That German woman on the radio is heartbreaking. This has emboldened racists and xenophobes to a degree that I've never seen. Its genuinely scary.

Do you not understand the long term ramifications for the economy by leaving the EU? There's plenty of information if you'd just look.

The people playing the market understand them very well and don't seem particularly bothered.

Phew, finally caught up, even though I cheated and jumped from page 60 to 100-ish.

Still hoping for a Brexitus interruptus. I mean, like, for example kick GB out for a year or five with the implicit agreement to then allow them back as a normal "no extrawurst" member. It'd still fuck up everyone and destroy countless lives, but I've kinda grown used to you island-cunts. I already want y'all back, and you aren't even gone yet. Soccer just isn't the same without your spectacular implosions. ;)

That said,... How can it be that the only ones with a solid plan are the Scotts. I mean, sure, get caught on the wrong foot all you want, but after an extended weekend somebody ought to have dreamed up a rough modus operandi after this clusterfuck. Imagine a tsunami or other catastrophe, what the fuck are the English/Welsh/etc gonna do while their leaders either hide, play cricket or delegate everything to some nebulous future leader? I dunno, if that was my country I'd be screaming bloody murder in front of parliament or something.

President Obama's shrug at Brexit is a fucking betrayal. He's objectively the worst US President Europe has ever had. Implying nothing will change for 'average people' and that the UK will adopt the Norwegian EU associate model just shows how completely ignorant/disinterested in Europe. Obama is happiest talking to young entrepreneurs in a restaurant in Hanoi, sounding cool and achieving nothing.

Best thing he can do is say as little as possible about the whole ordeal and stay out of it. We don't want our president involved that deeply in this.

So I just listened to Farage's speech
Seriously, I wouldn't really want that because of the inocent people, but I'll really like to put him in full charge of the UK and the negociations, and look how long it'll take him to either tank the UK economy from previously 5th biggest to something like the 20th, or get outsted by a general revollution of the people because of his lies.
My best bet would be about a year

Surely you can see how it would be a bad idea for the US president to say "yes, let's all panic."

Also, he's not wrong to say that a Noway-like relationship between England and the EU wouldn't change that much for the average person.

Hunt supporting a second referendum us put me in the truly horrifying position of wanting Jeremy Hunt to become Prime Minister.

How has it come to this?

I can't believe he opened with "Look who's laughing now?".

People like Farage and Trump defy reality. Like, how do they exist?

Should have looked behind him.

Nah I'm sorry but the United States actually has a massive interest in seeing the post-WW2 order in Europe preserved, believing otherwise is complete isolationist naivety and the fact he doesn't even seem to understand the issue is terrifying.

At least Clinton will soon take the reigns and the US can get back to actually caring about what happens in the world. I get that Obama is a child of the pacific and has no interest in the old world, but the EU is on the verge of disintegrating with an emboldened, increasingly belligerent Russia licking its lips, and all Obama can say is 'well, average people won't be affected'.

Also, he's not wrong to say that a Noway-like relationship between England and the EU wouldn't change that much for the average person.

A Norway-like relationship is IMPOSSIBLE. Norway's status requires it accepts free movement of people and labour, something UK voters expressively voted against. Anyone who understands these issues knows this.

I'm confused. How is this Obama's problem?

We will get involved. Brittain is our "dearest friend" he and Kerry have already said we will have a strong relationship with the UK no matter what the EU does.

I believe Obama is saying all this to tell the EU we got their backs and to not do anything dumb.

Because everyday someone from America has come out to say something in support of the UK.

Also holy shit, that guy Faradan, that speech he gave was CRAZY! He sounded like he was threatening the EU into trade deals lol. Guy has a pair on him for sure!

Norway deal it will be but caveats free trade and movement. Longer transition to leave. EU funded projects will be funded by UK . Trade deals allow them to continue Paris abd Frankfurt main bank areas . Scotland and London have special trading deals to be set up . Scotland in more power than uk .

No more fucking farage no more uk bitching and moaning . UK have no say they know this but spin it as a win .

EU look like good guys UK look like they had a momentary lapse in reason. Powers in place to stop this happening again.

There’s suggestion in the Guardian that VAT will have to go up from 20%:

https://www.theguardian.com/busines...b0121e39336afe#block-577281cce4b0121e39336afe

20% is already pretty high. Any higher will really hurt people on lower incomes.

I wish the Pro-Brexit politicians a lot of fun explaining their followrs why not only there are unable to spend 50mn bucks per day (!) for the healthcare system now, but why they have to raise VAT at the same time. It's gonna be a slaughter.

And conversely, it has been explicitly stated that access to the single market will not happen without free movement.

It's gonna be a slaughter.

Looking at some of the anti-intellectualism I've seen going around, I don't think it will be :(

I've come to the conclusion that the UK is leaving the EU for now anyway. I'm saddened and dismayed of how my country has behaved since the vote.

I can see a GE looming soon and the main point: EU? In/out

Perhaps a new goverment is elected with a stopping art 50 mandate. One can hope anyway.

The situation right now is a mess, but much of it is due to uncertainty. Things will settle down. All I'm saying is we are not totally fucked... Yet. We need calm heads, not panic to make things worse.

It's too late. Folks screaming and stomping their feet the loudest about listening to experts intentionally ignore orgs and PhDs talking to the media about the different conclusions they've reached on what Brexit might mean. And they don't have the patience for thorough investigations and subsequent revisions looking into the aggregate economic impact years from now. The nominal financial markets have lost $3 trillion and counting.

what the fuck do you expect him to say? He has to come out and say everything is sunshine and rainbows. He can't do anything that might make the situation worse.

Thats clintons problem. Always wants to be involved in other peoples shit. Europe shoulf sort their own shit out for once. We got enough problems just fending off the insane right here.

I do believe if we are involved in anything it should be the UK and maybe Germany.

Labour can't go to it's heartlands saying they will ignore the result, same for the Tories in their seats.

This post is bizarrely crazy to me.

Europe was going fine until you guys decided to blow the place up. That doesn't seem like our fault to me!

I am not sure what you expect Obama to do here, say that the UK shouldn't leave and your country is full of idiots? Everybody already knows that, why dwell on it? International diplomacy isn't about repeating obvious and rude truths. Since the UK apparently voted to leave he's pretty much got to say, well, hopefully things will be all right.

Yup. My girlfriends dizz-brain sister, who got brainwashed into voting leave by her little england boyfriend, has already been told that "once we get the poles out, you are next"

Her boyfriends responce? "Calm down. It's not like they called you a nigger".

She is still with him, and still making excuses.

I've told my girlfriend, neither are allowed in our home.

Man, that's just messed up. I haven't come across a leave voter yet, but I know if I do that I won't be able to look at them normally again. They've voted to destroy this country.

Osborne's already talking about tax rises and more spending cuts. People are going to suffer because democracy needs to be respected.
To think a few weeks ago everything was ok, it wasn't great but it was ok.
And it's all entirely self inflicted. I have a feeling there might be mass civil unrest. People just can't accept this and "move on".

He's clearly saying that the UK will end up with a worse deal than what they started off with, which is what the EEA deal would encompass. So I wouldn't be too happy, because it isn't positive for the UK.
