Hey guys,

I was at Gamescom yesterday. Here are my brief impressions from "worst" to best, feel free to post yours.


Steep

Suuuper rough, does not look good, controls super clunky.
Not sure what they can do until December, I hope for the best, but this was really bad.
Should not have been demoed in this state.

GT Sport

Rough. Everybody picked the Nordschleife - I went for some daytime Tokyo city-track.
Environment looked super bland and every car on screen seemed to reduce the framerate significantly.

Gears of War 4

Started nice and creepy, but once I had the first encounter it felt like 10 year old game design. Sitting behind chest high walls fighting of wave after wave. Not hot.

Mekazoo

Super good looking indie game. Sidescrolling platformer. Visually it reminded me of Ori.

Destiny Rise of the iron Lords

Love Destiny, but not for its PvP. This was a PvP demo. Destiny´s take on Kill Confirmed. Seemed fun.

Sea of Thieves

What was there was super fun. A multiplayer naval battle. Visually surprisingly nice. Canons at night look spectacular. Still unsure about the scope of the game though.

Dragon Quest Builders

It´s what you think it is. Dragonquest with a straight up Minecraft rip-off. Has the potential to be something really special, something I could sink 100 hours in.
Writing was surprisingly funny and good.

Forza Horizon 3

Same demo from E3, but with different cars. (I think). Took the BMW for a spin.
Overall fantastic as you expect.
Played the XB1 and the PC version. XB1 had some funky shadows, PC version looked way better overall, but had some frame pacing issues. (would not worry about that)

Titanfall 2

Who would have though! Played the first one a fair bit ("prestiged" 2 or 3 times), but never really fell in love with it.
This seems dramatically better in every aspect. Looks better, feels way better, sounds better - I´M HYPED!
Feels like the vision for TF1 finally fulfilled. Great, great game.

BONUS!

Did not get a chance to play PSVR although it was everywhere, but I was told by many people that it was really impressive considering the (PS4) hardware.
So there might be some crow eating coming my way....

I have a vastly different opinion about it, Framerate was smooth (Nordschleife, sunny weather) and the environment looked quite alive.

About PSVR: I tried it at Robinson: The Journey and went to The Climb (Oculus Rift) immediately afterwards. I was very surprised that the differences are so small!
PSVR is very good looking. Though, I have to add, when I tried it for the first time with Valkyrie, it was not attached to my head really well, and it looked blurry. Setting it up correctly is very important.

GT has been inconsistent for a while now.

Sometimes looks good, sometimes looks bad. Classic car models and everything..

Just want to say I mirror these impressions pretty much exactly.

GT Sport was very rough. Gears 4 was incredibly boring (old Marcus is now the exposition man in your squad). Loved Sea of Thieves, Forza 3 and Cryteks Robinson PSVR title.

I played EVE on PSVR yesterday and wasn't impressed in the slightest. First time with VR: controls were clunky/boring, visuals weren't that great, stuff was blurry even though the guy spent two minutes adjusting my headset.

I've been told EVE is one of the worser demos but I dunno.

I tried PS VR yesterday. Played mutiple titles. Fucking awful. The graphics on all titles. Yuck. Neo will save it.

The headset itself is really nice though. Can't wait for October for mine to come in. Neo better launch same day. Won't touch a VR title on current PS4 hardware.

It was just a presentation and we could ask him some questions. Funny thing is he was smiling all the way and really took his time to explain everything. The game didnt look bad too, certainly more hyped for this game and cant understand why it isnt on the main show floor

Really good impressions thanks. Surprised to see such leaps being made by Titanfall. Going to assume some of these ropey demos are months old and they'll be ironed out by now. At least we know which ones are warning signs for day 1 reviews.
