Blood Curse? Yes I have, but they already confirmed RE7 (the whole game) will be first person right? And again, if the game is gonna be playable in VR from start to finish they can't go too crazy with the gameplay.

RE6's amazing combat system is probably out but that is a given if you want to make a horror game, and one in an enclosed space like a mansion at that.

It's something different and that's not a bad thing. And nothing about the game seemed low budget.

Dusk Golem, what are your impressions on the demo?

It seems there's a lot more to it, there's a lot of loose ends and people keep finding new stuff. So it seems like it's a puzzle to a bigger thing hidden inside of it.

My thoughts on itself are a bit complicated, but I'm looking forward to it. I do have videos and impressions definitely, though.

At this point I just want them to release a separate RE Mercenaries game with RE6 mechanics and lots of characters, stages and modes to play. It would do for my action RE fix.

And I really hope they will reveal a little more about RE7 story and characters soon.

If they make you choose between first person and third person I might, I might pick this up.

Resident Evil 6 had a first person aiming system which I never used.

Will watch. =)

It's different from both action and classic RE, sure, but it is generic as fuck. The last time they rebooted the concept (with RE4) they tried something unique at least. They took a risk and the end result was fantastic.

Even when compared to other games in the same genre (first person horror) this demo is nothing special. The fact that they tried to make it so similar to PT (which was fucking amazing) doesn't help either.

And yeah, I don't know what the budget is, but it feels low budget to me, especially when compared to previous games (or again, PT, where the production values were obviously very high)

A RE anniversary Mercs game would be amazing

Well I signed up for the ambassador stuff even though I haven't played the demo and are very skeptical about the direction it's taking..

So this is a quick shot I took on mobile after watching the sizzle reel again:

Em8f8aP

I haven't found another game on PS VR like it confirmed, nor does it look like any other games announced. Doesn't really look that good enough to fit nor on a plantation, but it could be early footage thrown in and our first look at combat.

It's a damn shame that this is looking like a budget mainline title due to whatever they may have scrapped. I want a horror atmosphere in RE, but not like this.

Edit: May have to click to access the img. First time doing this mobile side.

With more of what is coming out of the game. I think you might be right. Or this could be killing floor 2.

This so much. They could literally do whatever they wanted with RE7 if they also gave us a mercenaries game. But unfortunately, I think Umbrella Corps is their attempt at pleasing action fans.

Which is just the weirdest thing. Since The versus Modes were never that big of a deal compared to Mercs fan reception

Dammit, that's exactly what it is.

Welp, I'll be diving into the demo myself shortly. Maybe all the disappointment will set the bar low enough to get something out of it.

The thing about P.T. is that it was a one off so they made it count. It was completely separate from Silent Hills.
It was also made by friggin KojiPro.

The RE7 demo is just a small preview of what is to come and primarily seems to be focusing on all things that aren't action on purpose. Notice how it goes all in on showing the things that were not present in the last couple of entries (horror, item hunting, mystery, exploration etc.).

Sure it has P.T. vibes but so what? It's not like we are getting Silent Hills ever and Kojima isn't going to make anything like it for quite a while.

I'm reposting my thoughts on the demo from the other thread.

I was hyped when I saw the trailer last night. But now that I've calmed down, I ended up thinking about this game and demo and more detail, because it's driving me insane just how very different it ended up being from what I expected.

Anyways after watching streams of the game, I'm now convinced that this game is their attempt at finally perfecting what they tried to do with Survivor way back in the day.
Because as I recall the idea was to make a first person horror adventure game, but with the added bonus of being able to alter the events of the story by taking different routes.

In this RE7 demo, we can see something similar in that the family man's appearance is triggered contextually by your actions. Some items are also moved around because of the demo's zapping system.

Of all routes they could've taken with RE7, they ended up going down the route no one expected, but has in fact been done before. I'm actually quite surprised by this and am very curious to see how this turns out.

So any thoughts anyone?

If that is how the entire game is then it's an interesting direction to take for sure for a series that has generally always been fairly linear, especially when you know what you are doing after finishing an entry.

It could add quite a bit to replayability and make playthroughs feel more unique from player to player.

If you are going to abandon a formula that's been succesful for years, you better do something unique, great, or both (like they did with RE4) With this they are being completely unoriginal and mundane.

And no, there's nothing wrong with trying to be like PT per se, but it is pretty much the gold standard in the first person horror genre, so if you want to be compared to it, you better nail it. Unfortuantely, that's not the case with this. Trying to emulate PT so shamelessly only makes it more obvious how mediocre it is.

You may at least want to see the full new formula before disregarding it like that :p

Again, the fact that they confirmed this will be all first person, and playable from start to finish in VR doesn't give me much hope for the final game to get that much more interesting mechanically. And again, I hope I'm wrong.

But hey, at the end of the day I'm a RE fan, so I'm gonna play it for sure. I'll probably buy it used though, I don't want Capcom to get the idea this is the path I want the franchise to take.

So... is anybody here getting Umbrella Corps? Wasn't going to but now after RE7 announcement I changed my mind. Deluxe Edition ftw.

Have it pre-ordered myself, going to give it at least a couple days play with a couple friends and see what we think. If we like it, we'll play more, if not, well we're all Resident Evil whores. No regrets.

Cross-posting from the RE7 topic.

Since surprisingly, no one has done this, here's a Resident Evil 7 trailer analysis. I am taking a look at the interesting parts of both the Sony E3 2016 trailer and Capcom's channel trailer, both of which are actually different. But first, Sony's conference version, as it has a lot more unseen stuff.

First, from Sony's conference trailer. A few things you guys may have missed.

ebd4d49641f8acfde6021a7bc2943bc0.png

The words fade out, and this forms in orange briefly from KITCHEN:

7f849d2bd2605b6ebac32ed34f756ce3.png

I don't think that's supposed to be a 7, it definitely looks like a 1. And notably the trailer fades out with this and does the colored orange thing the game's main logo does. Could there potentially be some deeper connection to RE1 than we realize? Or could it mean something else?

Now, most of the trailer is a slightly reworked version of the demo for RE7, but there are a few interesting bits when he inserts the video tape and multiple video feeds play at once:

87e7b8cc4c0bfed92bbf7f80b707fcae.png

The Sony conference camera zooms out a bit, and the whole stage reflects different trailer elements, but in this shot we can see some incredibly orange forest (and it seems to be gameplay, someone slowly walks through it slowly), and directly below it some bigger dude approaches what looks like someone laying down on the ground? It's hard to make out, but definitely stuff we have not seen.

NOW, this one is not going to make much sense with a still shot, but makes more sense in motion.

The top-left shows that in some segment of the game, we're going to be playing as a black character, which is cool.

In the middle right, there is a section where you DEFINITELY drive a vehicle. You can see the steering wheel, and then an option for you to smash the window and a car rearview mirror, so there's some sort of vehicle section.

This one took me a while to make out, but in the bottom-right there is some zombie(?) on fire who is jittering around ala Jacob's Ladder style almost like crazy and seems to be able to move super fast.

In the bottom-left, I can hardly make it out but it looks like blood cells going through a vein.

8b828e9465f428ed2e336266f76214f2.png

This one has a few interesting shots too. In the bottom left, we have a fatter cop character in what looks like a parking garage who's lights are flashing red and blue from the cop car. He seems to approach us with some hostility, keeping his hand on the holster of his gun.

Now, the middle two to the right are the two point of interests in this trailer. Again, this is hard to tell without motion, but in this shot, we see two similar enemies to the burning one I described. It seems a common enemy in this is a zombie thing that has jittery heads and limbs that can move surprisingly fast. We see a large zombie thing move by fast at the end of a tunnel looking area, and we see a zombie-looking thing mercillesly bashing itself with its jittering limbs against our slower protagonist. I'm finding the fact how FAST these enemies look interesting, since frankly our character seems quite slow. I'm not kidding either, the two in this shot seem like they're at least four times faster than our MC, and since they're the only identifiable enemy I see in the trailer, they may in fact be one of the main enemies in the game. From the blurry perception, they seem like fast Jacob's Ladder Zombies, but one of them looks way too big to be a regular zombie.

---

Some misc observations off the blurry footage, if I spot more, I shall report.

I've been saying that the game could potentially be related to Arklay in some way. Seems like the sort of tone they're going for.

at least we got Rev 3, amarite?

Also cancelled once RE7 bombs.

I don't actually think RE7 will bomb.

Something I noticed in that demo is that you can assign basically any item to a shortcut on the d-pad but the only think you can actually select is the axe. Even if you put the back door key in a shortcut you can't use it when standing in front of the door.

This makes me think that shortcuts will be exclusively for weapons and maybe healing items. I also reckon that inventory will expand down to the bottom of the screen but that's not really based on anything.

Speaking of Revelations, has anyone played Rev2 lately? I've been picking it up when I only have a couple of minutes to play, and aren't the drop rates horrible? Like, really ass. I've only gotten one Rainbow album this whole time.

Grinding Code Red is really unrewarding. If you're soloing Code Red, you don't need a level 93 off-brand Magnum or another 3 Daze parts.

Shit's pretty dire

Even the event rewards are trash

I hope late-stage raid has a better reward loop in REV 3

Unless they stick Mercenaries there

Oh shit, we need a standalone Mercs

So far as this bombing.... people who buy PSVR are going to buy RE7.... who else is throwing down a big-name, established mainline game within six months of launch? This is a huge thing for that platform. I think it will be fine

The whole grinding aspect of Raid is why I don't prefer it too Mercs.

I had a lot of fun working my way up, but the late-game stuff is just a dead end. Enemies are spongy, loot is garbage.

A little grind is fun but I have almost 200 hours in Raid and one named Lvl-100 gun. There's no incentive to keep going, really.

I was actually playing it a few moments ago waiting for South Park SoT to download and I was playing Code Red and kept getting shit. But then again, I played it do death so my stuff is pretty good but still.

But Rev1 is miles better than Rev2.

I'm so sad we're probably won't be getting a Mercenaries mode soon :( We need something. Too bad Umbrella Corps wasn't a Mercs game. Still waiting on that Mercenaries 3D port tbh.

Stream also just confirmed that RE7, the actual main game, was already coming along quite a bit when they developed the kitchen tech demo.

So this debunks development started then.

That's interesting. So the demo might be a good chunk different than what was actually made.

Stream keeps freezing on me (only one since E3 started), so relying on you Reizo.

That's good to hear. It's just odd how Capcom really brought their marketing A game to RE5&6, and now it's almost like damage control when there's not even a fire in the first place.

Did catch that them dancing a bit around the occult presentation. Do we know what was the reasoning behind those similar elements in RE4's development. Virus causing harmful hallucinations?

Edit: To paraphrase, they said they understand the concern for the occult and ghost stuff that they are seeing in the reactions. There was reassurance that while they can see where that's coming from (not denying those elements are in play), they are not abandoning traditional RE elements. So as we've seen for ourselves, there are physical foes more akin to what we're used to.

Not sure if I posted here or not.

Hello everyone huge fan of the series since 1999, lost hope with re6 and orc, but re7 brought it back and now I am more than excited for it.

Since I have nothing to help you with the demo here is a story: back in 1999 when I was 7 my aunt gave me Biohazard 3, next thing I know is me sleep walking to my parents saying Mom don't forget to buy the red gunpowder from the store.

Yeah, that left a bad impression in Mom about gaming.

I'll try finding a use for that axe later and I'll report if I find anything.
