New Zelda Breath of the WIld Weapons Gameplay video

Crossing Eden

Hello, my name is Yves Guillemot, Vivendi S.A.'s Employee of the Month!
It's so good.

Yep, hopefully he's as expressive in cutscenes too instead of another TP style stare at everything Link.

what do you mean getting serious with zelda.

More effort is being put into the gameplay elements.
Zelda always felt like a walk in the park with its simplicity but with BoW im seeing much more complex situations and items and its refreshing.

I think it's more that the complexity ramp up is shockingly steep for a Zelda Game, the game basically gives your entire moveset at the beginning of the game and its up to you to figure out how everything fits together. Kinda reminds me of Gothic really.

It's 2016 and the Nintendo polish is going head to head with its most formidable foe yet, HD open world.

Who will come out on top?

How much footage of this game have you seen? Both combat and enemy AI are vastly improved from the other 3D Zeldas.

I'll admit I haven't seen much footage deliberately, but that's setting the bar so low you could hold a limbo competition. The ai hasn't really been good in any of the prior 3d Zelda's.

Then you should watch more footage. The AI is pretty good with enemies prioritizing gaining the upperhand (better weapons) over charging right at you.

Any good examples? I've got neither the time nor the motivation for watching the hours of treehouse footage for it.

I think people are exaggerating the improvements in the AI.

Enemies are much more aggressive, though, and the enemy behaviors are designed to make it easier to get overwhelmed by groups. They're also a bit spongier (i.e. it isn't as trivial to stagger them), though I still think you can knock them around way too easily. (One of my biggest problems with 3D Zelda games is that they don't use knockback [or an equivalent of poise from the Souls games] appropriately and lean way too much on knocking enemies off their feet instead.)

They do more "smart" things, though, like taking advantage of the environment in ways that typically only Link could. The gif the guy below me posted is a good example.

And on top of that, the weapon variety and breakability and the possibility of finding tougher enemies even in the starting area means you can also be underpowered for a fight much more easily than in past Zelda games.

Remember, we've only seen the starting area. There are probably newcomers who will find it challenging, even if us old-timers don't.

I hope this doesn't end up like MGSV where the world is really big but it's all sort of same-y and empty. I know they said they removed towns for the demo but seeing the same environment in this trailer made me a little bit suspicious.

It's all one area.

It's the demo area, likely the same build since they had it at Gamescom. The demo area is 1-2% of the game map so I imagine there's quite a bit.

I know. I just wish they showed something else. As it stands it's just glimpses and promises that haven't been fulfilled yet.
I imagine we won't see gameplay from another area posted randomly on Nintendo's twitter. Likely not till NX is announced and they demo it on it.

It's super rare for the best area in a Zelda game to be the first one.

I'm struggling to even think of one example.

Was going to say Kokiri Forest in OoT, but really I'm including all the neighboring content up to the Forest Temple which shouldn't count.

I just love that link's movement is fast and responsive, I remember when I played other open world game(like gta5 and witcher 3), the movement of character always feel so chunky

Doesn't read OPs, especially not his own
This is what worries me at the moment. New weapon system is all well and good but... Slightly worried it'll end up a sticker star type situation where it's more advantageous just to avoid the fights entirely.

That, and I'm still not sold on the Zelda teams ability to make an interesting overworld after it in my opinion being the worst parts of at least ww, tp and ss. Xenoblade X being a big disappointment for me on that front has me sceptical.
Xwnoblade x completely nailed its open world, u may not have like the story or whatever but there was nothing wrong with the open world of that game

The implication that high level enemies can one shot you quite easily or two shot you quite easily. Let alone higher level foes. A bit offtopic, best Link design since Wind Waker

This is somehow exactly what i've always wanted Link to look like.

It's a shame that Smash 5 may end up sticking with the Twilight Princess designs if BotW doesn't have battle-ready Zelda & Ganondorf designs to use.

On-topic, it's nice to see more Zelda footage, even if it's from the E3 build. The NX reveal can't get here fast enough.
