God of War E3 thread (impressions, interviews and new info)

well the figure looks like a ghost, so I assumed it was Athena wearing a cloak or something

but it could be the mother like you said, thats probably the better guess

It does look like it's wearing something on the head, or maybe these are horns, i don't know lol

Would not be the least bit surprised if the runes on the axe represent different upgrades purchased for that weapon.

Oh yeah, I can totally see the frost reaching out to specific runes to represent specific upgrades. Nice.
A pretty strong theory as to who the kid is. I don't have the time to actually do the research surrounding this, so I'm assuming what this guy says is based on actual fact. Given that, watch out if you don't want a potentially huge reveal spoiled.

Fuck yeah, we've got a name. Gotta be it. Damn solid theory right there.
Man, using R1 and L1 as attack button?? So conflicted with this game. it looks amazing, I dig the concept as well. Love the setting and even that it's more personal and story driven. However, the gameplay doesn't look fun. It looks like all you can do is run up and press R1 and L1 and take away control from the player with a cinematic. I like that games are taking story so seriously now and value character building, but I don't know if I'd trade that at the cost of game play. So far, I'd only play this because it looks pretty and I've played the past games. Hoping we get more in the future showing at least a drop of what the old combat used to be.

If I recall correctly, Barlog said it's R1 and R2. He mentioned strong and light attacks, I believe, as well as short and mid-range, maybe? I think it was from the PlayStation LiveCast interview. I have no doubt there will be plenty of attacks and combos we can do. After all, this is God of War, and Barlog said the only reason we didn't see any of the usual "bombastic, cinematic" action was that it was already a given and they wanted to focus on the emotions and story for this demo.

Woah, nice. Haven't seen that one before. I really love Kratos' new look. Especially the beard, because his face wasn't exactly pleasing to look at before.

Thinking back on E3, this is the game that keeps coming back into my mind. It is such a bold change for the series. I really wanted a new mythology and camera for the next entry. I don't think I would have went for Norse or a camera so close behind the back, but I like both now that I have seen them.

The story changes are the ones I wouldn't have expected. I've never been a Kratos fan, but I'm really interested in seeing his journey now. I love all the little teases of things this game might bring in the demo, many of which have been talked about in this thread. I'm already imagining how things like the dragon or serpent and some of the other Norse mythological figures might play into this game. Then there is all the discussion on the son and who his mother might be.

I did initially wonder how things like platforming and large-scale boss fights/setpieces would work with the new perspective. I can see how it works for combat, but those I worried about initially. But after hearing Cory talk and him assuring us those things will all be in this game, I was sold.

If I were laying down bets on which game would turn out to be the best at E3, I may pick something else because I still don't know exactly how all of this will come together. But if I am picking the game that excited me the most, the one that has stuck in my mind the most, I'd go with God of War. I can't wait to see what else this game has in store for us.

They would need a new voice actor for the kid if it's that long, unless they got the voices done early. The kids voice is going to go through puberty if it is a 2018 or 2019 game. We'll get into a Sword in the Stone situation.

I just can't stop thinking about this potential ash scene..

I just feel like it would be a very powerful moment Kratos revealing to his son how he got the ashes as a punishment....by literally killing his wife and daughter

just think how the son would react to that, if a scene like this plays out

I feel like Kratos would tell him straight up what happened though, gosh I can't believe I'm thinking too much about a hypothetical scene that may or may not be in the game

I wonder if his son knows much about his past.

Actually i just noticed that each rune has a meaning

ᛗ = m = Man
ᛜ = ŋ = The god Ingwaz
ᛇ = ï (æ) = Yew/Tree
ᛊ = s = Sun
ᚺ = h = Hail
ᚾ = n(?) = Need (?)
ᚷ = g = Gift
ᛅ(?) = a(?) = Abundance (?)

Wait, what? When did they say this? Shit. I was hoping for late 2017.

Yeah, I didn't see that anywhere.
Where?

There was an article with an interview of an SSM employee in News when I googled God of War. Trying to find it now.
Edit: oh shit lol that article was from a year ago.

Either way, if the game was in 2017, they would say that at E3 2016 since that's just a year away. Unless they are saving it for PS Experience and say there it will launch in 2017. Since they haven't put 2017 yet I assume it's at the very earliest a tentative Spring 2018 release.

Pretty incredible reveal and the game sounds even better. Totally loving the changes. Glad to say I care about Kratos again.

Aww yiss. Nah, I'm gonna be optimistic and keep hoping for a Holiday 2017 release. For now, I'm just going to go with the rumored release date for the Neo and that God of War is supposedly a launch title.

Although, I can totally see the dates changing if Sony were to change their plans in response to the Scorpio, I guess.
he has to be in the game

I hope Kratos gets a supporting cast this time, that's not just his son, and possibly his wife and Athena or whatever. That, and I hope he doesn't kill or fuck every god he comes across this time.

why on earth the kid has so many scars at so young age? this kid mum has gotta be a Norse Goddess or something of the like

Parts of Fenrir's story in Norse mythology have some parallels to Kratos in the whole "betrayed by the gods, time to wreck their shit" thing. I would not be surprised if he is a major antagonist or character Kratos has a strong connection with in a future game. (Or he could just be a random boss fight, but the storytelling opportunities with this guy in particular are big in regards to what Kratos has done and what Fenrir could do.)

I think Mid-Late 2017 is probably the best guess

This. Corey mentioned during the IGN interview that the game already has been in development for 3-4 years. At the very least It's gonna be another year before it's released. Mid - late 2017 is what I'm hoping for.

I think Sony learned their lesson. Unless they are certain, they are not gonna announce a release date.

Do you guys see Kratos taking care of his son as him trying to have a "second chance" since he failed his wife and daughter?

I noticed that Sony didn't date anything other than The Last Guardian, and Horizon which already had a date, at their conference. Seems like they're sitting on that type of thing after their plethora of delays this generation.

Yup, I think it's better this way.

March 2018.

Book it.

I'm actually thinking 1st half 2018 would be Killzone 5; Guerrilla Amsterdam has more than one team, right?

I also bet Sucker Punch's next game will be out around then.

Anyways, on topic; what are the odds there's any type of Sex mini-game in it? Obviously, the blatant male power fantasy scenes from the original trilogy won't be her, but part of me thinks they might do something a bit artsy here.

Lots of nominations :D

Oh no, it's Evolve all over again D:

I just watched the trailer again and love it. I wasn't so sure about changing the voice actor but Christopher Judge is pitch perfect. Seeing him with the boy brought back feels from playing Ghost of Sparta.

Imagine a moment when he redeems himself to his lost family and their ashes fall from his skin through his care of the boy.

I don't remember much from GOW 3...but didn't Athena want to be the ultimate god, but Kratos stopped that from happening

I can see her having a huge role in this game, but more behind the scenes...Maybe she allies with the Nordic Gods, or maybe she manipulates them for her own gain to get back at Kratos
