COMICS! |OT| June 2016. The Manhattan Project

We are Robin is pretty great. He wasn't in the regular Batman run all that much though he showed up in some of the bat family books because of Robin War.

So where do Robin War and Batman & Robin Eternal and We Are Robin fit into the reading order? I am about to wrap up Tomasi's Batman And Robin, so am just trying to figure out what to read next.

Are there any podcasts that talk about comics? Not news, but like talking about characters or items or worlds in Marvel/DC/etc,, breaking down arcs. "This episode, we're talking about Mjolnir", that kind of stuff. At a level that a newbie could follow

auctions almost over:

Walking Dead: 33 views
The Ultimates Ewing: 19 views
Patsy Walker Hellcat: 1 view, mine when i looked at the auction page.

Marvel should cancel books based on if i can sell them on ebay or not.

Detective Comics was a good introductory issue. Easy enough to follow and the team dynamic seems good.

Yeah, I was not expecting to dig the team so much. I'm not a big fan of Tim, never been a fan of Spoiler and for some reason sticking Clayface on a Batman team weirded me out even more than Galactus on an Avengers team. But it just seems like it's going to work great. The character intros were great and the team is really interesting.

Is Harper not in any bat books in Rebirth? I read Tec and it was really good but I thought she should have been there. Shame if she gets dropped to cameos from now on I really grew to like her.

I'd only read B&R Eternal if you are a big fan of Cassandra Cane and Harper Row and want to know more about them. Besides that I thought it was pretty terrible, but some here seemed to like it because it was better than Batman Eternal. It's kind of unclear where this actually happens so it probably doesn't matter much.

Robin War is also kind of it's stand alone thing only because what it sets up doesn't seem to really get addressed anywhere except maybe future Nightwing stories? I think We Are Robin is the only thing really effected by it and I think it was around issue 6 or so?

It bugged me that Snyder's Batman had this whole new status quo among the supporting cast in Endgame that wasn't really explained or introduced, but not enough to read a year's worth of weekly Batman Eternal issues. I've never really gone for DC's attempts at weekly books.

For X-Men stuff, Jay & Miles X-Plain The X-Men is really good, though they do branch out into other stuff sometimes.

Also Comicstorian on YouTube.

Pretty sure she said that she was quitting to go to college.

You're better off. B&R Eternal made me angry and I gladly hate read it to it's dumbass conclusion. Which kind of sucks because if Snyder actually wrote it and it wasn't pushed into a long ass weekly book I think there was a good concept there but different writers every week and being stretched just brought up a lot of dumb shit that just got ignored or written in reverse the very next week.

This is the only page that seems to have pretty good art.
AQJ63cd.jpg

The rest seems really boring and generic, whoever did the art for 0 is ten times the artist Finch is.

[edit]

Maybe I'm being a bit too hard on it, it's not that it's necessarily bad but it's not something that sticks out to me, it's kinda just there. The art for the 0 issue, on the other hand, REALLY stuck out to me as being great and some panels were very creative.

The good news is that Mikel Janin (who did the art for Batman: Rebirth 1) is doing the other half of the art duties with the bimonthly release schedule).

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8...Christ. Like, I knew the whole "they're fucking" scene was coming, but christ...what ams these things? Although, the Kitty Pryde reference was pretty godlike.

Have their been any great fantasy esc books from publishers like Vertigo or Image lately that are worth checking out? Something akin to maybe Game of Thrones setting? As in the fantasy time period, not the same type of story necissarily. I don't want GoT the book, just can't think of a better way to describe what I'm looking for other than fantasy/medieval.

Also what are the recommended trades/arcs for Hellblazer for someone that hasn't read anything pre New 52? Are there any larger collections than the tpbs available also?

I asked the same question a week or two ago and it seemed like there are no good grim-dark fantasy comics.

However, if you haven't already read Berserk, I'd suggest checking that out, it's manga but it's exactly what you're looking for.

There's that North Road, or something like that, Viking book that seems pretty grim-dark fantasy but it's only like 2 issues in.

Yup. It's fun too.

Ah, just read it! That was good (issue #1 hit MU this week). And yeah, I guess it would have obvious once I started reading anyway that it's not prime universe, considering Gwen and Harry go to the same high school (and Sajani!). And instagram exists.

My favorites from this weeks huge MU drop were Spidey, Invincible Iron Man, Vision, and Deadpool.

Extraordinary X-men and The Amazing Spider-Man were both kind of crappy.

Nova and Daredevil were just just kind of there.

Now that I've finished Superior Foes and caught up on the weekly stuff tonight I am starting Annihilation.
