Worms: WMD reveaked [PC & XO first] - new artstyle, vehicles, buildings

Stop It

Perfectly able to grasp the inherent value of the fishing game.
"With their latest offering the studio is trying to channel the spirit of Worms: Armageddon"

Haven't they been trying to do that for at least a decade now?
No, and that's the problem.

Armageddon was excellent and each entry after it couldn't match up. If this does, sold.

They will also be showing it at Gamescom, this was in the press release

"
In addition, Team17 will be presenting both Worms WMD and The Escapists The Walking Dead at the UKIE Royal Box at this year’s gamescom. The presentation is at 11.45am – 12.45pm on Thursday 6th August and will feature Team17’s Creative Manager, Kevin Carthew – we hope to see you there"

Attendees can also check it out at their booth

Fuck me. Was talking to a friend about Planet Coaster, soldat and gunbound this morning. I wondered where the fuck was my Worms remake or whatever.

Thread answers my question.

Battlegrounds was hot trash in every aspect, from the art to the network wonkiness to the fucked up mechanics, and it pissed me off so often while playing (though I'll admit now it could be vaguely considered fun in between the heaps of shittiness) I wrote off any future game in the series.

This actually has me interested, though. It's like Team 17 might be learning from their recent trail of worms mediocrity.

Fingers crossed that they don't charge $50 at launch for all this fan feedback being incorporated

I don't have much interest in playing this but I am excited for the inevitable Achievement Hunter Let's Plays in which Gavin completely wastes his turns and accidentally kills his worms in freak ninja rope accidents.

Love me some worms. One of the best offline couch MP games on PC imo.

Always play it with my cousin and brother.

Had an awesome game of it Christmas Eve with two of my good friends, my brother, my friends brother and my cousin. Turned it into a big Worms Session, so many laughs and so many mess ups.

This is Worms Revolution, fantastic game. Defo recommend it to Worms fans.

Im interested, but I wonder how long I have to wait for the PS4 version.

I also wonder what else they can do to improve the game. I think powerups around the map would be cool (like something that you can use once, like a stronger melee attack or something).

I think the fortresses and vehicles add a good reason to traverse around the map.

Someone above suggested actual physics for different material like glass, wood, etc. I didn't realize the game lacked that.

Why dont they add physics? FFS i want wood, concrete and glass to behave as it should. Trees and buildings should fall, why cant i destroy the bottom of the tower and have it fall and crush my friends?

This is just the same old worms with some new graphics and weapons.

Agree with you 100%

I love worms but they really need to do more than just W:A with minor bells and whistles!

How large are the maps and how many worms per team there are? I was disappointed by post-WWP Worms because they all had that small scale: just 4 or so worms per team, small maps, clunky interface with huge buttons everywhere (you could set up all match options on a single screen in Armageddon and WWP; later games - don't remember whether that was Revolutions or Reloaded - required several screens to cover less options).

tl;dr info:
  • full on 2D
  • new hand-drawn assets (drawing inspiration from anarchic cartoon characters like Ren & Stimpy)
  • heavily influenced by W:A
    [*] classic ninja-rope (8:52 in the video)
  • driveable vehicles and turrets added on the map - "We didn't want the vehicles to necessarily be a fore[gone] conclusion, as in, you get into the tank, you've won the game," Carthew explained. "It fires a barrage of shells, it's quite hard to concentrate the tank's fire. There's an element of skill involved. Sometimes it makes more sense to use one of the game's existing weapons, so we're keeping that balance of strategy in the game."
  • enterable buildings - "They act like mini-fortresses," the man from Team 17 explained. "So again it's an area of the landscape that I'd say plays to the strategic strengths of the game. If you get inside a building, your worms that are inside the building are hidden from view to everybody outside the building."
  • rewritted produral map generatios to work with new artyle

well that's me in.

Looks like every other 2D worms game.

What I liked doing was modding the voice files to say different things, they should add that as a feature. Record your voice, make it high pitched, use it in-game.

I'm never buying a Worms game again. They keep releasing these games but the networking ability and online infrastructure is like something from the mid 1990s.

They're doing cash grabs. Stop buying this trash folks.

Okay, I'm lost. Worms games are the low budget equivalent of COD or Assassin's Creed, and yet Team 17 somehow still justifies making the same game over and over and over and over again. That dev team has gotta be in purgatory.

So I have to pre-order to get weapons that were already in previous games? They're not exactly giving me a whole lot of reasons to not just play Armageddon.

Yeah. I don't know how I feel about pre-order weapons for a Worms game. The masks are OK. But weapons? Tough proposition.

Preorder for Ming vase, sheep launchers etc.??

Yeah, that's...I'm a bit speechless. Not what I hoped for when they promised to go back to Armageddon roots.
