Prey is BACK! (Arkane Austin, 2017, PS4/XB1/PC)

Watch dogs also looked cool at E3, at the end we've got very mediocore game, same with Prey 2, all we got to see was that 2011 E3 footage, might've been good, might've been shite, we'll never know now, but no point in whinning as there are no promises it would've been so good as some people think.

Human Head's Prey 2 is one of the biggest crimes in gaming industry. It lookes so fucking good and unique in the gaming landscape. And it was supposedly almost ready. I mean somewhere there is an almost full game that will never be released because Bethesda (or is it zenimax?) had to be the fucking villain. I admit that these kinds of scifi psychological thriller games are my thing but FUCK ME I want that blade runner alien bounty hunter open world game. It's actually one of the only open world games that really spoke to me in recent years. It looked genius.

The only tiny hope for me is that Cyberpunk 2077 will be a bit like Prey 2. It doesn't look like there'll be any aliens in C2077 but there'll likely be highly-augmented humans, a very vertical city with decent mobility options and, probably, lots of bounty-like quests. They also mentioned you can play FPS or TPS.

This looks really interesting, sci-fi horror is great and Arkane always delivers. Probably my highlight of E3 so far.

never left the stone age
Now that my disappointment is gone I do think this looks really cool. The main character is atrocious though, I've never seen an uglier dude in a game.

Except there were zero mechanical changes to Watch Dogs from the E3 video and the game, it wasn't the gameplay that made Watch Dogs E3 look spectacular and all hype. While it was the gameplay that made Prey 2 look amazing. Human Head studios already had much more available than what they showed at E3, unlike Watch Dogs which was a vertical slice. There is still nothing like Prey 2 in the market while even when Watch Dogs was shown it was not something particularly novel.

Infact the entire reason Prey 2 was cancelled was because Bethesda themselves thought they hit jackpot and wanted to take over the studio and ended up doing shady stuff to achieve that, which resulted in the death of that game ultimately.

While what they did show looked interesting, that was even more disappointing than the game being outright cancelled; bringing it back in a way that has absolutely nothing to do with the original or what the sequel was going to be is not a good thing.

A pale shade, yes

Dishonered never wantend to be a Thief clone in my opinion. I see more similitudes with Dark Messiah of Might and Magic.

This one, judging from the premises, really looks like a SS2 wannabe. I hope they get the "survival" aspect right, that's the main thing that many of the SS2 wannabe (like Bioshock) are sorely missing.

I can see why people are upset that it's not Blade Runner Prey... But that was years ago, a different studio, and not even a real game. This looks rad, in my opinion. Bethesda pushing out great games these days!

Not even a real game? Unless they had achievements for parts of a game that didn't exist, it was pretty far into development.

"Prey2" is in the Steam registry and has achievements that span the entire campaign, so it must have been content complete or close to it.

It's time like this I wish I worked at Valve, so I could generate myself a key and satisfy my curiosity.

Bethesda Softworks is only publishing these games — the praise goes to the developement companies.

No Native American, no portals, no buy.

Ok, that's a little dramatic, but This is not a return of Prey. It's essentially a different franchise with the same name. Boo

I stand corrected. I thought the only thing shown was the CG trailer, but a quick youtube search proved me wrong. ^_^

CGI made to look real is just wrong in my head. Also it reminded me a lot of Deus Ex for some reason. Will reserve judgment until I see gameplay though.

Looked very cool. I'm interested!

Oh, and please lets not pretend that the earlier, now cancelled, Prey 2 had any more to do with the original Prey than the reboot.

That's not the core of the problem people have with this situation, but even still:

Prey 2 had Tommy? Forreals?

We'll see if they tie it into the original somehow, but that's unlikely.

It doesn't though. Nothing in the reveal points to the game being any kind of cyberpunk which sets it apart from System Shock already.

Any hopes of them remastering the first one? Now would be a swell time.
That's very unlikely, because the first game ended with the words "prey will continue".
This seems like a total reboot. Only the "dark ones" and some sort of trial nightmare seems to be common with the predecessor.

However, the story seems to be very nice so far.

Very interested in this. Trailer instantly made me think of system shock. Not sure why exactly it's called prey though.

Yeah, not sure if calling it Prey really helps it or hurts it. Clearly they went with an established IP because it's harder to sell a new one, but was Prey lighting up the charts?

I guess we're all paying attention to it more than we would have.

I highly doubt that Prey is remembered that well that it matters in one way or another

Shame.

As a Native American guy, PREY was one of the few games out there that gave us a pretty solid Native American protagonist. I loved shooting aliens with a bow composed of spirit energy or spirit walking all over the walls.

"Prey will continue..."

*sigh*
Hope the new PREY is good, but the original is what I wanted more of.

Where is the system shock stuff coming from? Cos I wasn't really getting that from the trailer

From the old document leaks. It was outlined as a System Shock 3 ish game. Arkane is already known for their Thief lookalike game (which turned out to be far better than Thief 4). They have Looking Glass staff in employment.

But a true System Shock 3 is also in development by Spector.

I... wasn't ready for the protagonist's face reveal. Looks like a poor's man Adam Jensen with an even more douche hairstyle.

As a reboot of the original reboot, I'm not feeling it. The story/theme does not look interesting, and the graphics are just ok (the impressive parts were just cutscenes).

A shame they neither tried to do a follow up of the original Prey (Native American pseudo lore), nor reused the concept of the bounty hunter in space. Guess this is going to be a wait-for-more-info for me.
Really? He didnt look Chinese AT ALL in the trailer.

Like maybe I need to get my eyes checked but he didn't strike me as Chinese at all. I have no problem with him or she being so, just the trailer to me seemed to be showing different.
Echo the sentiment. Hope his/her background plays a relevant part, and it's not just a cynical attempt to be marked as racially diverse, yet putting what's basically your typical white person.

This was the only thing I saw during Bethesda's show that had me interested, but I have to say I'm sort of cautiously optimistic about it. I mean, it appears to be a horror game, which is cool, and will probably have deep systems -- but I'd voice a similar complaint to others that, what, exactly, does this have to do with Prey?

I don't doubt some connection, but I wish they had been a bit more on the nose about what that connection actually is.

Also, any reason to believe this is running on id tech 666, or is this likely a void engine game?

I am super excited for this, but at the same time I feel extra sad that we will never see Human Head's Prey 2.

Sorry, those quotes of Tibb were just being used in response to Exorcist. The part you quoted was still in response to Exorzist.

Ah, right, I see that now. Ending the first sentence of the post with a period threw me off, haha.
