I still use composite on my original Pal Nes, but as a result, i play all my Nes-games on the rgb-modded Famicom lol.

Can't bring myself to mod/open up my childhood N64 so I'm currently in camp S-Video and loving it! Shit is better than the normal composite AV cables. Hell, anything is better than that! Except maybe RF but still..

Perhaps one day I'll pick up a NTSC console and get it modded but I'm in no major rush. Just picked up a Mega Drive 2 and CD so repairing/refurbishing that is on my priority list at the moment.

Anyone tried these pads? I can't find any reviews or opinions of them anywhere online

Hori Commander N64

I just bought it for a fiver on eBay. It's hori and officially licenced, so it should be good right?

The button placement on the right looks to be shifted a bit in order to account for the higher grip. It should be good to use.

Svideo is good...screw composite though. I ban composite from my recordings even!

Composite is the reason I haven't touched a model 1 Genesis I picked up last year. NES is the only console I'll accept it on due to it being limited without modding and when paired with a comb/trap filter it's bearable thanke to the overall simpler pallette and graphics. Hard to believe RF and composite were how many of us played these systems for so many years as kids.

S-video looks great thankfully although I want to get a converter for scart to component some time in the future. Thanks to this thread I played through Star Fox 64 again and finally popped SNES SF in which I hadn't bothered to play since I picked it up months ago. That ultimately pushed me to but Zero today, time to see if the controls or as wonky as some have made them out to be.

Just got a near mint CIB OOT collectors edition for super cheap

What a time to be alive

Is the only differnce between collector and normal the gold cart? I had always assumed the gold cart was just part of the first few prints of the game, not part of a collector's edition. Never knew I had one, my brother originally bought it when it came out.

The "normal" version initially was the gold cart. Reprints later were the standard grey cartridge.

Gold cart and (I think) you can be sure that it is the first version of the game, with the red blood/fire temple chanting/mirror shield art all in it's original form. There is also normal grey carts that have all that but don't think you can tell just from looks if you got one.

I think there's 3 versions of OOT? Collectors gold, regular gold and then grey.

Collectors gold has certain glitches that aren't in the later revisions. And of course the original chant fire temple music.

Thoughts on Rocket Robot on wheels? Just bought a complete copy in excellent shape. I see reviews on YouTube are good but always like to hear gaf's opinion.

I see, didn't realize there were some small changes in content between them. I'll check out that link as well Kadin, thanks,

EDIT: Just ckecked my cart and it's 1.0, neat.

1.1 cart for my copy, which was bought when it launched. I was pretty sure I had an early version, as I definitely remember Ganandorf having red blood.

I've only played with my Everdrive 64v3 a bit, but it's quite solid, yeah. Same with my Mega Everdrive.

Still need to play with my Everdrive-N8 and Everdrive GB, tho...

Yeah, I have the same two as well :) Both great, but I'm more partial to the Mega Everdrive in terms of the pure quantity (you also get full Master System compatibility!).

Full 32X compatibility, too, though it requires a 32X (unlike the Master System compatibility, which doesn't require any additional hardware since it's all built into the Genesis itself - though the 32X doesn't have the pins required for Master System compatibility to work, which is the only thing preventing me from buying a 32X for the helluvit).

Apart from the somewhat average graphics, it's a really good 3d platformer with good controls, gameplay, and levels. The physics engine is the core of the game, really, and it makes for a unique experience. Very good game!

Great choice!
It's up there with Mario 64, Banjo Kazooie and Rayman 2 as the best 3D platformer of that generation.

Be aware that camera system sucks.
However the mix between platforming and puzzle game gives its own identity to the game which wasn't really matched afterwards by other games.
There is a good variety in the level design, also graphics and music are nice.

it really is fun exploring the library further, and ive not even scratched the surface with DD conversions, AA tweaks etc
Oh I'm definitely doing the AA teaks, in fact it'll be one of the 1st/earliest things I'll do. I should be ordering it next week.

I may even do a youtube video on the AA tweaks!!!

Thanks guys! Youtube reviews seemed good and it's one I've had my eye on and wanted to get. Good to know Gaf likes it.

Interesting tidbit from the comments of a HN submission about controller deadzones and tuning.

Another trick, which can be used in some games such as Doom 64, is to reset the neutral position such that down is neutral, so up is 2x speed.

webkike said:
You can do this with a lot of gamecube games because the system would set to default what ever values the system was receiving at bootup; turned out to be a great way to avoid costs by having different manufactures make the controllers

I just picked this game up on a whim a couple days ago, and was about to jump in this thread and mention how much it pleasantly surprised me. Nice to see it was brought up recently.

enjoy, m'man! eagerly awaiting your impressions on the AA patching, i grabbed the pack but have been too lazy to patch em & find room for them, haha
Lol. I'll be testing it on like 5-10 games at 1st and maybe more. Then I'll upload that to youtube.
