Ready at Dawn unveils Deformers (PC/PS4/XB1, online/local MP, GameStop) [Previews]

So... Rock of Ages/Super Monkey Ball mixed with Smash Bros? I can get behind this.

That small amount of gameplay looks more fun than the entirety of The Order 1886.

There is depending on the opinion of each individual, in my case I think its unfortunate, its ok to have a different opinion, relax.

There aren't many studios standing that can make games of that technical quality, they had a chance and blew it when it counted the most, as previously stated, unfortunate.

i would kind of understand your stance if this was the only game they were working on... but this is a small team, small project... atleast wait until they reveal their AAA project before assuming they arent using their technical prowess.

i just cant see how a fun looking game being made alongside their other projects is unfortunate. I would say that after the commercial and critical failure of 1886, that they're very fortunate to be able to work on three projects simultaneously

Couldn't even make it thru the first page with comments like this, what the fuck is wrong with you guys? Bet you're the kind of people who think Naughty Dog is "above" making anothe Crash Bandicoot.

This attitude is what's wrong with Gaming.

Naughty dog is above crash bandicoot

Looks... Interesting. I think if everything went to plan they would have followed ND's footsteps, you could tell in interviews that RAD looked up to them. Just took the cinematic approach a little too far. Anyway love oddball games but this is not doing it for me, may need to see more.

Keep in mind this is being published by GameStop. There not cheap but If Song of the Deep is anything to go by there working on a strict budget. I'm surprised people were expecting some big budget story based game.

Not interested in this type of game from them. I want to see an evolution of the Order, where they've learned from their mistakes and are still in the AAA space.

I'm more interested in seeing what they do with the other projects they're working on. I guess this may look like fun for their target audience though.

"Gameplay". Wtf does that even mean? Another buzzword with no weight behind it. I also didn't care for how often control was taken away from me in The Order, but drive by shitting doesn't help anything.

Hey! :) My name is Andrea Pessino, I am the director on Deformers. I am NOT here to change the tone of the conversation or convert the skeptics, but I just wanted to contribute a couple extra bits of information. I hope it's OK.

We will support cross play everywhere they lets us. Up to 4 player split screen, 8 players total per match, with heterogeneous teams and the ability to mix couch and online players as desired. 60FPS on all platforms (except using splitscreen on some platforms). Dedicated servers all around. We are building some very unique features to encourage competitive play – a lot more will be announced later.

As for the game itself, it is really hard to communicate what the experience is like in a video (much less a screenshot). It plays and feels like its own thing. Now this is not by itself a guarantee of quality, of course, but honestly we spend insane amounts of time playing it and it’s so much fun we can’t stop even when we are just debugging it. ;) A lot of the novelty comes from the fact that the game is completely physics based – the way the characters interact with the platforms and with each other feels very tactile and immediate (a main reason why we wanted the combat to rely heavily on melee). Smashing, blasting, grabbing, stomping, parrying, etc. everything feels very connected.

We have been iterating on the core gameplay for well over a year, trying to refine the pillars of the combat: fast and frantic, easy to pickup but very layered, centered on skill, social and competitive. Everyone we have shown the game to so far has had a really fun time with it – so we are hopeful we are on the right track. :)

On a personal note: this game has been a wonderful, emotional experience for me. The original concept for it is something I have been dreaming of making for over 25 years, that’s a part of it for sure. But by FAR the biggest factor has been the spirit and determination of the team that has built itself around it – they have turned it into the most rewarding project I’ve ever worked on, personally and professionally. It’s like a crazy club of shit talking gamers spending insane amounts of time together, arguing and polishing and experimenting and playing, playing, playing... We have a so much fun coming up with the crazy and goofy stuff, looking for the most gameplay possible and just spending time together on a small project we really believe in.

Now, I really hope the game will resonate with players looking for something different , but however it comes out at the end don’t feel sorry for us since we are having a fucking blast working hard on it. :)

Sorry, but that looks like a lot of fun. PvZ and Splatoon have rekindled a desire to play some colorful, lighthearted MP games with friends, so I'm definitely interested in what RAD are bringing to the table.

Itacud, if you are liberty to answer, are you guys looking for a couple players on a local machine to be able to queue up in a match together? Also, how is local handled, split-screen? I'm sorry if any of this has been answered already, I couldn't find it from my skimming. If you can't answer, don't worry about it. Good luck with the game.

The tone is incredibly reassuring. I look forward to the AAA project if attention to gameplay carries over from this neat lil game.

My first reaction was like wtf... Seriously expected something AAA, after their experience with The Order and the great engine.

Or are they working on something else beside that title? Could be fun though, just expected something else.

It looks really fun and I'm interested in it.

Hope it tunes out good, could be as fun as Rocket League.

Hopefully there will be an beta for this, would love to try this with my friends.

A colourful physics based 4 vs 4 xplay game?

Definitely a good basis for a game.

I'm down for this. I hope matches are between 3-15 minutes long. I'm getting Splatoon, Katamari, and Rocket League vibes from this teaser. I'm all for variety, especially since they still have two more projects on their plate. A developer shouldn't have to be pigeonholed into tossing out the same type of game over and over—not that there's anything wrong with that. I'll certainly enjoy it all the same.

Good luck Andrea! Curious to see how this game will turn out when it releases

personally I wanted an Order sequal where they took all the criticism and advice to heart and made it into a superb game. The setting is/was too good to pass up IMO

Up to 4 local players on a machine using splitscreen, playing against/with each other locally or with others online, in any combination.

Indeed, matches range from 1 to 15 min., in various combinations of rounds and lengths, and with several different game modes (we only showed Deathmatch to the press this time - more will follow).

And thanks everyone for the encouragement!

Sounds awesome, you mentioned parrying?

Then you need to direct your hopes towards Sony, as that IP belongs to them. I agree with you though that the setting is pretty awesome.
