Mai Shiranui from KOF joins DOA5LR in September

Oh it's another ninja , this game clearly didn't have enough of those.

But hey , it's mai , so i'm kinda happy i guess .
it's not like a kof collaboration might be a good idea to bring another character so that Tag combos would be even more fun .

I agree, I don't think people really look at faces though.

Momiji's face looks pretty different than Mai's face. Though to be fair, most people in general just tell people apart by hairstyle/color. People mistake Kokoro and Momiji for some reason, just for having black hair.

edit: A more direct angle

Took me some seconds to realize that their faces aren't there where I was looking at.

tbh, had you asked me which KOF cast would fit to the DOA character archetype, I'd have answered Hinako. Far more clumsier, cuter, bustier, sexier and an expert in close combat

Not a fan of how some people here want basically every fighting game to be represented in DOA now. What's next, Bloody Roar? :p
VF characters made sense due to the history between the two, Naotora was weird but is from a Koei Tecmo game, Mai was the other bustiest ninja around and collaborations is part of SNK's new era.

Would be ridiculous to put Soul Calibur and Tekken in since they are competitors in the 3D genre and nothing alike.
Itagaki cited Fatal Fury, and Mai's design (and certain... physics) in particular as one of the key inspirations for DOA, along with Virtua Fighter, so there is sense to having this collaboration. I agree the Namco franchises shouldn't take part since this series was created to be an antithesis of that

It would make Itagaki hate DOA5 even more than he already does if any Tekken characters got in.

Mai's bust size is 86cm. Which is pretty ah, small compared to the rest of the DOA cast.

Mai in DOA still doesn't look like Mai at all though.

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
Naotora came to PC along with the majority of the costume DLC. They seem to port over anything the PC version can handle... so pretty much everything but stages.

LMAO. The PC version could handle new stages just fine, they just can't be assed to do that because that means them having to rework the PS3 engine they ported instead of the PS4 engine (which is nearly the same IIRC) they didn't do.

They actually used the DX9 engine from the arcade version.... which was basically a PC in an arcade cab.

To be honest it's the same generic sculpt they use for all the DOA girls character models and then slightly alter. She'll get the same six recycled fetish outfits they put our for $12 every time, too.

EDIT:

Case in point.

They actually look quite distinct in DOA5.

incoming season pass solely for mai.

according to MMCafe's translation-

What's more, DLC costumes based on Yuri Sakazaki, Kasumi Todo, and Hinako will be added in the update. Yuri and Kasumi's costumes will be breakable as a shoutout to their Art Of Fighting origin. The costumes will have a 2P color as well.

Really interested to see how they adapt her moveset. We should have a few flame moves, and she should have references to "normals" from KoF, Real Bout, Fatal Fury 2, Maximum Impact, etc, all over the place.

Also, this most likely means they'll be a KoF costume set with the next season too? Great job at having her proper modern voice here, also.

I just wish DOA included a character musical theme, like they did with all the guest in Warriors Orochi. (A shame Falcom music didn't come with the LOH collab, for example... except in the trailer :( )

Soul Calibur wouldn't make unlikely additional guest, Sophitia already guest stared in Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate (With some SC music, and the Soul Edge / Calibur as weapons).

I actually would have preferred to see a bit more of a separating style with the model here. Bigger bangs, a bit more exaggeration to some of the key points of her outfit (no, I don't mean her boobs), maybe a more defined floral pattern on the outfit (similar to XIV), etc. Still more interesting than a Tekken model, at least, though the post Tk5 designs normally stand out better than classic Tekken.

I hope one of her alts is her MI "Another" look. Naotora Ii got some pretty good costumes with her debut costume set.

Ooo, ok, this is good. Hinako and Kasumi Todoh... OK! Christie cosplaying as King would also be pretty fitting...

Here's what Mai looks like on the character screen.

EDIT: Nevermind. Haha.

Anyway, I feel like people who say that all DOA5 characters all look the same haven't ever really played the game.

It has nothing to do with playing the game.

The fact that modders that thoroughly analyzed the PC version of DOA5LR have proven that some of the character models outside of eye color, hair style, and bust size changes have near identical meshes and skeletons.

Ticks me off that they phoned-in the PC version like Tecmo always does.

Me too, but Im grateful to TN for at least bringing anything to the PC. Still, I'm so desperate for some of those new console stages, I'd pay up to $10 each for them (especially the Hong Kong street stage. It looks so nice).

You even say "some" yourself. So, I don't even get your point.

not bad.

Nobody cares what Itagaki thinks anymore. If Devils Third had been amazing then maybe he would be relevant.

Rather than Tekken characters they might as well turn Doa5 into a full fledged "DOA x Virtua Fighter" game. It's not like Sega is doing anything with VF

No. They don't. In fact that was the main criticism in DOA4, and they did an excellent job to change that. Mai does not look like Momiji.

Their faces all have the same slim shape. Mai looks nice, but she looks like she's out of a character creation tool that had the costume. Doesn't exactly say "Mai" to me.

Meh, that's a vague and lazy criticism. I mean, face shape? Really?

I'll agree to disagree. And I forgot how creepy people get around digital boobs, lol.

If you understand how meshes work which is the base model that comprised of the character before textures and other details are added such as lightmaps and shaders.

When you have two meshes that measurements are same it means for that model. The polygons / triangles that make up the character are identical.

This problem is far more prevalent in DOA5 as opposed model rips in other 3D Fighters.

Yes each character has different fighting styles, but as a result of shared meshes results in similar body types across a significant portion of the cast of characters and unfortunately gives them a samey appearance. Of course this may not be a problem to some.

I guess someone with a DOA avatar is going to take offense and deem it a lazy observation. But the truth is they look like they're all taken from the same female face template in a character creation tool, where only eyes, skin color, and hair were changed.
