It's not finished but all of them will have the suffix of GAF.
Right now trying to come up with a list of world famous cities. Not done yet, and need to come up with two more categories, and a special 3rd for four special named planets.
The planets I discover on PS4 won't get names. In fact, unless it happens automatically I won't even "discover" them for the Atlas at all. Take that, final frontier of human discovery. Muahaha.
Not sure. I don't want to do silly stuff because I want to feel immersed in the fiction.
But I think for ships I'm going to name them after evocative guitars and pedals. Stratocaster, Firebird, Super 400, Echoplex, Rangemaster. Stuff like that.

From what I understand you can name everything, you just need to be the first to discover it before anyone else. At least that is what Sean Murray implied in an old interview. Things of course can change.
Creatures, Planets, even entire Solar Systems. It will be an interesting first few weeks when the game comes out and seeing the sorts of names that will be available.

I think I want to name my planet after Ethiopian (Amharic) words, to make up for my lack of doing anything else Ethiopian in my entire life - that being said, I had a cool idea!
So it looks like because of the patch notes
the odds of running into other peoples planets has increased.
So wouldn't it be a good idea to have a sort of... universal planet-name prefix convention?
Like, completely made up - lets say I want to name my planet 'Yetnayet' (which means infinite in Amharic). That's all well and good, but lets say I also want to be helpful and let people know that this planet is full of life, is really hot and has really useful resources? Maybe we can have like community prefix/suffix standard where we add some meta data in our names? An example 3 letter suffix might be, first letter life, second letter resources, third letter difficulty, using hex, if I think it's full of life, decent resources and pretty dangerous I can call it Yetnayet-E59.
Just a random thought, but it could be cool and useful!

Though I don't know how useful this would end up being in practice, I REALLY like the idea of something like this. It would be fun to feel like I am helping out other players by naming a discovery.
Either my last name, GAF name, or initials with a number after it. My initials would be cool, make it like Alien (MG-426 and stuff like that.) I'm leaning towards the GAF name though since it'd be more identifiable.
I'll just leave the planet names as I find them, the names I've seen so far have sounded appropriate. The named rocks on Mars have probably taught us all that it's often best not to be too free while naming this suff.
I wish I knew Latin so I could name all the species using similar Latin terminology to what we use in real life. I could probably do it with the help of the Internet I don't want to spend that much time looking stuff up.
I'm not going to use a theme, just gonna name stuff whatever I want. I'm not very creative though, so they won't be very good.
Well this sucks.
Amazon (US) is now saying that my LE order from March 10 is out of stock. I went through chat, but I'm about to call. It still says it'll be here Tuesday but...
Edit: Reconfirmed over the phone. There's no way I'm getting the game Tuesday....
I have a feeling the majority of discovered planets are going to be things like "nutsax420" and the like. Perhaps one argument against increased encounter rate.
Haha that reminds me of this old name game from when I was younger. Your porn name is your first pets name followed by the current st you live on. I suppose it would work for planets. Mine would be Coco Willow.
