I bet they got a few in the back pocket that are being developed to stagger and send out during its less popular months.
There's at least one more with Soldier 76 coming. They'll probably put out a lot more if the game gets as popular as it's predicted to be. Good marketing is good marketing.

I hope Blizzard can do an animated feature sometime in the future, their cinematics are superb and I always wanted something in the Warcraft universe to run about an hour and a half. But that isn't happening, so I'll gladly take something in overwatch

I don't understand people acting like it's the worst writing ever. It's perfectly acceptable writing. It's not setting out to do anything crazy or deep, it's just a simple story that's playing with lots of tropes in a flashy and fun way. Bring more of this on.

Yeah, but I've wanted it in their cinematics style over live action+CGI. I'm still going to see Warcraft, either in theatre or on Blu-ray. But I hope any Overwatch films will be in the style of these shorts

There's no real continuity between the shorts but you can just go to the youtube page and look by date.

I mean one can argue that the Overwatch cinematic comes first then Alive is the sequel in terms of where on the timeline it is.
Edit: I need a screencap of Genji standing on the roof at the end before he ninja-vanishes. Scene is beautiful.

But I wouldn't argue this as particularly excellent in Cartoon Writing either, it's just confused about its presentation. A bit of a Shame since Genji is part of one of my favorite Tropes and dearly want a scene with Zenyatta.
But what exactly is Cartoon Writing because that term to me includes stuff like Gravity Falls and Kid Icarus Uprising which are brilliant.

These are so damn good, holy shit, I hope they eventually do one for every character.
These make me want to rewatch the glorious TF2 shorts more than anything. This one was fair though, while ridiculously tropey it was a decent little story. I enjoyed it unlike the Widowmaker and Winston shorts which were little more than a vehicle to show off every ingame ability without any kind of narrative flourish. No matter how hard they try modern Blizzard's writing is just so one-note and shallow. When you're imitating classics like Meet the Medic you better deliver.

I don't think Blizzard is attempting to imitate Valve's TF2 shorts beyond introducing characters to a wider audience.

They're obviously not replicating the shorts themselves, but OW's marketing scheme of producing character-centered films in order to flesh out the lore of a gameplay-focused MP FPS all but forces the comparisons with TF2.
they are trying to follow the tf2 playbook exactly with this game, shorts included
they have no hope of matching it tho

These videos are rad but there's a weird disconnect between the content in these shorts and the fact that the game is a team based shooter.
TF2's video series managed to get around this disconnect probably because their videos felt like they existed way more in line with what goes on in the game itself.

It's pretty much the League of Legends formula. The CG shorts and overall story have nothing to do with the actual gameplay.
