Fitness |OT9|...You looked better before

200 lbs at 5-6 body fat would be approaching Ulisses Jr. stats.
So you agree with that other guy that's impossible without steroids?

Jr is 5'10"

Tell that to someone my height or taller. We would look nothing like him at that weight and BF% - nothing like him. I think you're underestimating how height plays a factor in aesthetics. 200lbs competition ready for someone 6'1" as an average is doable, not suspect to gear. Also don't assume I think it's easy XD

Also let's not forget that the average Joe doesn't understand how long some of these people have been training for. There's a zillion ways to break it apart and none of them lead to a definitive statement like that guy made. You don't just throw an arbitrary weight number out and call it "steroid use starts here" - which is why I poked fun of it like we usually do in this thread with stupid OT comments.

On business travel for a month or so to Denver soon. Anybody here have any recommendations for things to do (weekdays only)?

Hey FitGAF, want to share my current 1RMs:
- Squat (low bar, belted): 300lbs
- Deadlift (alternate hook grip): 315lbs
- Pause Flat Bench Press: 225lbs
- Barbell Shoulder Press: 135lbs

Current weight: 200-ish...?

I'm pretty happy about this considering:
- Been only lifting for the past three months
- Last time trying to lift was back in early July of last year then stopped to train for two marathons (Chicago last October and LA last February)
- I only lift twice a week (I also do short runs 2-3 times a week, a very slow & easy long run with my running club on Saturdays, and casually road bike on Sundays)

I'm gonna see how much more I can lift for the next 3-4 weeks, where by then I'll hang the weight belt and put away the squat shoes to train for Chicago and LA again.

That said, all this lifting has really affected my running due to all TEH GAINZ...but I expected it to happen so it's all good. I'm gonna have to make some changes to my diet to get into a more endurance-like physiology for fall and next spring.
Wish me luck cuz I like eating lol

I know I don't have to worry about this for quiiiite a while, but how does one figure out their 1RMs, and how do you work that into your typical workout schedule?

There are methods to extrapolate your 5RM / 3RM into a 1RM but the most accurate way is to just do it (with a spotter). As to how to work it into your schedule, what program are you doing?

Ah, I had no idea those things existed. Will be a nice way to guess here in a few months. Currently on week 7 of SL5x5, so 3 times a week is my current schedule.

Thank you for humoring me. My brain is wondering, slow day at work.

Put 5 in the drop down and enter the weight you do with 5 reps. It's not 100% accurate but it gives you a general idea of what you should be able to do with your 1RM

Think i'm going to start incorporating a belt for my compounds starting next week. My only real issue is that area is usually where I place my infusion site. I have seen some peeps place their infusion sets into their chest/pec area. Don't really want to do thigh or back of arm as I think that would get in the way of too many things, plus I am using a 23" tube so that's not a whole lot of wiggle room for those spots.

Will see how it goes on leg day sunday, will try the lower chest.

Ha, that's pretty accurate.
The other day I could put up 115lbs on my flat bench 5 times, but failed at 135. It said my 1RM was 132.

Yeah, I think it's pretty accurate for my results but I'm sure it doesn't work for everyone.

Also, it seems like it degrades big time when you go above 5RM.

If it comes to binging, drink a ton of water before eating... then eat. Odds on you still feeling like eating more after you've finished your meal will be significantly reduced.

Any tips to suppress hunger? I just can't stop eating. Ate like 1400 calories in the space of 2 hours.

Lift weights, drink coffee, eat more fat and less carbohydrate.

I recently cut out sweets, going on two months without. Protein and fat does an excellent job in curbing my cravings for apple fritters and Dairy Queen blizzards. Hard boiled eggs are great at stunting my hunger and making me feel full.

Was just reading this, and fair play, not only has she achieved an amazing transformation, but the surgeons did an incredible job with her loose skin.

Holy shit. What an enormous change. Super awesome for her.

Same goes for Beta Alinine, if you take that, too. Saturation, no acute effects (other than BEEEEEEEEEES!)

I'm unfamiliar with that. What does it do?

Already lifting. Caffeine suppresses appetite eh? Guess I'll give that a shot starting from tomorrow.

The chief issue I have with high fat foods are that they are so dense in calories yet they simply don't satiate me.

You know you done fucked up when you struggle to eat an extra meal at night and your daily caloric intake is still somewhere around 2300.

Working from home today as I was up late in the ER last night (100% all good now), cooking a mountain of brown rice, eyeing potatoes. FML.

That's not so bad, wish I'd hit that today but probably gonna be at 1600-2000 if lucky. I fucked up today and only ate a chimichanga and a banana before I took an adderall so my caloric intake right now is about 500ish... gonna bump it up with a shake but it's really hard to eat with a stimulant suppressing your appetite completely and low amount of food in your system = stronger effects. Probably just gonna skip the gym since I have to drive to LA in a couple hours. Blah.

30mg should've been 15mg on a day like this. :/ However I highly recommend Adderall for those that need it for work/school, and the effects and focus in the gym are truly awesome.

Oh you were serious. That uhh..sounds terrible.
Paresthesia is what it's called. Harmless. Most people take about 4g daily in smaller doses. People usually start feeling paresthesia around 1.5g - I've taken 6g at once a few times. My daily is 4. You get used to the feeling but that 6 had me like :O

The tingling feeling is sooo awesome. I feel it everywhere in my body, including my brain. Gets me amped for lifting.
I know right :D

My face, neck, ears and the backs of my hands get all tingly.

Make tasty popsicles with it :D I keep a stash I make at work in the freezer so I can rock one on the way home :)

Are the high-fat foods you're talking about just high in fat and protein? Or are they also high in carbohydrate? High fat *and* carbohydrate with the appropriate amount of salt and "mouth feel" is pretty much the recipe for an addictive food that screws with your satiety.

Also, when it comes to coffee, it's less the caffeine and more of the cholinomimetics found in coffee that suppress the appetite, so replacing it with a caffeine pill or tea won't have the same effect. Conversely, even decaf coffee should work.

Goddamn.

Dinner was fantastic. Half a chicken, over cheese grits and a fried egg, with a side of pickled asparagus. Appetizer of goat cheese gnocchi. Dessert consisting of 4 scoops of coffee ice cream topped with brownies, chocolate covered espresso beans, whipped cream and a shot of cold espresso.

Oh and a side of chocolate covered bacon.

I. Am. Stuffed!

Definitely making these calories count the next few days. I expect some good lift sessions.

Thanks for the anniversary wishes fit bros :)

Bacon would make things...interesting.

OT, but how are you liking your Apple Watch Sean? Do you use it for tracking lifts at all?

I don't actually. I found it meh for lifting. My wife loves hers for running. I primarily use mine to parse out important texts from nonsense ones. I'll sometimes get 20+ texts from my therapists or clients in a couple hours and can't keep taking out my phone.

That chicken dish looks insanely delicious.

How necessary is it to maintain the same amount of protein intake on days off? I read how your body is primed to absorb protein after workouts, but I don't know how critical that is. I'd prefer to save the money and be able to skip using my protein supplements on my days off, but would it be better that I keep it consistent even on days off?

Hello everyone,

Age: 29
Height: 5 ft 6
Weight: 143 lbs

My diet and lifestyle has remained the same but I've put on a noticeable amount of stomach fat over the last 10 months. What gives? Well, I have been drinking more coffee.

I generally skip breakfast and eat a hot meal in the afternoon (although it is heavy in carbs I should add). I drink a few soft drinks over the course of the week and might have a few take outs. Overall, I don't think I go over 2000 calories a day in terms of my intake. However, my Fitbit estimates that I burn on average more than 2000 calories a day just from the amount of walking I do. I'm not really sure where the fat is coming from.

I'm determined to change my physique. The biggest barrier right now will be time in terms of preparing good meals.

Do I join a gym or buy into a programme such as P90x?
