Yo, for all the super smart tech peps out there, how powerful is the tegra X1? Like in simple terms? Like compared to a wii u, xbox, etc... Would a handheld/console with this make sense?

I'm not gonna go around hooting and hollering (learned my lesson after those controller fakes haha), but this makes alot of sense of the rumors/reports. Especially the Macronix ROM, SemiAccurate NVidia scoop (which blatantly called NX handheld), and also the oft-forgotten IHS report about a 3"-5" LCD.

I'm going to highlight this and the original nVidia leak. There was word with that leak that Nintendo was getting one hell of a deal from nVidia as the latter wanted to tap the market and gain share into it.

That is one of the few ways I can marry the current information circling (that's been murmuring for a while now) without also attaching some unrealistic and absurd price to this thing that I just cannot imagine after the WiiU/3DS price issues that Nintendo faced. All the same, cheap price for not-cheap-parts would mean cheap parts which doesn't gel with the idea that this thing can handle modern ports (which puts a serious "bottom" on it).

It is very hard to fit this supposed (if not necessary) level of performance in a "hybrid" that is mobile. That'd be either outright magic or some very, very nice deals cut in Nintendo's favor on some high-end chips.

Liam is saying chip suppliers are the source. Nvidia already proving themselves as trustworthy partners?

That's likely. If they are entering production I think it becomes unreasonable to expect silence as that starts going to the production facilities. AMD leaked the Scorpio and Neo ages ago, lol.

About half as powerful as Xbone's GPU, only four cores, and it's limited to 4GB or 6GB RAM max I believe and I think 50-60 GB/s bandwidth. It wouldn't be able to run any big current-gen game in HD.

Whats this about?

As in, "worse looking" to keep the performance up, or "terribly performing" to get the graphics up. I admit that it was poorly worded.

An X1 is just over 1 teraflop.

This is semi-incorrect. That's half-precision. For consoles and desktop GPUs, we use single-precision. It's 512 GFLOPS.

Ouch, well I guess that would be a bad idea then to build a console based around it. Even if it is a hybrid console/HH.

This makes no sense, you'd expect Nintendo to announce the NX reveal date at least a week prior to the event itself.

Wouldn't they have to formally announce the platform before media starts talking about it?

Not if the information is leaked information. This isn't a formal revealing.

The NX has been in potentially thousands of hands at this point. The only reason nothing is known is because no one talks.

As it gets closer to potential reveal its inevitable someone feels comfortable enough saying stuff. Lets remember no one really knew anything about Project Café then all of a sudden one day in April 2011 suddenly 01net had general spec range, details on controller etc.

The fact is multiple rather credible people are suggesting they have heard things and we all may hear stuff very soon.

01net was a rather obscure site but suddenly was handed the motherload of info

I have a feeling that this upcoming one may be Nintendo's first ever controlled hardware leak. I don't know why, but that's what I'm sensing.

AFAIK, It can't realistically be much more powerful if it's primarily a handheld for cost, size, and battery reasons.

Nintendo's done fine with weaker hardware before tons of times; I'm not sure why people think it's suddenly going to be an issue this time. And if this system is a hybridish handheld, a true console may still come later.

Even if it means another 5 years of last-gen graphics and 720p?
My main system is 3DS. Do you think I give a damn about some petty graphics? It is all about the gameplay. I have over 600 hours of Smash 3DS because its fun. And many other games have plenty of time. I have over 2,200 hours total on my 3DS for fun games.

I hate the idea of a new system no matter what the specs because thats just more money to blow instead of spending it on mew games. But already I'm writing off a bunch of games to save up, since if I don't get I'll miss out on all future Nintendo releases.

The usual: Emily Rogers announced that leaks are around the corner and we have 5+ pages of people guessing as to what the NX is.
I have no idea if I should post this here but since the subject is still kind of relevant i'm gonna bring it up:
I'm sorry, I really am, I know people are gonna disagree with this because they always do. But I simply do not trust Emily at all. I have absolutely nothing against her, and I respect her, but I just don't trust this stuff. She's always confident with her leaks, and when they're wrong she just goes off into hiding until she comes back when everyones forgotten, and then she says something else.

Where's Mother 3's Localization?
All those Zelda rumors that were flat out wrong?
Every year should would say "Paper Mario U is coming.", until it finally did, and now everyone believes what she says.
And I recall hearing she was actually wrong with some Project Cafe stuff too.

I understand that we need to take things by a case by case basis, but I don't think we should take her word as gospel.
(and yes i'm expecting about 20 replies telling me about stuff she was right about, but that's not the point.)

How does the WSJ stuff contradict anything Emily has said?

WSJ says NX will come packaged with a portable unit.

Which brings us back to the discussion of a hybrid device.

You know what? I was wrong. My bad, I got some things mixed up.

It is crazy how out of touch Nintendo is. They work with a company to create the biggest phenomenon. And they probably could have purchased said company, but they fucked it up. They are getting something like 13% on their own fully own property. Who negotiated that? I guess Nintendo of America.

Not sure, but Nintendo America finally did something, and negotiated something like 13% revenue, meanwhile they own. Just about every aspect, but some idiot made a deal where they their property should have been 50% at least.

You should read up on the situation instead of pulling stuff out of your ass.

For me it would really suck if the NX gimmick is leaking. I want to find in the official way.whats even the point of leaking it exept being an asshole and get some anonymous internet fame?

I don't care how I find out, the thirst is real. Been waiting all year for information so I don't care if it comes from a leak or an official reveal.

A gimmick leak would NOT be good. So many people on here will either try to destroy it with hyperbole and false assumptions or hype it up beyond belief. We need to see it in action.

I can think of two scenarios that make sense based on the rumors coming from Emily (dubious as they may be) and from the WSJ info that suddenly seems more on the money than it was assumed at the time.

1. NX is primarily a portable gaming machine that reverses what Nintendo attempted do with the Wii U. Instead of having a dumb terminal controller that displays items from the console, you have a cloud connected streaming device attached to your television with minimal processing power that makes your HD capable portable machine a home console while you're stationary.

2. The NX is a more traditional home console that pivots the Wii U concept in a different direction by changing the form factor and processing capabilities of the Gamepad to make it a device that can stream your games or natively play companion apps on the go.

I could get behind either one if the software support was there.

Nintendo's FY 2016 First Quarter Earnings Release

After 15:15 JST, July 27

t1469600100z4.png

This actually counts down to the closing auction (15:15 JST) of JPX's day session: http://www.jpx.co.jp/english/derivatives/rules/trading-hours/

I am not sure when Nintendo usually publishes its earnings releases, but it is bound to be after the market closes anyway.

Nintendo's FY 2016 First Quarter Earnings News Conference

Tentative. Suggested 16:00 JST, July 27.

t1469602800z4.png

When a tentative news conference will begin I don't know, but the FY 2015 Third Quarter Earnings News Conference on February 2, 2016, appears to have begun 16:00 JST. At least I am bound to believe that due to this image:

newsconferencer7s8r.png

In close proximity to the time of earnings release anyhow. If it happens.

Nintendo's FY 2016 First Quarter Financial Results Briefing

Tentative. 10:00 JST, July 28.

t1469667600z4.png

Now, Nintendo hasn't had a briefing for its first quarter earnings since July 29, 2011, and that wasn't even a regular briefing (there was a Q&A however). I am including this here just for the very slim chance of a briefing actually happening.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
i' ve been saying it for years but people with the above state of mind should consider the Japanese Market and the effects it has on the probabilities of Nintendo going there with a home console first.

Japan is just too important to Nintendo as it's mobile focused and right now a really strong market for their handheld devices. Add to this that entering the arena to compete with a PS4 that has the entire "core" home console market to them, a very attractive upcoming ginmick with PSVR and the more robust lineup of 3rd party support reduces the possibilities of a vanilla home console even further.

So that leaves either the possibilty of Nintendo launching a Handheld in Japan first or instead this hyphotetical hybrid device. For them to tackle Japan with a staright home console they would need a ginmick that surpasses VR and that's not easy to do.

Handheld have always been more popular than their homesystems.....doesnt matter if you are talking about Japan or the west. Also they have less competition in the handheld market than in the console market - prioritizing the portable system is a no brainer, especially if it means that they can port their mobile games to it as well without too many issues.
