
That doesn't mean we shouldn't discuss it though.

All of those games are already out in Japan.

Which is literally irrelevant unless you so happen to be able to read Japanese.

99.5% of the people on this forum and Nintendo's audience in the west in general can't read japanese.

This line of thought is just dumb tbh. Of course late localizations are part of a systems line up.
And they don't turn to "shovelware" (which doesn't mean "game I'm not interested in for some dumb reason")

So my decision on whether to get an NX or PSVR was just made for me lol.

Well at least Pokemon's still coming. Which is something at E3 to look forward to as well

My guess is something happened. The current date is way too odd or we're just not thinking outside the box on what the NX is. I don't even know. I'm certainly curious about the form factor and price with that release date though.

And just where is that holiday unveiling stuff coming from? The only thing that is known, is that there probably will be a standalone event for NX, nothing about when this is.
