SPOILER: Columbus finds America
Really?? Again??

The truly scary thought is how many of these have happened over the years that were never reported because of the no one bad cell phone cameras.

Well, the fact that any citizen can carry a weapon is a big one, i'd wager. I'd be more jumpy too if I knew that anyone i'd encounter could very well be packing heat.

I mean, you don't see police officers approaching cars with their hand on their holsters where I live because it's simply unnecessary. Same with the 'both hands outside the vehicle and lay on the ground' initial approach. Cops are just human beings that pop their heads through your window and ask what's up. I have a lot of respect for my local law enforcement.

I have a feeling that this heightened vigilance in law enforcement is a direct effect of your loose gun laws. These boys in blue apparently think it's kill or be killed even in situations where they are just pulling over a car.
I'm no longer accepting this excuse, I've seen way too many videos now of police officers having calm exchanges with armed white men. This is about setting ill trained men who are clearly terrified of black people and putting them armed into high pressure situations. The end result is the wanted result in my opinion.

I can't even process this bullshit anymore

At this point I want cops to have their guns taken away... something.... anything...

this is insanity

yeah i totally get that. i'm sure they know going they arent gonna be the most liked lol. i'm in the camp that thinks every cop should have a shoulder cam mounted. it needs to be mandated. this lady was smart to live feed it
If I were a cop, I'd be honestly livid, and my anger wouldn't be directed towards the people I've sworn to protect but towards other cops and institutions that essentially consider all these lost lives are the cost of operating, a nasty side effect.

One incredible thing about all this is how the "what now?" conversations always naturally gravitate towards what is an appropriate response by black communities, as they're essentially told how to protest and feel, when it's painfully obvious that the resolution of these issues should be shouldered by law enforcement.

This has already happened. Riots are what happens when the community simply can't tolerate being fed bullshit over and over and over again. Like the statement the county prosecutor gave after the officers were cleared for Tamir Rice's murder.

The DoJ came out with an exhaustive report which hammered home the fact the entire Ferguson PD was corrupt and racist from top to bottom, and half the country still says, "well why are those people so angry? Justice was done, the courts decided!"

Riots will keep happening the more ubiquitous high definition recording equipment becomes. Two-faced explanations of what people can see clear as day will not be sufficient. You'd think America would learn by now (the Newark riots were in 1967 iirc), but 50 years later we still think condescension to entire communities to protect a few scumbags is a viable way to do business.

Yeah, but I'm surprised it hasn't happened nationwide yet. These murders are happening everywhere now. What's it going to take before the entire country is rioting and not just one city?

If it were only this simple then why do we have so few videos of white men being executed in cold blood as opposed to the overwhelming evidence of black men?

Guns are an extreme problem in the us and no doubt have an effect on the police force but its unchecked power, being a protected gang and overt racism that plagues our police force, not guns.

Im gonna install facebook on my ohone just to have instant access to streaming. Police in the us are a gamg and like a gang they cannot be trusted and every encounter you have with them should be treated as delicately as you would treat a serial killer.

Absolutely, you can hear it in the cop's voice. He was terrified that a scary black man was going to shoot him. Wether the victim had a gun or not didn't matter. Not sure what can be done about this maybe better training or screening of cadets or something. Probably start recruiting more black officers? But what black kid is going to want to be a cop these days?

Even if this cop get life in prison, which he should, I'm not sure this will get rid deep rooted racial biases.

What a horrible situation.

Black officers can be just as racist as white officers. Im convinced that it is the system that corrupts the "good" ones and attracts the bad ones.

For now things have kept relatively calm because white people have done a good job of treating any expression of anger "going too far". See how many times on GAF someone will lose it if a poster says "fuck the police" as if it were worse than the actual topic at hand.

When police point you gun. You must do what police say. Putting hands on pockets is suicide.

According to his the victims gf, Cop said to give him his ID. how is he supposed to do that without his hands?

Do people not read the thread/follow links/watch the video before the knee jerk reaction of "just do what the cops say" ?

It seems doing what the cop said got this guy shot.

Who the fuck would pull a gun on cop, who has you in his sights btw, with a kids and girlfriend in the car. GTFOh with that bullshit.

I don't believe that these police forces are looking for better candidates than they're receiving. These are exactly the type of men they want on the street making sure that nothing changes.

Did you miss the part where he asked for his ID? Was he supposed to mentally beam it to him?

required body cams for all uniformed police

charges of tampering with evidence if the body cams fail mysteriously

if police union yells, bust it apart

shit is on fire. on fire. drastic steps necessary or there's gonna be race riots. maybe too late even.

Institutionalized racism only exacerbates the problem I described above. It's not an either/or situation.

But realize that the US police forces basically have to encounter any situation as if the suspect was armed. Because they have to.
That simple fact immediately throws a wrench into normal standards of conduct and discourse, because you slipping up means you could end up with two in the chest.
Cops are trained to be extremely vigilant to prevent that from happening. That's what you call bad training and it often is. But you can't realistically expect officers to approach armed suspects without having their own survival instincts take over. Wrongly so, I might add.

From what I gather, US police officers rely on their guns as problem solvers and they get pulled at the drop of a hat. It's also why you see dogs routinely getting killed by cops who are scared shitless and use the only problem-solving method they know: their service weapon.

I know the culture is as it is and it can't realistically be changed overnight, but I wish that the average US police officer could have a few month internship in western european countries with no guns in circulation. See how the job differs. How the approach is different. See how people react to cops over here. See how their life isn't on the line every time they pull over a car. Because it's very different, and I say that knowing a few people in law enforcement. Most of them maybe pull their gun once or twice in their entire career.

Has it been established if the guy reached for his pocket after saying he was carrying and after the officer told him not to reach for anything? Typically if you inform an officer that you are armed they will be the one to disarm you. ID comes after.

I got pulled over by a cop yesterday with my drunk friend in the passenger seat.

Cop stood passively by while I reached into my glove box and dug around for my insurance and registration. Cop didn't care when I reached into my pocket to get out my license. Cop didn't even care when I dropped my license and had to reach for it under my seat.

I didn't even think twice about it either. Had zero fear that I'd end up dead after this routine traffic stop.

As much as I try to understand an feel the crushing weight facing black America, I never will.

I can't even imagine the complicated and deliberate actions black Americans have to go through just to have a chance not to die when they get pulled over, all while feeling a stress that can only be likened to being cornered by a wild, deadly animal. This man did everything they tell you to do, and he was still shot dead in front of his little girl. Being black in America is to hold an unfathomable weight, constantly wearing you down, crushing you. 'No justice, no peace' isn't a slogan of implied violence, it's a reality. Until black America gets justice they will not be able to feel or have peace in their lives.

Even if you get arrested, you might die in custody.

July of 2015, 5 black women died in police stations in various areas of our country. Numerous others die every month. So even if you survive an initial encounter with the police, if you're arrested you might just turn up dead before even seeing a judge.

Fuck this system.

I used to live in that neighborhood. Right next to the State Fair grounds. Nice area.

Can't believe this story this morning. It was on all of the radio stations too.

This is...absolutely sickening. The system has to change. I would like to think that at some point in the future our descendants will look back at this time period and think we were savages for putting up with this shit. Nothing will bring this man back but justice absolutely needs to be served here.

I would NOT feel comfortable living in the US as a black man.

I used to be a huge police supporter because they always seemed fair to me. Of course when you are young you tend to be naive and dumb as shit lol.

Once I got older I got stopped and frisked in NYC and was made to feel guilty as shit for no reason.

Sucks man.

At this point, anyone who still denies the racism problem in U.S. law enforcement simply shouldn't be taken seriously.

My condolences to his family. I hope the thug in uniform who shot him sees justice.

I made the mistake of watching this last night right before bed. Couldn't sleep for a while. Clearly that cop is fucking terribly trained. He is freaking out and has no head at all for a pressure situation. We need about half as many police, with higher pay, a much better selection process, and three times as much training for the remaining police.

A white family going through the same thing. Since this doesn't seem to happen to white families I wouldn't hold my breath.

Funny that the same people who use "fear from government oppression" to justify having guns are defending these police officers.

Good stuff

This is despicable, these cops should be trailed for murder (also referring to the case of yesterday).

And to the #alllivesmatter folks, the ultimate point of BLM is exactly that all lives matter, but there is a huge gap between how the cops treat/approach black people compared to white people. Just look at this vid. This is exactly what BLM adresses and with damn good reason, cases like these are fucking disgusting.

Do the cops in the USA even have physchological (stress)tests during their training?

No words.

That poor anti-white media let me tell ya.

This is being plastered all over conservative media.

Fucking disgusting.
