The new Mega Man cartoon sounds dumb and bad

That...doesn't sound nearly as bad as GAF is making it out to be, but then again, this is the Mega Man fandom.

I'll wait until we see a trailer before hitting the panic button.

In the same boat honestly. Will stop commenting on the show as people without seeing anything (but the design of Mega Man and some plot details) are assuming the worse, but hope it turns out well.

(cant find the whole article... i believe it was in Wizard #80, but apparently this was in production with Nickelodeon and Paramount with writing by Jeph Loeb and character design by Joe Madureira)

Obviously a Mega Man/Astro Boy ripoff... but i would have loved to seen it!

Adults said that about the dumb shit you like.

Kids might enjoy different things than you.

And to be fair, a lot of the stuff I watched when I was little was trash. A lot of unchallenging garbage made to soak up the airwaves. Sure I loved Captain N as a kid, that doesn't mean it wasn't terrible.

Kids deserve better. It being for kids shouldn't automatically equate something into being awful. It's really tough to just be complaisant about all this now that we're in a time period that may actually have the best cartoons ever (Cartoon Network's line up continues to be absolutely fierce, mostly by having lineups that ignore aged demographics and cater to all ages).

That works for that

Sonic isnt stephen universe and 30 minutes
Plus sega fixing the game end of this i think would work tremendously.

Holding every cartoon to one standard seems... Backwards as hell.

To be fair, Sonic Boom is barely sonic either. Most episodes aren't actually about anything. People are chasing that Adventure Time format super hard with varying results. SB being 30 minutes wouldn't change much if the plots were still random and completely without structure.

Sorry but I think this is a lot better the nothing. The show will put Mega Man back into the minds of kids, which is probably Capcoms plan so they can introduce more New games.

You'd think that's what Smash Bros did, considering it brought Earthbound and Fire Emblem to a new gen / refreshed minds.

If you actually try to sell and televise something with artwork of that quality, you should probably be sued or something. No, being for kids is absolutely no excuse for drawing that awful garbage.

Shame, this is the worst design for anything officially Mega Man by far, it's a shame it will be relegated to kids trash TV instead of at least attempting to be good.

the hell is going on in animation first action scenes in dragonball super now megaman when did design and art style become grade school. I think ive seen better stuff on newgrounds back in the day lmao

Sounds like it's going to be another mediocre "Westernized" adaptation. The design looks like something you'd see from one of those Pakistani McDonald's toy commercials; and I'm not impressed they're pigeonholing the series into the generic "high school AU" scenario (OK, it's not exactly that scenario per se, but that definitely sounds like that's the approach they are going with) rather than something closer in tone / narrative to the series. Then again, this is MoA, who has done the Ben 10 sequel series (which are of...varying reception and quality, to say the least), so I guess I can't say I'm too surprised (to put it lightly, I think their days of decent shows Ben 10 and Generator Rex are well behind them).

Also, relevant:

Maybe thats ok.

Maybe everything doesnt adventure time. Is it ok to ask more of our programming? God yes. But not going to say about every cartoon. I say it about boom to be honest? I see a potential there game side and shoelw side I think they could reach.

But if the megaman cartoon looks basic...maybe thats fine. We as adults engage with aspects with our lives we dub "trashy" why not give our children a degree of choice in the matter.

Like dbz, dbz isnt Shakespeare. Its litterally anime wrestling. But that reason is the reason its one of the most popular anime on the planet. There is a simplicity in simplicity.

Not everyone is being robbed in culture maybe they just wanna see fun shit happen sometimes.

Not being challenging doesnt make something terrible. Two of my favorite cartoons ever are hey arnold and the other kinikkuman. One showed me deep stuff, the other is litteral space wresteling.

While yes judgement on quality shouldnt go away, the idea of something not being challenging being bad is something I resent.

Looks like cheap flash animation too. Also when was the last time Man of Action made anything good? Their Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon sucked so hard that they got kicked out and replace by new writers.

I don't know, the Sonic Boom cartoon looked like shit and there are a lot of folks on here who swear by it.

Agreed, I even like Teen Titans GO but really dislike Powerpuff Girls.

Dunno about the new Powerpuff Girls series, but there's some interesting discussion there.

The original Powerpuff Girls wasn't originally meant to be a kid's show or a girl's show. It was meant to be an action/comedy series aimed at college students. Look at the pilot, where they were called the Whoopass Girls, and Chemical X was a can of whoopass. Even in the final show, it was full of people getting their teeth knocked out, double entendres, references to pop culture from as far back as the sixties. There's an episode that's pretty much a biography of The Beatles.

However, the people marketing the show seemed to have no idea about this, and so all the merchandising treated it as if it was a normal cute girl's show. It had a shift in that direction in the last few seasons (might have been just one season, it's been a while) when the series creator Craig McCracken left.

In the vein of the original Powerpuff Girls, I feel like there's no reason why Mega Man can't succeed as a kids' show while being primarily built for an older audience, especially considering that it's mostly an action show. Although I don't have any data on kids' shows.

At it's core, the Mega Man series is based on a mix of Japanese tokusatsu shows, such as Power Rangers and Kamen Rider, as well as old-school shows such as Cashern.

That doesn't sound right to me. I think it's more:

Mega Man = Astro Boy
Protoman = Hakkaider (from Kikaider)
Mega Man X = Casshern
Mega Man Legends = Yatterman

Don't forget Protoman could be called a Char clone. Blonde, long-lost brother, plays both sides, etc.

It looks fine, maybe not the greatest but the Sonic Boom cartoon is pretty funny. Maybe this could do the same?

Anyways, can't really argue with trying to hit with kids, it's a good market to go after.

Nah, this is soul crushing and garbage, especially going by what the studio has been able to do before. It's not even the design specifically (which isn't great), it's the cheap arts type they are using. Maybe it's not finalized, but this doesn't look good.

I see Gaffers have made up their mind over a fairly tame design and a show specifically aimed for kids.

I mean, this is almost the Mega Man universe design.

Counterpoint: Megaman universe's schtick was that you would be able to customize the character in many ways with many incarnations of megaman and other characters, hell, classic megaman is even in that very picture you posted, so nobody minded the shitty OC universe megaman.

mega-man-and-mega-mini-reveal-exclusive-to-ignjpg-6dab38.jpg

IGN has posted a picture of Mega Mini.

The article does not seem to have any new information besides the picture.

This makes it look like Mega mini is more like a tiny drone megaman can use to infiltrate small spaces rather than a separate character, this could lead to some ant-man styled shenanigans!

Oh no.

Oh yes.

I love this. It looks so bad. I love how bad it looks. This is hilarious.

I recently read the megaman comic and holy hell it was good. I feel that story would be perfect for TV good for kids and OG fans.

Sadly American cartoons are too busy trying to emulate adventure time rather than making stuff with plot. ( not bashing AT just think there should be more variety)
