NX fan concept art thread

According to the combined dreams of some BRGAFfers, the Nintendo NX will feature:

  • a HMD where you can insert the display if you want to
  • detachable controllers, whether you're using the HMD or not
  • pack-in: Virtual Mario Snowstorm, featuring a realistic fatigue system for trudging across the snow with our moustachioed plumber
  • preorder bonuses: a Boca Juniors soccer jersey (hi, Argentinian neighbors!), an alfajor and a box of laxatives
I'll leave the visual mockup to someone else, if that's the case. Amaze us.

F**k all the rumors, something like dekavita + pstv is what NX should be for me
modding_dekavita7.jpg

for those who don't know what i'm talking about:

-PSTV: home version of vita, no screen, it's the white box in the pictures, you plug it to a tv and use ps3 and ps4 gamepads to play

-dekavita 7: a handheld accessory that transforms the pstv in a handheld, 7 inches 720p screen, it also can be used alone as a gamepad

no nonsense uncomfortable detachable controllers, if you want to play offline multiplayer use full comfortable gamepads with nx attached to a tv.

Imagine a form factor like the GPD XD on the left:

With a detachable hinge like:

With the bottom half of the device operating as a traditional controller (imagine lines down the middle that could potentially separate it into two controllers:

And the top half being inserted into a dock with HDMI out:

To solve potential weight problems, the GPU and battery can be placed in the bottom half of the clamshell, since when the top half is detached the CPU can use the GPU in the TV-out dock.

....idk, it's a dream

That's what I want, and the most logical solution, two detachable controllers on the sides look bad :(

Whatever the NX is, I sure hope there's more color options than just black or white this time. That red DSiXL (and the red Wii) looks way too good to keep as a one-time limited color.

As for a clamshell design, though I'd love it, I'm skeptical it'll be kept.

Yeah, when I first heard hybrid/docking console this is what I thought too.

DS style clamshell handheld. Detachable similar to MS Surface. And then you have a small NES-ish style pad with analog sticks for home use.

Its all recognizable and easily explained and understood. Commercials would be simple.

And obviously you could sell NX Pro Controllers with proper, more ergonomic handles for more comfort for at home play.

But hearing about two piece controllers that breaks off both sides of the unit just sounds way to clunky and complicated. I don't konw how that makes an adequate portable nor a satisfying controller.

But I still have hope that Nintendo can deliver a good product.

RE: San Sebastian

I think maybe vertical screen modes would still remain to give it that DS feel. The vertical screen showed more and made things feel huge on a small mobile.

This would be great. Have all the processing in the removable part that can be docked to play on TV, then the controller/screen part becomes like the Wii u controller.

Nintendo would never do this. It will give people the idea that new nds have only 1 screen.

It's bad marketing

That I know, I'm hoping if they do go with the clamshell, they draw people's attention to the detachable-and-plug-into-dock aspect, kind of like how transforming laptops have grown popular.

Honestly I'm concerned about the portability and sleekness of the device more than its raw power, I'm sure Nintendo can pull it off regardless of the form factor, but I guess all anyone can do is wait.

7" screen is way too big for me, I would prefer something like 5" and more portability. Anyway will be fun see who guessed right when NX will be revealed.

The nice thing about that Pittree is that it includes a mobile-style screen layout. I would honestly be shocked if the screen format wasn't essentially a mobile phone in landscape for console games, and portrait for all the mobile games they want.

What I don't like is the inverted stick and buttons. Should be the same. I know you're worried about rotation, but if they're rectangular (NES CONTROLLER STYLE) then they could be turned either way and work fine.

IGN Image viewer is pretty crappy and some people were interested in giving a better look at my updated mockup so here it is:
That's... really nice? What's going on here?

The biggest logistical issue I see with the detachable controllers (in all concepts, not yours in particular) is having a satisfying analog stick sit directly above a trigger with decent travel.

Good looking mockup - I imagine the left hand buttons will be a D-Pad though... or maybe switchable between buttons and a D-Pad. I honestly think the final thing will look similar.

This looks way better than controllers that attach on the sides.

Or just make the same exact 3DS form and let people remove a screen to use for either mobile gaming or console controlling. Both top and bottom screen can be a touch device.

This is probably the best idea, if you want to sell this product to regular people. Most of the concepts in this thread are ugly, bulky, and probably intimidating to someone who might be more comfortable with their phone than traditional gaming.
I the the regular size 3DS, with removable bottom half would be the best. Top could be more like a phone, bottom more like a "gameboy".

Either that or have Apple design the hardware. :p (I can dream.)

For Nintendo's sake, I really hope their idea is way better than the concepts in this thread.

How is this the first time I've heard of this?
