No. 5.5tf machine, and no one would bat an eye at $499 :)

4.2tf and $499 would be the deal breaker. But that's as unlikely as an i7 CPU upgrade in the Neo.

4.2 $399
5.5 $499

That's my prediction.

I just think that GPU power should not be Sony's priority.

It would not be worth 100 extra bucks for them to upclock the GPU.

You go from an overkill GPU which will eat anything thrown at it for breakfast by default, to an even faster GPU which generally speaking, will be even more constrained by the bandwidth from the GDDR5.

Your going to hit the heat limit with that GPU overclock as it is, and the upclock to the RAM to speed up the bandwidth fast enough to take advantage of the GPU i[ clock won't be there, because you have used up your power and heat budget for the entire unit to overclock the GPU as fast as it will go.

Well, I agree that GPU alone wouldn't be worth it. But a combo of puma CPU, gddr5x and that 5.5gpu starts making $499 easier to swallow.

The heat limit though. Thats where the whole 10lbs thing starts to get interesting.

See, the puma cores, gddr5x and 5.5gpu would weigh relatively the same as the 4.2 version of this build. BUT, PSU and cooling system would be on another level weight wise.

Just days now, and the hype meter is on overload I know. 4.2 or 4.9tf at $399 is still likeliest IMO. But the possibility of the 5.5 dream is there. That's all I'm saying. And if be day 0 for that 5.5 build at $499.

Anything else expected to be unveiled at this meeting, or just the Neo? Any word on whether we will see a few new.games, or get some news on announced but unreleased stuff?

This poster pulses with an appeal so broad the typical restraints of our societies fall by the wayside.

You are getting what you pay for. Some people don't understand that.

If the NEO costs $499 there will be close to $499 worth of tech/equipment. Once again, you are getting what you pay for. The NEO will not be $499 with a Jaguar cpu (leaked devkit).

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Sony initially sold the NEO at a break-even price.. or even at a minor loss... They stand to make money off of software and possibly even TV sales.

What is this kind of logic? There's another post on this page saying something like "It won't be $499 with the rumored specs." Why not? Sony is not a charity company. It might as well be $399, but you guys need to brace for impact.

How much did the PS4 cost at launch? How much did it cost Sony?

How much did the PS3 cost at launch? How much did it cost Sony?

Sony makes more money from digital. Sony, more than anything, wants Playstations in peoples living rooms. Over-pricing will limit the market. That would be a poor business choice.

They are not a charity company, but they expect to sell units, and usually, outside of blunders like PS3, sell their hardware with pretty reasonable prices. Do they expect to sell 20 million units with NEO at 499? I hope not, unless they are expecting Slim to disproportionately do the business

The xbox one launched at $499 and had higher sales initially. Depends on how aggressive they will be with cost cutting but $499 is certainly a possibility.

There's a new PS4 revision coming, as you know. That PlayStation will be used to get PlayStations in living rooms without one.

To keep expectations in check, just expect neo, slim and psvr to be there and a few games we know about that show the advantages of the neo. That way if there is something special it will be a great surprise instead of going in expecting the biggest conference ever and leaving disappointed.

We know Sony's committed to compatibility of games between PS4 and Neo. The two consoles get the same binaries but Neo will have access to an additional mode. Does this sound like a scenario where Sony would consider using a completely different CPU architecture? It's gonna be Jaguar for this reason and because it has to be compatible with pre-October 2016 PS4 games.

That's a very good question, which version of the PS4 are they actually expecting to reach the forecasted sales with? Both of course, but one is more than likely what they're couting on. I'm not trying to argue that Neo will be $499. I'm just trying to point out that it could be. $499 is not $599. :)

Why oh why would Sony go past 399?

I highly doubt they will so my prediction is 399. Even if they do price higher wont be by much. No way its 499.

Zen is binary compatible with Jaguar, just faster which like the Jaguar up clock changes the timings anyways, and also as you noted the games do actually receive a Neo patch hence a new binary (which could even allow a change in ISA).

Some people oversold you the drastic reset to zero scenarios with CPU changes... Apple changed CPU arch four times in the iPhone line (armv6 to armv7 to armv7s to arm64) as well as going from single to multi core and they changed macOS from PPC to x86 to x86-64 or x64... magic of universal/fat binaries and some emulation (necessary with the PPC MacOS9 to to x86 MacOS X transition).

At launch the PS4 cost of the processor and the memory works out to $188, So I think Sony buying the RX 480 at bulk could come to around the same price. If the cost of the other parts are cheaper why wouldn't Sony sell the Neo for $399.

Of course the slim will account for most of that. It's the mass market unit. Neo's positioning is as as a high end PS4. It is being positioned as the more niche of the two. The presence of the slim gives them breathing room to price up Neo if they want. A price of 449 or even 499 wouldn't surprise me too much at all, though of course, as a prospective buyer, I'd love for something lower.

Did it? It debuted to less sales then the PS4. Then it won December by about 40k since the PS4 was pretty much supply constrained. Then it was a fairly one sided slaughter afterwards.

Personally, if Sony (or MS) would release a machine that consistently hit 60 fps at higher than 1080p, and then later at 4K with another mid gen bump, I would stop purchasing GPU's from Nvidia.

That's what Sony wants, the neo was apparently designed to stop people "upgrading" to PC gaming.

Oh and my guess $499 released "worldwide" in November.

I can't believe this has 8000 replies for an announcement of an announcement. PS4 Neo hunger is stronger than I thought :)

TBF about 1/3* of the posts in this thread are from someone who isn't interested in getting a Neo, Jeff Rigby's apprentice and wapplew who seems to be suffering from bipolar disorder when it comes to Neo.

*I haven't checked thread tools to verify this, but Inuhanyou, OnQ & wapplew have made a LOT of the posts in this thread.

With metal year solid V definitive edition released in october it Will have the mandatory neo mode

With the awesome fox engine what can we expect? Is 4K a thing for this game on pc I guess?

Well you're right about #1

icespide and Darklor01 are beating out the other two though (not that this is a race or competition. Please.)

Hey now, I haven't post for 5-8 pages.
Definitely not bipolar, more like Schrödinger's cat, Neo remains both live up to the hype or epic fail until the state is observed at 7th. I'm just happen to be exist in both timeline.

4k60 is hard to achieve on PC. Konami being in charge I bet that Neo mode is going to be nothing but the same game using the higher clocks for more stable framerate.

Maybe they will even worm their way out of having to do a Neo mode because it's a rerelease.

I think people are going to be very disappointed by the pricing. It will have the dev kit leaked specs and will cost $449 or 499. They can charge that much because it will still sell out in November/December as the high end parts will likely be supply constrained. And to achieve the 20 million (or whatever it was) projected sales, they can sell the slim at $250-279 (more likely 279) price range to get more mass market penetration. The Neo price will then probably drop to $399 as part of an E3 announcement or if the sales drop too drastically after Christmas they can drop the price earlier and offer some crap free game as compensation for early adopters.

Why are people pulling specs outta their ass and expecting it to come true? It'll probably be the leaked specs with a minor clock bump come on

I can't wait for Neo release, I'm really hoping it's October.
This time next year I'll have Neo and Scorpio under my TV, great time to be alive in gaming.
I've wanted Sony and MS to follow this iterative console model for years. The 360 and PS3 were on the market far too long.

The only thing that would disappoint me would be the leaked specs at 499€. That would be a little steep.
Would obviously still buy like a dumb ass

Imo, anyone who is expecting it to be above 4.2 TF has set themselves up for disappointment. Especially if the console is releasing in 2016.

Those specs seem completely fine to me as a mid-geb upgrade.

Puma does not support HSA.

Make it a Zen Lite/LP and we have a deal. ;)

It seems that many people care for specs and power than many other people think.
