Breath of the Wild is the official subtitle for Zelda U/NX, first gameplay trailer

I REALLY love the cold exploration approach to discovery and story that this game seems to be adopting. I'm curious to see how far they'll take that without holding your hand too much with story or quest direction.

Loot!
Crafting!
Survival!
Weapon durability!

It's everything I never wanted in a Zelda game. And those constantly interrupting windows with that dang jingle every single time holy fucking shit somebody make it stop.

Also greatly enjoyed the addition of voice acting, even if it's not for everyone. If that voice talking to Link is supposed to be Zelda then they absolutely nailed it with her VA. Sounds exactly how I would expect Zelda to sound.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Some people here have quite unrealistic expectation for an open world game on WiiU when it comes to graphics.

Okay, now this part of the map looks barren and bland to me. The initial part was cool.

My problem with the map is that it doesn't look like a 'real place'. I don't know if it's not high fidelity enough or what, but it looks like a really big 'level' rather than an actual field or valley or whatnot, you know?

I like open-world games where the wild feels like the actual real-world wild.

Incidentally, these are my least-favorite kind of open worlds. Reality is bereft of easily recognised landmarks and a carefully controlled flow, the sorts of things that make game exploration fun. There are way too many games that are content to throw you in a big sprawling environment that looks real but is also pretty tough to remember individual aspects of.

I think I'd just frustrate myself endlessly to bash heads with people that I think are being overly negative and quick to judge, because opinions are opinions, after all.

Personally, I think it looks like a fresh take on a series that didn't need to do the same thing every game to be special because of the talent behind it. The same rings true here: this team knows what makes Zelda Zelda, and they are really breaking the mold because this series needed an injection of new life into it.

I'm very excited, very optimistic, very curious, and very jealous of those in attendance at E3 who get to play it.

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much
It seems like there is a connection to Wind Waker. Link even looks like the statue in the undersea Hyrule Castle, maybe this game shows the flood? The Ganon-ish thing we saw in the trailer looks like Ganon escaping from the WW intro.

The game looks really great, but I'm still not feeling some of the rpg elements =/. They could certainly have done without the weapons breaking, I think.

Fucking hell....why is this not blowing me away? The very first reveal trailer sure did. While i really dig the new features and how RPG like it is, the world so far seems so empty and void of wild life, if that's the right wording. Where are the wild animals from the very first trailer? I think it showed sheep and deer?

Just animals that are there for the atmosphere or any other purpose. Maybe they will be added later on, but it feels so empty to me.

You are in a very tiny portion of a very long game. They are not going to throw everything at you all at once

Pretty impressed, but then again they have been working on this for an eternity. HOpefully the NX version is nicer looking with a more stable frame rate.

Only issues for me were the bareness of the land. I hope there are hundreds of caves, secrets etc spread out. Otherwise its a massive world with not much to do. Wind Waker pt 2.

Lol pretty much. Theyre gonna design this like babby's first open world game so experienced players are gonna be pulling their hair out at forced tutorials and tips and shit.

So continuing with the translation of ancient in-game text we have:

DUNGEON

Here's how they'll do voice

1. Only the companion talks
2. At an early point the game some evil force steals her voice
3. At the end of the game she gets it back and says:

So I guess the female Link and the voice acting rumors were wrong. I guess there is some truth to the voice acting bit, but I thought the rumor stated full voice acting (besides Link)

The lush and organic feel of the environments together with the colors used create a very relaxed experience. I love it.
Hope the world is filled with awesome things to explore and (challenging) puzzles to solve.
Can't wait to see some dungeon footage.

Yeah, textures weren't too hot and there was quite a bit of pop-in.

I didn't expect that it would feel so much like SotC. That's certainly interesting. So far the lack of people apart of one old man also feels very much like a next-gen version of Zelda 1. Will be interesting to see if we'll just find ruins of Hyrule in this game or if we'll also see vivid cities (thanks to time travel mechanics or something similar). Seeing Hyrule both in ruins and in its former glory would certainly be interesting, but this might be too much to ask for in an open world game.

Only thing I'm not convinced of yet is the amount of loot and equip you collect. I'm not a fan of this stuff and the weapon durability looks really low so far. Might be on purpose so that people try different weapons in the demo, though. Also, the image quality seems to be rather bad, here's hoping this will be improved in the NX version.

Looking forward to playing it myself (which will hopefully happen next week).

ive only seen the trailer, im on blackout for actual gameplay but i have to say that it looks fucking incredible. that music, that art style, that title. i can not wait to get my hands on this.

So the femLink rumours were false? :( that's a shame.

Game looks gorgeous though and I am digging the visuals + sound. Looks like a world I want to explore!

The game looks incredible, i really like the art direction. I guess the NX version will look even better. Hopefully it plays as well.

I see a ton of potential here. Sure, the graphics were poor and the scenery kind of bland and basic, but I set my expectations for those appropriately. Music was also, unsurprisingly, awesome.

Environmental interaction seems to be the goal here, with interconnecting systems ala Far Cry 2. Exciting stuff I must say.

The interconnecting systems is what I want out of an open world which many games have failed to deliver for me many times. I have a good feeling this time.

I do like Nintendo is trying something a little different but it looks...I dunno...boring?

I loved Shadow of the Colossus and Ico because they were intriguing and you didn't really know where the story was going. With this, you know it's going to be a Zelda game and the world just looks really lifeless and grindy.

Again, happy Nintendo tried to mix it up a bit but I don't know how fun it will be to actually play.

looks great and all but the fact that you get tools from exploring the world is worrying me
i'm used to get the tools by playing the dungeons or doing a quest, i haven't played Skyword Sword and i don't know if it was like this, and the climbing is really not a good idea in my opinion

The only thing that annoys me is the fucking jingle every two seconds when you find an item. You get rid of the music, get of this too. And the window stopping the action with it.
I love all the rest.

Outside of the survival element I agree with you.

Definitely future Hyrule. The rusty master sword, the temple of time in ruins, Link resurrected by a sort of magic-techno machine fueled by that blue Sheikah liquid. What the hell happened? :O

Phone reception is more important to me than human rights
Still though. 'This Zelda will be so brand new!'

-Weapon durability
-Item stats
-Loot
-Crafting
-'Follow the point on your map'

Come the fuck on, you're playing catch up to a decade of open-world game design that you should have been at the forefront of with this series and you know it.

While I agree it nice to see a change of pace from a traditional Zelda game.

Now all I wait for is Mario Galaxy/64/Sunshine type Mario.....and I will probably get an NX day one.

Hell, maybe bring back a Mario 2 type game. The adventure version. No collecting but getting from point A to B and fighting bosses here n there.

My favorite thing about Zelda games has always been exploration and this game promises that in spades. Now I hope we get a glimpse into a dungeon to confirm they still have my second favorite thing about Zelda games intact.
Also, this looks like a technical marvel, Let's not forget this is running in a WiiU. Comparing it with Witcher 3 is silly...

One of my fav things was exploring too. And this world looks huuuuge....

Xenoblade X is beautiful.

So is Zelda BotW - this wasnt my point. Seems like people want to be blown away graphically by an open world WiiU game ever after they have seen what is possible on much more powerful hardware. Just not realistic.

Same as expecting thousands of people to run around just to fill some part of the map during an early demo...for crowded areas and cities...sure...but i dont expect just 100 of dudes to run around in the wild for no reason.
