ComicsAlliance: Nine Characters Who Need To Come Out As Bi For #BiVisibilityDay

Article.
Today is Bisexual Awareness Day, the finale of Bisexual Awareness Week. As a bisexual comics fan, I’m always on the lookout for bi characters. It’s exciting how many are official now, like Catwoman, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, and probably some characters who aren’t female Bat-villains as well.

We could certainly use more, though, and there are a lot of established characters who have already been hinted to be bisexual, or who very plausibly could be. So here’s a list of characters who would we’d like to see come out as bi, to their benefit, our benefit, and the benefit of the companies that publish them.

For those that don't want to read the article and see the reasons for each:
  • Storm
  • Hercules
  • Wonder Woman
  • Jimmy Olsen
  • Namor
  • Robin(Tim Drake)
  • Black Canary
  • Betty Cooper
  • Kitty Pryde

Sort of surprised at them choosing Tim over Jason.

I see no ice man. Making ice man gay and not bi was such a mistake. You could've had the same type of charecter arc without invalidating his previous relationships.

I disagree with the premise that characters need to declare this unless it has some bearing on their character arcs or their current ongoing stories.

Y'all need to live Tim alone, just because he had some intense sexual tension with Kon doesn't mean there's anything there.

Bobby needs to be there though.

It was deep friendship, fam. Brotherly almost.

I don't know, both he and Cassie seemed like they were down to share Conner.

I definitely agree with Wonder Woman and, maybe, Namor. I don't know enough about him, but he seems down to get his when he isn't lusting after Sue.

I feel this is kind of weird that people are compiling a list of random characters.

That being said, why Tim? We have a perfectly good Jason.

Well, that's just stupid.

The same people who refused to put a label on Angela being gay while she was in a relationship with another woman.

But in an interview with Comic Book Resources, Marvel Editor-In-Chief Axel Alonso seemed reluctant to confirm Angela as a LGBTQ+ character despite the aforementioned awesome smooching:

CBR: The issue also confirmed the romantic relationship between Angela and Sera, something that had been speculated about by fans. So is it accurate to say that Angela is the first gay or bisexual lead character in the All-New, All-Different Marvel era?

Alonso: That’s a question for readers to ponder and answer for themselves. We’re not looking to put labels on the character or the series. We’d prefer that the story Marguerite, Kim and Stephanie are telling — all aspects of it — speak for itself.

Had no problem openly saying Bobby was gay.

Where has it ever been hinted Storm is bisexual?

And honestly, that list seems incomplete without Tony stark. He has always come across as someone who would mess with dudes for the fuck of it.

Furthermore, where is Starfox?

storm being at the top is a bit of a stretch because she's been attached to quite a few men in her character history. Is there even an alternative universe version of her that is Bisexual?

As I’ve discussed before, there’s simply no way to come out of Paradise Island and be straight

What the what, that isn't how sexuality works.

"Maybe i'm bi"

"They say everyone is. But I think you're more... full gay"

It was such a poorly done story and reveal. Made no sense either.

Would it really have hurt them to make him bisexual instead of saying all his MANY hook-ups with women over the decades were a lie? Even if he was gay, that story was so insulting and made me hate Jean Grey for just outing him like that.

Bobby's absence from the article makes it an instant throwaway.

More than just...because, that character sort of needs to be Bi on just a narrative level.

Also, fuck you Bendis. And fuck Jean Grey. And double fuck you Bendis for making me dislike Jean Grey so much.

Fuckin' Bendis.

Are there bi characters in Wicked + Divine? Or is this only looking at DC/Marvel exclusively?
Several; Baal for example. Heck, maybe most of them. But this article is looking for "newsworthy" reveals in which originally straight characters come out as bi, hence DC/Marvel and Archie rather than lesser-knowns.

I don't know what world you live in, but in mine, it's been obvious for a while Wonder Woman is bisexual at the very least. For more, check out Wonder Woman Earth-One.
I take it they're looking for obvious declarations of bisexuality, like the character bluntly stating that they are bisexual or proving it with a moment similar to...

Is this one of those "We don't read comics, but we want them written the way we want" things?

Seems that way.

The Storm, Betty, Tim, Kitty, and Wonder Woman entries are the more egregious examples.

I've never thought of Storm as bi but apparently everyone reading comics has for years according to this.

Alternate continuity.

Correct. It is also not a very good way to exhibit a bisexual character, aside from, you know, showing them being bisexual.

It's no more "authentic" in mainline continuity because it would still be hamfisted.

Aside from some odd suggestions like Jimmy, the autor seems to think that millenials are more likely to be LGBT than the previous generations. That... sounds a bit odd. Less likely to be in the closet, sure, but thats a different argument.

Does the storyline about Tony's sentient suit being completely obsessed with him count?
That was an..uh, interesting comic.

Spiderman did it first with the symbiote. Peter got it to leave Brock one time by saying he loved it. Wait that happened after Ironman
