BioShock: The Collection |OT| Once is not enough.

This time around, I'm not going to shoot that guy as he walks down the stairs in the first game, because I missed out on the last plasmid doing that years ago.

Seriously though this is another game on PS4 where anisotropic filtering is missing

This is the first time I've ever thought it was a problem for me visually

That said overall the Remaster looks fantastic and often they've added good effects

AF is missing from console games in general, not just PS4 titles.

No, it is low on consoles compared to PC but you can see if it is present or not. The lack of it is very obvious here. It's glaring in this case and similar cases have been thoroughly examined by Digital Foundry. Some of them were patched after attention was drawn to it and Sony amended their developer guides to have a more prominent note about checking to make sure AF is not disabled due to oversight in programming for PS4.

stood in a room for a little bit with no enemies, had to go let my dog out, came back and I was dead. Was playing on hard with no vita revives....thats 2 hours back I have to go....god damn it

I forgot how much the gun turrets ruin the experience in 1.

wut

You have like 50 different ways of managing turrets in bioshock and 2. They're like 5,000x more annoying in infinite due to the crap health system and rng medkits.

Yeah they respawn in bio1. Also, pretty sure the game has an autosave function...?

Quick question. How worth it is this collection if I know
about the fact that the guy who helps you actually betrays you, but that's all I know and I never beat the game
and I beat Bioshock Infinite. Still worth it? I know that's kind of relative but looking for opinions nonetheless.
Its number 3 on my top 10 games ive ever played. Ive been playing games for 25 years. Its worth it imo.

Yeah, forgot about that.

I don't know why I did it. I guess I just thought it'd be funny, and it was. But it's not something I would normally do.

you talking about Sander? I think there's an achievement for taking a picture of his corpse if you choose to kill him

Really eager to get this collection. I think I am going to get the physical edition on Amazon with prime though to save some bucks. I havent played any of these games since they came out. About how long does each game take to beat?

So do we have a consensus on which platform is the one to pick it up for? Is PS4 the superior version?

People have said there are some freezing issues on PS4. There was an issue with achievements not working on Xbox, but it was fixed within the first hour. Beyond that I haven't heard much as far as a superior version goes.

Eben though I have all the games on the PC, I am tempted to buy this on PS4- I absolutely love the series and would love to support it. Plus, dat box art.

I have to say: I'm not particularly finicky about effects but the water does seem to be a major step back. Just looks totally flat. Really disappointing, as it doesn't particularly seem like the kind of thing that's fixable

I haven't played bioshock since it's original release and I have to say it's so enjoyable playing through it again with knowing how things play out.

the little bread crumbs they lay out for you are great.

The first game always had a controller option? You had to select it in the options and it all the menu's would change to be like the 360 one.
This is false. Bioshock 1 on PC has controller support. It's in the game's options menu under Customize Controls.

D'oh, you're right. I confused controller support with Steam achievements.

Just picked this up today. I'll get around to it soon. Hoping to actually finish BS 1 & 2 this time.

I'm not fond of BioShock 2 overall, however it has my favourite moment of the entire series. I hate to be vague, but you'll know the one I'm referring to once you reach it.

Are there any screenshots of this floating around? Horribly disappointing if true.

I'll be downloading on Thursday regardless, but I was really looking forward to an excuse to replay this and I probably won't put much time in if it's genuinely worse in this regard. All three titles are among my top 5 favorite gaming experiences, but the PC versions still look really amazing at times.

VG Tech uploaded a video comparing the PS3 and 4 versions. I wouldn't quite say it's a major step back, but the difference is certainly noticeable:

In motion it looks even worse. Not just the lack of water pouring out ofthe top left there, but the surface of the water itself looks vastly less realistic on the ps4 version in that video.

You can SORT of see it in the still it's just not as dramatic, all of the horizontal 'lines' of sudsy water on the surface on the right image look like waves, crashing against the side of the tunnel and everything. The entire surface of the left/ps4 image looks like a flat texture with some bump mapping distorting around. I think it's quite drastic looking.

It's all at 1:30 in that link.

Wow.

Glad I'm getting these for free on the PC after this image of the terrible water.

PC will be the same (most likely). Doubt they have different settings. Could be wrong though. But at least you keep the old version.

Is it me or is the PS4 really missing lots of the atmospheric effects in that side by side? There was the section later where the PS3 had lots of smoke and mist going on, nothing with the PS4.

I wonder what they did the remake in? I remember that Bioshock was Unreal Engine 2.5, not even the ubiquitous 3 of the previous gen.

Maybe they can patch the water. When BioShock first launched on PS3, I raised a shit-storm on the 2K forum about the blurry Big Daddy textures (and other blurry textures), and some time later they patched it.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!

Shit, hate to see stuff like this in a collection I am deliberating purchasing and all signs pointed to this being a definitive release. Minor quibble yes, but its the sort of thing that I won't be able to unsee now and has halted my impulse buy entirely. (Only ever owned the 360 versions, so no free PC update here)

Honestly I don't think the water is that bad. But the total lack of AF on PS4 makes it look like shit sometimes despite all the great updated textures

Amazon updated my order status. They haven't shipped my copy yet, but they're saying that I should be getting it on Monday the 19th :/

I'm pretty bummed out about the downgraded effects, lack of AF and freezing issues. I'd cancel my order, but it's for my girlfriend more than it is for me and she's really looking forward to it. Hopefully they patch it.

Wow, I can't believe they fucked up water in a Bioshock game. This has completely tempered me from "must run out to download it" to "meh, I'll wait till it goes on sale."

Also a bit **salty** that Microsoft published it was coming to backwards compatibility back in November and then never delivered. I bought BioShock 2 digitally because of that promise, even though I don't have a 360 anymore. Learned my lesson.

It's not that bad. Definitely the higher frame rate in general is a big improvement.

I replayed a bit of the PC version on max settings last night, and there are a lot of not so great looking textures and areas. I mean, it's impressive that they were able to pull off that incredible atmosphere at the time but I'm actually looking forward to seeing the updated textures etc when the PC remaster goes live.

I must have played the original Bioshock 7 or 8 times around the time the PS3 version came out. Never bothered with the trophies then, so I never played on the highest difficulty. Do you guys sincerely recommended going survivor difficulty / no Vita Chambers straight up? It's not going to be a nightmare? I want to have a thorough playthrough, and don't want to deliberatly miss content because I'm strapped for resources.

With this in mind -- go for it?

Having a load issue on Bioshock Infinite on X1. It's hanging on load, having to delete local saves - dl from the cloud to resume. Anyone else have this issue?

Side rant, when and why the fuck did devs start getting rid of manual saves? Seems like past few years this is more and more common. If I can't load as mentioned above have to start the fucker over.

Go for it, early on it has an awesome resource managament element to it. It's not that bad in terms if difficulty.

Playing BS1 again, reminds me that this is head and shoulders my favourite game of all time.

Yeah, I recently played Bioshock 1 and Bioshock Infinite back to back on PC and I was really annoyed by Infinite's lack of a manual save option. I had to keep playing until I reached an auto-save point. And the game saves so quickly that you can easily miss the saving indicator. But if you choose to return to the title screen it will tell you when the game last saved.

Little nervous to get this if people are having freezing problems and issues. Also disappointing if it's not at a steady 60 so hopefully more people give us updates. It's a lot of content so I wouldn't be surprised if like others said that it took longer then usual to get a lot of those DF type of websites to break this down

Go for it. Once you get passed the Medical Pavilion, it starts to get easier. Endgame ended up being a cakewalk with the right strategy.

Yes! Survivor is easy (so far, at Apollo Square right now). It's just tough enough without being frustrating. And if you disable the Vita-Chambers, you'll forget they're even a saving device.

Playing on the 360, I only ever got to play it on Hard, so it's pretty cool they added another difficulty.
