3DS HOMEBREW Discussion Thread [exploits/carts/applications/games]

Tried running romhacks on my 3DSXL but it had low performance? Will this ghosting thing fix that performance, or is good performance exclusive to N3DS?

Okay, got a new 3DS XL yesterday, went through the steps to hack it up to before the 2.1 downgrade (still not sure I'm willing to go through all those steps, but that may change in time)

I'm currently using Luma for 11.0, but I have NTR to try and play around with the video streaming... but it was only recently I learned the person behind it isn't going to work on it anymore... Sad face. Has there been any hints at any alternatives that might be on the horizon for video streaming?

Also, is there any list for what games benefit from running at higher clocks/L2 cache?

Despite having already charged me, specifically confirmed my order was good, and giving me a shipping notification, Play-Asia have cancelled my Freakyforms order because it was out of stock. Fortunately my order from CEX went through fine, but it's back in the UK (whereas I now live in Asia). I might get it posted here, but I probably don't want to risk it, so might have to wait til September when I'm visiting England for my sister's wedding.

Bit of a bummer, but hopefully it'll be worth the wait, and who know's what neat homebrew stuff will be developed by then.

I'm completely new to the world of 3ds hacking.
Just bought a Mario kart bundle 2ds and figured I'd like to set up cfw.
Where should I start and what are my limitations? I'd be interested in emulators and I don't want to lose eshop functionality.

EDIT: I need help. I'm on step 10 on this page https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki/Part-4-(2.1.0-Downgrade)

I've followed all of the instructions from the beginning and when i load up decrypt9 and click on "emunand options" and "health&safety dump" it says:
"SD is not formatted for EmuNAND
Health&Safety Dump: failed!"

Nevermind, everything was fine.

I haven't touched my homebrew since like February or March.

I'm on ReiNAND on 10.5.0-30. Is it safe to update or do I have to go update new files onto the sd card for my n3DS?

I really really do not feel like re-homebrewing everything since it was already a pain to get it started in the first place.

If ReiNAND is still okay and I can stick with it and just update to the latest firmware I'd like to just keep doing this since it was hard enough the first time.

can share how to update CFW?

You'll probably wanna update your ReiNAND files, that's about it.

Other than that, you should be fine for updating (FIRM protection). Just update your SysNAND if you're on A9LH.

Finally went all in and got A9LH up and running.

Tried running Final Fantasy V Advance through gpsp but I'm getting dips to 40fps right off the bat. Using a New 3DS, is this performance typical of the emulator?

I know I can just inject it and install as .cia, but I'd rather all my retro stuff to be as drag and drop as possible. Is having individual gba .cias on the homescreen going to be my best bet performance wise?

edit - Also, sleep-mode is super important. Is this supported in any way for gba games?

Definitely. GBA injection is the best.

I don't think sleep mode is supported for GBA games... but then again, every single game is closed when you put the console in sleep mode. Do you mean making it "suspended"? If so, no. You need to close the game to return to the Home menu.

Yeah, a suspend mode would be awesome, but oh well. Time to figure out this injection stuff!

Hi, I just found out about the NRT wifi streaming and would like to try it but I'm really new in this so can someone point me where to start? I got a N3DS 11.0.0-33U Thanks in advance.

You can't. Your firmware is too high, which means you cannot downgrade or use any hacks which would allow it.

Sorry man.

but that's how open source works, they just have to release the source code to comply with the license

I need some help. I just installed menuhax through browserhax on a 2ds with 10.5. firmware, what should I do next? Is there a way to update the firmware through home brew so I can use the eshop?

ShadowNAND will let you boot to cfw sysnand without SD in it,it's like permanent CFW.
However,it's still early in development.
and it uses A9LH.

I know, but is worth installing right now? I see many people are installing it, even if it's not as stable as "regular" A9HL today.

Almost certainly not ? Unless you've got a clear use case for it. Its less functional than a9lh Luma and every update for it requires writing to NAND and potentially breaking a9lh. Its not like I use my N3DS without its internal microSD super often.

How do I delete the update file on my 3ds? It nags me when I turn the thing on and I don't want to accidently press the button to initiate it.
The method of L+R+up+A and Power doesn't work for me as I usually hold L to get into Reinand on booting.

I am using the menu hax / RX Tools, can I update my emunand? you guys talked that with Reinand you just need to update the reinand first then the emunand, what about me?

Can someone tell me where to start following this guide: https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki (A9LH) if I already have a working emunand with RxTools?

I think I'm in the same boat. I waited like 4 months for this stuff to mature

I'm currently on 9.2 sysnand with a 10.4 emunand running rein. Whats the best guide and is there anything made for people starting off from this point? Or should I just update Reinand and stick with what i got.

I've spent like an hour and half reading the guide and gbatemp forums. They recommend changing rxtools to luma3ds. Then installing A9LH, which requires downgrading to 2.1.0 to get some files, then back to 9.2.0 to installing the loader.

Which seems to eliminate emuNAND (the guide says RedNand, which I assume is the same thing according to the guide). So if I have my NNID linked to my emunand, I should unlink it....

Honestly, it is confusing as fuck tbh. According to posts in gbatemp you will keep all your games/saves that are in your emunand/rednand, but I don't see how....

There's a step that copies your emuNAND to sysNAND. Don't unlink your emuNAND, because the NNID link will be copied to sysNAND too.

it may seem confusing and overwhelming perhaps, but the plailect guide is very good. It's complete and very clear. Just go through it step by step, don't rush things. Completing the guide takes a couple of hours, it's worth it.

Since I'm already on 9.2 and emunand 10.4 , where do I start? What do I skip?

You can start from step 4
From the guide:

"9.0.0 - 9.2.0 (with an existing CFW): change menuhax to type 1, set your menuhax trigger to D-Pad down, then start the guide at Part 4. Note that anywhere "RedNAND" is mentioned, you can pretend it says "EmuNAND" instead as they are very similar and the instructions will be the same other than that."

I have a Japanese n3DS (9.1.0-20J) setup with JPN Cubic Ninja and Gateway that I have been using for the past year or 2. Im tired of swapping out 2 carts every time I boot it up and want to go full softmod.

Are we at a point where I can softmod it and convert it to a US n3DS and not require Gateway anymore? Last I checked it was a huge PITA (if even possible) to convert a JPN n3DS to a US n3DS

first use this to move from RXtools to Luma3DS
http://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-updating-from-rxtools-to-luma3ds.427735/
after that delete RXtools files and you can continue from that guide.

When I set this 3ds up, the guide I followed launches menuhax to crtbootmanager right away (menuhax appears, then the purple screen with rxtools, homebrelauncher and options...).

According to that guide:
Code:
Menuhax

In the Luma3DS zip, go into the menuhax folder and drag and drop the boot.3dsx file to the root of your SD, replacing any that exists.

Now when you turn on your 3DS, it will automatically boot straight into Luma3DS.

If I do this, can I safely delete ctrbootmanager? Or should I do this instead
Code:
CTR Boot Manager

If your 3DS boots into a boot menu called "CTRBootManager", you need to add the "Luma3DS.dat" file to your SD card's root.

Then you need to edit the boot.cfg file on your SD card to include Luma3DS, as follows:

{

title = "Luma3DS";

path = "/Luma3DS.dat";

offset = "0x12000";

},

Adding it to the boot manager leaves you with an easy way to directly choose between the homebrew launcher and the cfw. You'll need to use both during the process

Ok last thing before I start I think my nands are unlinked. Will this cause any issues?
I'm pretty sure I updated my reinand to 4.1 but is there any way to confirm it?

Edit1. Ok I'm at he end of step 4. They weren't joking this is taking a while.

Edit2. Never mind system wasn't bricked. Didn't read ahead after the arm 11 step.

Edit3. And done. Took way to long lol. Hopefully I won't have to do anything again for a while. Only issue right now is I can't access the eshop. I get an error.

I just bought a used N3DSXL off of someone on craigslist and it has firmware 10.7.0-32U. Any reason to stay on this one or should I update?

update if you wish to never, ever use any homebrew again

or you could not update, downgrade, install a CFW and update forever with keeping the benefits of homebrew and region free.

If you feel skittish about AL9h and its requirements to downgrade to firmware 2.x, which is unsupported by N3DS and has a slight tendency to brick systems, you can just use the AL9h install guide and stop at the RedNAND stage.
Same feature set as AL9h, with slightly longer startup times and ~2 GB of your SD card being needed.

Thanks. Does the guide in the op cover the downgrade, or is there a newer guide?
