Final Fantasy X -Will- and FFX-2.5 plot discussion thread [Up2: Uh, um, errr, see OP]

Because other people's translations would obviously be more reliable than mine? Nice, thanks. A bit gratuitous, perhaps?

... But let's wait for those people who didn't understand the official blurb to confirm that for us!

Want to know why I chose to be skeptical of what you said? It's because of your biased tone. Simple as that.

But, thanks for the posting these.

If going by direct translation above I don't really interpret it was thrown at him as if he was an intentional target. He moved towards it. I'd imagine that he'd do some blitzball move with it (as it was often shown in game) but whatever floats the reader's boat I guess.

He got hit in the back of the head, said "ow", and then saw the ball.

But, you also have an inherent bias, at the opposite end of the scale. You're quibbling over details, looking to find something that will somehow vindicate the story. Anything that contradicts that narrative, you're equally skeptical and dismissive of. It works both ways.

Because I'm critical, yeah. I gathered as much.

But, thanks for the posting these.
Oh, I dunno: they're critical as well! ^^

Look, I can see you want this to turn out fine, but it's not going to happen. The novel (at the very least) is a lost cause.

Can someone please explain to me what the hell is going on? Apparently the stuff written in the OP is mistranslated, but not really or something, and what is this talk about NTR in X-2.5? I'd really like a proper summary of the novel =/

People debating whether Tidus kicked the bomb ball on his own or not... Doesn't really matter. The gore afterwards with Tidus' head flying over is just so over the top especially compared with the tone of FFX or FFX-2... that's not FFX, that's like, more akin to Gears of Wars or something.

People keep calling it gore, but it's not like there was a vivid description of the blood and guts...

Regardless... it seemed so over the top.

Decapitated heads is like a complete mismatch of tone with FFX and FFX-2. Well, in my opinion anyways.

It's less gore, more a comedy skit. His head explodes and he "dies", only to be brought back via Yuna's Portable Tidus Resurrectionist Kit. It's silly and it's jarring. If you want to explore the nature of his being, then fine. However, if you ask me, that's something best left alone and should ultimately be left as an abstraction for the fans to debate over. The mystery is nearly always more interesting than the truth. Particularly, if you're a Lost fan.

Honestly, even if Tidus died as a war hero, it doesn't take a genius to see why it's out of tone and fucked up. (and I speak as someone who doesn't hold FFX in high standards)

. No matter what SE does, even when they made an objectively good game like FFXIV:ARR.

Perhaps I do have one, I'll admit it. But at the same time, I have the curiosity to find out the truth as well, like seeking for translations elsewhere and share it in this thread.

Is it wrong for me to want to know the *full* story before I criticize the work?

The death is stupid because it's the opposite of the the way the original game treated death/transience/impermanence/etc ... It's not making it beautiful, it's just silly and flippant. This isn't mono no aware.

Yup. It's tonally bizarre and completely clashes with what's been previously presented.

What am I reading? I'm going to say FFXIII never even approached this level of wacky.
Well, (lolarious LR ending spoilers)
Lightning did just end up in France...

Didn't you get his fifth overdrive?

Hmmm which one? It has been so many years since I played FFX.

Don't really care about the game getting spoilered and I almost afraid to ask but, can you elaborate further on the spoiler for me? I admit, I am curious.

I wonder if the problem with Square-Enix's writing right now is that nobody can ever say "no, that's a terrible idea" or something. Maybe this is unfounded, but I can only imagine a company where Toriyama was able to hold the position he did (writing 4 big games) must be a political nightmare. Square should task him with writing stories for their all important mobile future.

(Yes, I am aware that Nojima wrote this and that's where someone needing to say "no" comes in).

Well,
...

No one is going to have any idea that this is even a LR spoiler the way you have it marked, considering this is a FFX thread, let alone the ending of the entire trilogy.

After watching the translated video, I do have to say that I don't really care. If it's a fanfiction you want, a fanfiction you get.

It's after Blitz Ace. It's called A Head In Your Hands. Basically Tidus shouts "Blitzball!" and unscrews his head, then kicks it at the enemy. He explodes, then Yuna does her summoner thing, revives him and he shakes his head and says "Blitzball!" again.

It was quite hard to get, you had to talk to the "I want to be a blitzball kid" one hundred times. The kid will then say "Do you want to be a blitzball too?", answer "Yes" and he'll give you the overdrive. So, yeah, there's definitely precedent for exploding head Tidus.

Oooooh.... that one. Never got that.

No wonder I could never defeat Penance.

Tidus getting his head blown off is still stupid. They could have easily done the story they're going for in X-3 without the ridiculous and unnecessary death.

As much as LR is terrible, you shouldn't be spoiling this for others. Edit your spoiler and at least warn people.
Come on man. Just because it was lame doesn't mean you should spoil it.

I know you both have good intentions but you both should have edited the quote in your post's if you're going to call out a spoiler. Now it's just being spread.

The scene sounds like something out of an Austin Powers movie, regardless of whether he actually had a hilarious bomb-kicking headless pratfall. I might actually be interested if that was intentional, but if someone over the age of thirteen laid out a scene like that without thinking better of it... I don't even know what to say.

Maybe it can make a spot on Fan Fiction Friday.

The idea of a bomb in the guise of a blitzball always sounded stupid to me. Really, would soldiers primed for war, storming beach, really kick a soccer ball if they see it just lying there? Would would fall for such a thing? And if someone IS stupid enough to go, "Derpy derpy derp, look, a blitzball!" and kicks it in the serious tide of war, wouldn't that alert everybody else to, well, notice that they should avoid blitzballs now on? That's why land mines are practical.... you don't see them coming. They are just there. The peril is where or where not to step. Who ever thought that it was a great idea to make blitzball bombs is, well, a fuckin idiot!

Since I haven't finished X-2 yet, I'm pretty much skipping this thread. What I want to know is, why the heck would you include Will on the same cartridge for FFX? Wouldn't you assume that people would probably listen to it after beating FFX before moving on to FFX-2?

Since I only played about halfway through X-2 about 10 years ago, I never found out whether or not Tidus was still around. Hearing his voice read the first line in Will better not have spoiled that. Thankfully the title "Will" is pretty ambiguous so ...

Also, I thought they'd include the English voice tracks / subtitles on the JP Vita version since I knew they were the International versions of the game. Nope. I just wanted to read some Alexander O Smith action while listening to the Japanese voice.

Too bad we can't pick and choose. Auron's ENG voice was awesome, but Tidus's JP voice is pretty good. :/

FFX had such a sad ending. The perfect ending in X-2 also felt somewhat sad: almost dream like. I've never felt satisfied with the ending for either game.

I for one look forward to X-3

Sorry, sad?

FFX ending meant that Tidus came back to life, but they didnt want to recognize it explicity leaving some room to our imagination :)[/QUOTE]

There's been a lot more clarified on the ffxchat forum, BTW. So much bad information in this thread.

Well Tidus obviously fell for it. I'm assuming it was aimed at his derpy ass specifically, not as a wide-ranging new tactic.

But what about the stuff in the OP ? That's what I want to know. I cannot believe that a major video game corporation would put out something like this.

Currently playing the HD remaster and loving it, and somehow stumbled into this trainwreck. Were there ever any complete translations that surfaced? Might have to snag a copy somehow and read it myself.

EDIT: Found this: http://ffx3chat.createaforum.com/general-discussion/the-novella-(ffx-2-5)-separate-amazon-release/

Wow, I'm gonna just pretend this doesn't exist. I always thought X-2 seemed unnecessary and tonally awful (gonna give it a chance though since I never actually played it) but this is a whole different level.

Ah well, I still love X.

So I got the PS4 remaster and these audio dramas are a mistake. They're nothing but trash. I like to pretend it's just fan fiction or alternate realities.
