So what's good about the game other than being a third person shooter?

Very little. It's not a very good shooter, the platforming is awful and the time manipulation is very canned and linear (no puzzle elements, just mandatory press and hold Y to do something to progress).

Come to think of it I still need to give Alan Wake another chance. Played it totally the wrong way the first time around and had a frustrating experience, eventually just getting bored in the middle of that first DLC.

I liked the action in Max Payne 1 &2 though.

well a lot of people love it, and are excited for it, because it's a remedy shooter. that alone, in my book, warrants a purchase.

Hopefully this is the first of many cases. I'd love for this to have an even faster conversion rate than GFWL -> Steamworks last gen.

I'm gonna go the other way and strongly disagree with you saying it's a fantastic shooter and one of my favourite games this year. Enemy reactions are superb and the guns/powers are really fun to intermix and use together.

Now I'll admit I can take or leave the live action parts but even they are perfectly fine in a cheesy B movie way. I certainly enjoyed them enough at least.

honestly, Microsoft funding big games in an attempt to push poor and/or failure-bound platforms and then allowing these things to eventually come to good platforms is a pretty great trend. I kinda hope it keeps going.

Yeah, when I stopped just taking cover and learned how to use the range of time powers it became quite a bit of fun.

I skipped all the live action stuff, they're far too long. Story was still easy to follow.

I can understand that some will enjoy the shooting parts a lot more than I did but those are less than a third of the game. I don't think anyone can defend the woeful platforming and the being told to stand in a certain spot and press Y to manipulate time to do a canned sequence is a waste of a cool premise that could have been used to make puzzles.

This is awesome news. I wouldn't have expected as quick a store shift, but more options are better for devs/publishers in general. You (the publisher) can't always mandate your selling platform and expect the broader market to respond.

I don't understand why they are putting their exclusives on Steam since the whole point of having a windows store is to bring customers to your own store.

It won't matter after a while since you'll get the same UWP binary from Steam or Windows Store, eventually.

what..... what do they all do?
is it just 5 copies of the game? if so, why?

It's 5 DVDs. PC games don't ship on Blu Ray because PC users didn't adopt Blu Ray.

I can't wait until this PC game is ported to PC.. wait.. what?

The game was initially ported to Microsoft's new standard, UWP. The initial standard, which is backwards compatible and has decades of third party programs built in is x64/x86.
This is the game being ported to the latter.

Too large for a DVD.

I do find it hilarious though that it comes with 5 game disks... In 2016.

That's how data works.

I already have it on Xbox and Windows Store version, but I'm curious to see if there is going to be some type of xbox live/steam integration sorta how like when you buy a Ubisoft game, you still login with uPlay.

I can see it being a thing especially if MS is going to release more games on steam.

I am thinking this is them testing the waters (besides other obvious reasons).

No.

This is purely an x64 release, has nothing in common with Windows Store UWP integration.

If you want it on Steam, you likely have to give up the idea of earning xbox achievements or using Xbox-specific features.

Tears of Nintendo
Now all that's left is the adequate price in Russia. And MS, don't even think about charging 4K RUB, no one's gonna buy it even with 66-75% off.

Obviously it's not 5 copies of the game. One cd wont fit the whole game unless it's blu ray

oh ya. I haven't bought a physical PC game in god knows how long; didn't even think about the fact that console games were blu ray and PC games aren't (...why aren't they?)

When the average PC has a Blu Ray drive installed you can say goodbye to this.

Until then, large games are going to have multiple DVDs.

It's never gonna happen thanks to the absolutely fucked situation with bluray playing software. :/ You can spend 100 ish bucks on software you like for them to just stop supporting it.

Hope this takes off. Physical PC needs more love. Also that box with the discs look like it'd be great to display.

40$ is a great price as well.

That said, game isn't very great imo but if you wanna support retail for PC it's absolutely a good deal.

Are these the same as the Windows store release?

edit:

Nevermind.

Someone tell Microsoft Studios that they are supposed to be helping the company wide initiative to kill steam, and that Win32 is legacy. Email must be sitting unread in someone's mailbox

Really awesome that more people get to experience the game now. Remedy deserves all eyes on the game

This doesn't necessarily mean performance will be any better guys.

Why wouldn't it? Its win32.

The game is a beast in a good way. I do hope Steam build helps performance some though.

This is an absolute lie. Must have just watched an Angry Joe review of it. Ha

Thought it would go to Steam but expected a year or two, not months.

Want to check it out one day, hope they can fix the issues.
