The sheer volume of hysteria in this thread is really something to behold.

I urge you all to remember that pretty much none of us have any real idea what the net consequences are, especially over a timeframe longer than 2 hours since the referendum was called.

For most of you this is largely an emotional matter.

Currency literally losing tons of value and markets crashing worldwide and you're crying about hysteria.

It's kind of amazing Hounslow was so close. My family and I all voted remain (the first time they've all been energised to do so) and yet here we are. I would have thought a Borough with 30% or so Asian population would have voted in favour of the EU!

Everytime I've voted (Against the Tories, for AV and now EU membership) I've come out on the losing side. I've just not aligned with the will of the people.

Sad that the currency rates will hit me so hard :/

We've done 'okay' out of the Barnett formula thus far. But overall, a significant amount of what would be Scotland's GDP is funnelled through Westminster first.

Quite similar to the Leave campaign's arguments, actually!

We can be fully self-sufficient in terms of energy generation. Our tourism industry is extremely strong. We have excellent higher education (secondary, a bit less so currently).

A lot of expenditure would no longer be required if we weren't tied to the rest of the UK, especially in defence.

Basically, our ability to sustain ourselves, whether our overall output dips or not, would be offset from being so badly treated and neglected by so many centre and centre-right governments in Westminster.

Thanks for the well thought out responses!

I feel like Scotland going independent makes for a more interesting case study than the UK breaking from the EU. Existing agreements in the common market will be renegotiated.

As one of the founding members of democracy, I really don't understand how people can think it's much easier to take a drastic measure than make amendments to tackle specific problems. Realize there isn't a UK constitution like the US', but the knee jerk reaction to current issues really blows my mind.

David Cameron, folks.

No, it doesn't but keep believing that while every metric shows Trump will lose big and that democrats are excited to vote.

Overconfidence and apathy is the problem this is a game changer; don't forget McCain was ahead in the polls thanks to Sarah Palin as VP until the economy tanked. Look at how close the vote tallies for Brexit are.

Jim Motherfucking Sterling, if you're out there can we get an epic rant right here? It isn't often you cut loose on a subject that isn't gaming.

Can they actually do this? Or do they have to be "allowed" to leave?

I'm pretty sure they don't. They almost universally voted remain, it would make no sense for them to stay. Scotland joined the U.K. to be a part of the EU, and Northern Ireland shares the sentiment.

Beautiful CNN Reporter says that a source in the EU stated unequivocally that the UK will NOT get a good deal. They don't want to set precedent for the rest of the EU states. That, and now the UK will have to negotiate separate treaties for all the EU countries.

I'm not supposed to be awake for another hour, but I can't get back to sleep. I'm torn up inside. This is just devastating to all my future plans.

And to those saying there won't be a border with NI -- the problem with the Common Travel Area is that EU citizens can still enter the Republic with only a simple passport check. If immigration is as much of a big deal to the Leavers as it appears to be, it's in their interest to erect a border, as nothing would stop them from easily passing into Britain without one. For the first time in history, Ireland will actually be a "Gateway to Britain", in the way that monarchs feared a French or Spanish invasion for centuries.

Round about 9/11

How old are you guys, cause the world has never not been so racist.

Just cause folks tried hiding it and shaming it, doesn't mean it wasn't there in the background festering, and growing.

I mean shit, Apartheid was abolished less than 30 years ago.

Civils rights Act was 1964, and Jim Crow laws still existed and MFers in the states still hate like no tomorrow.

Hope the EU is stronger for this. Leave the UK by the side of the road, it's what they wanted, go forward stronger than ever and more united as one.

The EU just lost its third biggest contributor. Which ever way you cut it thats going to mean a smaller EU project going forward, in rescources anyway.

How is this declaring war? UK is just getting what UK wants an Out from the Union with its consequences.

Also who is going to side with UK in a possible EU v UK war? Russia?

Well being openly hostile is basically justifying people's reason to vote leave.

We might fuck off out of NATO next and leave you to deal with Russia.

Oh......oh.....fuck.....

I thought I couldn't be more disappointed with this country than when the tories were voted in last election, looks like I was wrong.

Just proving my point. You don't actually have a rational position to back up what's currently happening to the GDP,

Nothing is currently happening to the GDP. The British pound is not the GDP. A bit of basic knowledge might lead to a little less hyperbolic fear on your part, so I encourage it.
justifying the countless people even on this very forum who's lives have gotten fucked over from this

How many people in this thread, exactly, and how have their lives been fucked over in the past 2 hours? Did a voting booth fall on someone and kill them because it had too many Leave votes cast inside it?

So you agree. I'm glad we've reached an accord.

Just odd to me that someone can rationally believe the vast majority of their country is voting purely spite other people. Hint: you are in the minorty, maybe your opinions arent the valid for the majority of your fellow contrymen

No they will have to negotiate one treaty with the EU. However all the treaties with third countries are now null and void and need renegotiation.

And yes EU better give UK a really shitty deal if they want to hold the union together

'Stay in or we'll fucking kill you' isn't much of a union though.
