Should Sony announce a psVita2/psp3 in response of the nintendo NX being an handheld?

Lol the Vita still being in the reflection is killing me. And no. Not unless they get the storage situation rectified and cab market it appropriately.

They'd be better off just setting the money they'd spend on it on fire directly. Way less hassle and effort and probably cheaper long term.

Now a Vita revision with an OLED screen, SD cards and HDMI out, that could at least make its money back in Asia and not make the system totally irrelevant once the NX hits. Maybe. Anything more would be idiocy.

PS4 wasn't exactly a powerhouse at launch and was pretty small to start with. Surely they could squeeze similar tech into a portable form 5 years after launch?

What kind of mobile memory are you going to get with nearly the same bandwidth these consoles make use of?

Vita is a GOAT handheld but I'd rather Sony invest such funds into first and second party games.
Plus, you know their support won't be that long lasting if they did something crazy like this.

So, nay.

Awww another fun Vita bashing topic

That said yea.. I dont see Sony creating a challenger or successor and if they even entertained the idea they would have to take a much improved approach over what they did with Vita

No way its happening

Sony's one advantage over Nintendo was that their portables had some real graphical horsepower, something the NX seems to be no slouch at as far as portable systems go.

Very much nay.

No reason to make a Vita2 when they don't even care about the Vita, plus the Vita is quite powerful especially if you compare it to the 3ds.

I love my Vita and while it gets some nice support from Japan and indie titles, it's right next to the Dreamcast in my eyes as one of the most fun systems that died off too early.

And fuck them Memory card prices, I still think that's one of the main reasons the poor thing was doomed out the gate.

PS Vita is the best handheld I've ever had, and Psp was incredible when came out.

The problem is the software, expecially for Vita. They did not succeed in having at least 2 must have games on the vita.

If they could solve that, a ps vita successor would be more than welcome for me.

Yes, but only because I want to see what a shit show it'll end up being like the Vita. What a waste of amazing piece of hardware...

I love the Vita, so I'd buy one in a heartbeat. But there's no way Sony would do this. The market is barren for them, so why would they throw good money after bad? Heck, I'd say that the handheld market is bad for Nintendo as well, but they don't have a whole lot of other options.

Vita proves that they don't have any million seller franchise to support the system. Only Persona couldn't be able to save Vita, they needed Monster Hunter.

The only thing that saved the PSP was Crisis Core/ Monster Hunter 2. Without that, it would have been Vita Zero.

Its dead jim, sony fought a lost war in the portable market.
Precisely. It won't have Monster Hunter so it's not worth even creating.

So Nintendo have a new portable system, which shouldn't surprise anyone unless they're 10k, and you're asking if Sony should immediately react by starting work on a new handheld which would probably come out in 3 years time? I'm not sure that's necessary, but if they can pull off a literal portable ps4 sometime down the line it might be fun.

Nay, Sony is horrible with handheld consoles and they should just stop trying. It's a waste of money and resources. Nintendo has the market, let it go

No, unless Sony enjoys throwing more money away. Besides, Nintendo is creating a single platform that works at home and on the go, which seems like a much smarter plan than having a handheld base and a separate home console base.

As much as I would love a new Vita, it's not going to happen and I don't want it to happen.

I love my Vita to death despite the huge fumbling and neglect by Sony, but it has also been one of my most frustrating experiences with owning a system. The games came at first, but then just disappeared. There was so much potential with cross play and taking your console experiences on the go, but that was messed up as well.

Even the potential of mobile cross platform games with Android was lackluster. I wouldn't have minded playing more Android games like Dead Trigger on the Vita, but that never came to fruition.

I don't know where Sony will go from here, but I can't see them dumping money into a new portable.

For the people saying nay because the Vita is doing terrible, wasn't it doing better than the Wii U, in Japan at least? I think that if Sony did release a handheld like PS4 portable it could do well. As for one, it would share the same library as the console making it automatically have amazing first party support and secondly, if Nintendo NX is successful it proves that handhelds are viable, which means, a portable PlayStation is viable.

I'd love it, the Vita is without a doubt the best hardware of any portable gaming system to date.

Shame it doesn't get many games anymore.

they won't. but i wonder where they'll go after they stop the vita production.
will they let the library die or make it ps4 (5?) compatible?

Yea. Even a Vita Neo would be enough, so you could play Totori+ without getting cut out of the internet. Won't happen though.

Phone reception is more important to me than human rights
Not in response to the NX but if they think they can do better than the Vita.

No becuase they wont support it proper

However if they did, used cheap memory, had great third party support who dont bring horrible ports, so it's not just a japanese/indie machine (don't remove these types of games though either for the people that love them), removed touchscreen, longer battery life, L2,R2, clickable sticks, backwards Compatability, nice grip, and Iam 100% in.

Games they'd need to make me interested

GTA V Stories
COD Done by a proper Studio think Killzone Vita style
A Good Star Wars Game
A Good Marvel Game
Rocket League
NHL
Tomb Raider
Uncharted Golden Abyss 2
Saints Row Spinoff (to make up for the psp one we almost got)
Resident Evil 4 (cos why not it's on every other playfor almost)
Crash Portable
Red Dead Portable
Gran Turismo Portable New
Sonic Mania

What? Sony and Microsoft don't even care that Nintendo exists. They're not going to launch an entire product line in response to a Nintendo related rumor.

Sure, why not? I love the Vita, would be great to have another one. Although hopefully with a bit more content.

Never going to happen. Not after the way they threw their hands up with the Vita without really trying.

And even if they did, if they don't fix the problems with memory/content management and allowing more than one account to have data on a device, then I'd rather they not even bother.

If they released something like the Nividea Shield that allowed you to play your PS4 collection remotely and stream games sure. Other than that... no.

It would be a move almost as boneheaded as producing a successor to the PSP.

Therefore I fully expect them to do it.

Given how much the PSP sold (and how much mileage it had in their home market), it wasn't a dumb idea at all to make a successor. What was dumb was not securing an exclusive MH title and doing such a terrible job at advertising the damn thing.
