As a driver of downtown Toronto I would hate not being able to turn right on red. With pedestrians crossing the street even after the timer goes to 0 there wouldn't be any chance to turn.

downtown intersections should almost universally have both right and left turn arrow signals imo

I wouldn't mind no rights on a red. As a pedestrian I shouldn't have to look to see if somebody isn't even going to bother stopping before making a right turn on a red before I cross, but I do. I'd be dead right now if I didn't.

I know and I do.

Still shouldn't have to deal with right hand turners who only look at the lane they are merging into and nothing else.

I've lost count the number of times they notice me too late and slam on the breaks and freak out. Good think I saw them first or I wouldn't be typing now.

I had the right of way dammit!

You jumped on my car!

This morning, I tried to pay for my bus ride with a token and the damn thing slips out of my hand, does some mesmerizing rolls when it hit the ground, and manages to slip into a crack on the floor of the bus. The bus driver then gave me the most pitiful look and gestures me to move along. I wanted to crawl under a rock and die at that moment.

Also, no more $1 iced coffees at Tims. Fuck that it's still summer dammit!

Reminds me of when I went to put the token in but let go too soon and it flew into the driver's area. We laughed and I was passed through.

It's at the driver's discretion now. They're not supposed to be enforcing fares really. In fact, twice now I've seen some homeless dude just waltz in, give a half hearted explanation only to have that driver say "ok, but if the enforcement officer catches you, you'll be fined".

I've also had a more than normal number of circumstances where the driver refused payment. He'll have his hand over the fare and just tell me to get on or the box is malfunctioning and he'll just say ignore it and pay at the station (chuckles).

...

I with tokens anyways so they already have my money!

Recently went to a manga cafe called AKibA KiSSA at the borders of Toronto at 7634 Woodbine Ave.
I think I went to Anime Heaven for a moment.
Great collection of Manga and drinks. Also has some PS4 Candy Cabinets that have Overwatch and Guilty Gear.
Tooks some pictures of the places if you guys are interested in a Markham Meetup :V
The only downside is that it's $15, but you can stay all day if you wanted.

Took this picture for Duluu13's sake.

Hahaha thanks for the picture. I've actually got that book sitting on my desk at work. It's nice to have the whole manga in one book. I just wish they'd translate the new material (supplementary lessons) already. Currently it's only available online as translated scans.

I bombed my last interview. Really, really hard.

Good luck!

I think I did pretty well in this one. I just wish I had it before the full time one I did last week. The questions were identical except for maybe two of them. So I did much better. Plus one of the candidates didn't show up for the interview. The other one was external (saw him as he left) so this bodes well I think.

They know I applied to the other job anyway and I clarified that I would prefer full time if it came down to a choice between the two. He said that they would back off if I got the other.

Fingers crossed.

How hard is it to get to without a car? The owner recently posted in the Monster Hunter Toronto facebook group inviting us to hunt there. I'm willing to check it out one day but we have our hunter meetups at a public space that's free and close to Union station for easy access.

There is a stop at Woodbine and Steeles using the 53 but after that it's a 22 min walk Straight North using Google Maps. That's the most roughest part of the place.

Who knows if this will arrive on schedule, but I'm reading that by Jan 2018 you should be able to pay your TTC fare by tapping debit/credit cards (!)

So my manager talked to me tonight and apparently I did really well on the interview for the part time position (he didn't do the interview, it was the big boss and hr). He also said the full time hiring manager was impressed by me. Hopefully I get some good news soon.

Just take over your manager's office and say that you're the manager now.

I'm really jelly right now. Be sure to keep in touch with us here and tell us all about your Japanese shenanigans. Part of me still wishes I'd gone through with JET instead of going to Korea.

Thanks guys! I don't want to get my hopes up but it sounds good.

I will admit that I'm a bit paranoid about whether my manager was telling the truth. But that's also because my last manager was huge asshole who was completely unsupportive and made my life hell the last couple of years I worked there.

That was a different company though, no?

I've been somewhat lucky where I've been.
Fantastic positive manager. Not technical but managed people very well. She was so positive and happy that she raised my blood sugar levels...

No manager cause our place is cheap.

A manager in Montreal. I'd say he was more of a close coworker and friend of mine than a manager. Dude knew everything and if he didn't know, he knew where to get the answer. Very hands off.

Another manager in Montreal. Didn't have much contact with her but she was always on her game and didn't interfere when she knew we were doing what we needed.

Very nontechnical manager that isn't a people person but rather a reports, stats, and numbers focused person. Probably would've tracked the steps we took to the washroom for all I know.

Excellent manager in Montreal and my favourite. Nicest, most relatable, knew seemingly everything, great at problem management and really looked out for me (even now despite not being my manager). Pretty big gamer even though we have really different tastes. I got him hooked on Rocket League.

Terrible manager in Montreal who got thrust into the position and knows nothing about what any of us really do. Often clueless and has no direction because he's not familiar with the systems. Last meeting I was in with him, someone was addressing him and asked him what he thought and he said he was doing something else and to just repeat it again.

Pretty decent manager. This guy is smart as hell and actually gives a damn unlike a lot of other people in the company. Hands off and wants to make sure we're doing well. Can't complain bout him.

I haven't had the same manager for two years...and before that I was at different companies so I haven't really had the same manager for two years pretty much my entire work life.

Yep different company. And I will say that I had a couple of truly excellent managers there.

My manager situation the last couples of years that I worked there was a bit complicated in that there was a senior manager and then my manager. My manager was great; it was the senior manager who was the miserable excuse for a human. He eventually became my direct manager. It's funny because I met with my old team for lunch and of the ones who aren't with the company anymore say the same thing as me: if they are pulled aside they immediately think something is wrong, are not used to being supported and second guess some of their actions or how they come across because they were always told everything they did was wrong. All because of that fucktard.

Yes, I'm a bit bitter.

Always heard that you don't leave companies but you leave managers.

Just had the phone interview 5 mins ago. I did my best; I guess all I can hope for now is that it was enough :'(

Please be enough....

My boss is awesome. Like Hank Scorpio awesome.

The CEO balances it out with his, uh, insanity. Case in point, I was laid off in April and I've been extended each month with no signs of stopping...

I would be applying for longer term contracts at other places if I were you.
The secret weapon is BG&E2.

Wish someone would take over my company...and fire all the people at the top.

Edit: mini review of Dragon Quest 7
Obviously the graphics, music, and translation are an upgrade from the PSOne version. The overall speed of the game is faster too and there are some QoL changes and enhancements taken from the previous remakes and from DQ9. I am enjoying it for the stories thus far and I haven't unlocked jobs yet, so I'm not really far into it, but there are still some fucking frustrating ass aspects.

1. Encounters. Sure you "can see them in the map" and generally avoid them, but good fucking luck doing that in a fucking dungeon. God DAMMIT! I wanted to punch my wall. They appear a lot and there were a lot of times where another one would appear RIGHT GODDAMN AFTER! Narrow corridors mean you ain't dodging jack shit either.

2. Battles are very boring and repetitive. This is part of the old school age of JRPGs though and if this is something you like, then power to you. There is too much monotonous "atk all" scenarios and I don't know if there is a button to just make them all goddamn attack but I can't seem to find it and constantly have to select one after the other towards the end of battles. There isn't very much innovation here or excitement that you can find in other battle systems like the excellent Persona/SMT series or my personal fave the Grandia series. For some reason too, despite this remake coming out after DQ9 (which had quite a fast battle system), the batted are achingly slow.

3. Text message speed is too slow. OMG. While I do like the translation and the flavour it gives (even if it can be hard to understand at times), I read quite fast and hate having to wait for the text to end. It just sputters along and I usually get the gist of what they're saying but there is still a delay. Talking to your party members also irritatingly stops you and you have to wait for it to finish. Saving and talking to merchants is also incredibly clunky. Yes, I want to sa-yes, I said I want to sa-for fuck's sake, I want to sa-OMG!

4. Clunky inventory system. This is something I wish they'd taken from the newer games. It's agonizingly slow and boring to swap equipment and items between party members. For any already slow game, I don't want to spend more time in the inventory than necessary.

5. There is a LOT of pop in on the world map. Distractingly so. Again, I wonder why this should be an issue when the maps in general aren't big and they had a lot of time to optimize it and they're full capable of fixing it.

6. I listen to the whole DQ orchestral soundtrack. A. Lot. When I'm not listening to anything in particular, I play the entire catalog. The music here is much better than the PSOne version, but it never reaches the heights of DQ8 on PS2, which has my favourite over world song. The midi here is a very close rendition of the orchestral but I just wish it was better.

7. This one is a bit more of a minor gripe. When you have to talk to the dude to put the map slabs on the maps, it detects your button press which quickly forces you to choose the first area to input a slab, so you have to wait for the menu to pop up before you can select it.

Overall, I still think it's a good game and I know I'm in for a LOOOONGGGG ass complete time too. I just wish they'd optimized it more and made a bit more QoL changes to let me get to the good parts of the game. I like the story and the adventures you go on. I don't want to spend the majority of my time in battles where all I'm doing is the same attack with no regard for anything and an inventory system that would make molasses look like a cheetah. What I wouldn't give for a fast forward option...

Have you seen the Japan travel meetup thread?
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1253412

I realize this might be short notice for Meetup 4 but you should at least try to hit up Meetup 5. I was at Meetup 3 and had a great time. I met three of the people who will be at these meetups (including Mike, who organizes them) and they were all cool.

Not too different from the vibe of Toronto meetups. Since you won't be around for those, I thought you might like to know. Another way to stay in touch with the GAF community while you're in Tokyo.

Hmm

Warm weather or cold weather?
Favourite burger joint?
How much do you hate the TTC on a scale of fuck to fucking fuck?
How much Coors do you have in your fridge right now?
Leafs? Raptors? TFC? Jays? (Pfft...Argos....ummm...Rock..,?)
Do you believe in video or get the fuck out?

Just beware of Kuro, he's a horrible person.
Here, I'll hold this knife for you while you face the other direction.

Light beer? Cmon, we'll leave that shit to the yanks.

And I'll usually go wings over burgers...that might be heresy here though...
