Kotaku Sources: Destiny 2 coming to PC [UPDATE: Loads of extra info]

Bungie is Shinobi

Has there been a case where there are more PC players than PS4 or XB1 in a multiplayer game other than Overwatch?

I have no clue to be honest. I think console players would be larger than PC players.

PC or bust!

Peer pressure from GAF is the worst! It is tempting. What would sell me on double dipping if Destiny could have your account swap from PC to console. (I'm not sure if this is doable in Overwatch)

It seems crazy that they haven't locked whether characters transfer over or not. Seems like so many things would be affected by that

-Story
-quests
-pvp
-loot design
-everything in D1 being compatible in D2

And probably a thousand other things.

Um

WoW does the same thing each expansion. They have been for the past 10 years. The problem in this case isnt Bungie "making players lose their progress." Its the players expectations.

For example, Ive been levelling my Warlock in WoW, and Ive been replacing gear I got from raids with greens. And you know what? That isnt Blizzard telling me "those hours of progress you made is rendered useless."

Bungie HAS to do the same thing, or else their game will face stagnation. Like I mentioned earlier, people talk about a gun named "Hung Jury" thats a year old.

Like...whats the point of Bungie creating new content if players will just stay with the old stuff? If I had my way, I would still be using Tarecgosas staff in WoW. But the fact is, I spent hundreds of hours getting it almost 5 years ago, and you know what? I dont feel like Blizzard is taking away my hours spent progressing, nor do I feel spite for it.

Its on the player. You shouldnt expect to be able to use your old gear 2 years into a game, nor should Bungie feel the need to compensate for that.

Im glad Luke Smith is lead designer on it, seeing as he used to be a hardcore WoW raider way back when. He knows how the genre works, and one of those things is that there has to be a moment where you leave the old behind.

Like you said, maybe the genre isnt for you. Thats fine. But Destiny is trying to be that type of genre. And there are things that come with being that.
Good post, but it is a bit different. Here is why.

Early on in Vanilla Destiny, RNG was effing real. At most...MOST you got 3 nightfalls and 3 raids. (that's if you were running 3 characters). Plus the coveted exotics were powerful as fuck. IceBreaker and Gally fundamentally changed the way you played the game.

Some folks got Gally and Icebreaker early...Rendering them guardian gods. Others chased these weapons for a year.

This was EXCEEDINGLY disrespectful of a players time. One dedicated player could be out gunned by one luckly player in just a single night.

As such, I can see the attachment to weapons being MUCH stronger when you know it was damn lucky to begin with.

Granted this changed with TTK and now ROI, but I think that sentiment is coming from scarred and abused year 1 players (and we were....we were abused).

I think the implementation of the quests for exotics is MUCH more respectful. A player can simply make the decision to grind it out or not (even those sword quests). Dedicated players would be rewarded.

Nobody wants to get on the lucky drop for exotics that are required to LFG or damn near essential to be a powerful guardian train. Nobody.

Since they're going PC, it's mandatory that they make it 60fps on consoles. The game will feel too different/superior on PC if the console versions are still 30fps.

Honestly thats just the design of exotics tbh. Some were broken, some were not. Gjally and Icebreaker fundamentally broke the games in their own ways, and they were unhealthy to the game.

The way to rectify this is to not have broken exotics drop so easily. As for being geared up, having a way to gear up consistently is important. Having time to do it is also important. People rushed to get raid ready for RoIs raid, and thats part of the problem(but a different issue).

How loot is handled is subjective tbh. Personally Id love a whole menagerie of broken exotics that would make the game fun.

Yeah, I never had any doubt it wouldn’t be coming to PC. One of the biggest things holding it back was the 360 and PS3. Now that those are finally dropped we can actually see what Bungie can do. I’m pretty excited for D2. I don’t play Destiny anymore, but I did put hundreds of hours into it and I enjoyed it. So I’ll definitely be picking this up on PC.

Been waiting for this to get back into Destiny.

60fps Destiny.......yes please!

Please no. Destiny is one of the best playing shooters ever made. Going sixty would completely change the feel of the game and it doesn't need to be changed. Use that power for scale, AI and interactivity. Sixty is pointless in a game that already plays as well as Destiny does.

even after all the massive improvements Destiny still feels like patchwork of a better game. a ground-up do over could be absolutely godly if they do it right this time

We as in Bungie or we as in Shinobi? Please say both. You'd be my most favorite Gafer ever.
Lol thanks, but that was just a typo. Should say "they".

Also, for people questioning whether or not Sony gets rights to further Destiny perks - the deals they have signed are practically for the lifetime of the franchise. Sony is all over that, and will be for the foreseeable future. Expecting Sony to not have some sort of exclusivity on some content is almost foolish at this point.

That isn't to say it'll be strikes or anything. They could be purely cosmetic going forward. But Sony wants the PS4/Pro to be the best place to play Destiny for, well, for as long as possible really. They like treating it like a 1st-party release, they're all in on the sequel. It obviously renews every year, but right now Sony is super vested in Destiny.

I hope they make the lore more like Dark Souls you can see they had the idea with grimoire cards. Just take the cards and put them into amour and weapons descriptions to make the universe feel more connected.

I wonder if it will sell poorly on PC, since it is a console-first shooter. Also the PC community may disappear in a month.

This importing of characters talk is absolutely absurd. Assuming you consider Destiny an MMO-lite experience or anything close to it then why would you ever expect to keep the same character? What other MMO does this in a legit numbered sequel? Not Guild Wars, not Final Fantasy, not Everquest.

Fresh start for a fresh game. It is in no way fair for Destiny 1 players to enter into Destiny 2 with any gear, exotics, advantage of any sort over new players. At most the look of the character and maybe your current armor could be imported cosmetic only. Everything else needs to be dropped. This is a completely new game where as Taken King and Rise of Iron are expansions. Yeah you should value your thousand hours but those were for Destiny 1 not Destiny 2, they shouldn't benefit you at all outside of a thanks for playing our first Destiny experience emblem or skin.

That's what I felt playing Destiny up to TTK; and to a degree still do.

Anyhow all of this is great news. Hoping that Saturn (and some of it's moons) aren't the only space though. Europa please.
I believe what they designed for Europa eventually became Hyperion.

I guess they broke the game, but they broke it in such a great way. Much of the reason to play in Vanilla was to either try and get these guns for yourself or for someone in your party. We don't get any reaction videos like we did when guardians got their fatebringer or Gjally. It was something you let all of your fireteam friends know about once you got that magic roll. And then playing with those guns was god-tier gaming. Fatebringer is still my favorite gun ever made in a game. I have a character I continue to delete just to make Fatebringer relevant as I level up.

The Icebreaker and Gjally generation was my most favorite time in Destiny. Year 1 was all about a few guns which made you OP but it also made the game exciting and social in a weirdly awesome way.

Honest question (I've played every expansion, hell I've pre-ordered all destiny content that's existed) has any weapon or armor come close to the feeling you got when you rolled that one exotic you had been coveting for months during vanilla?

It's a shooter that's heavy on loot and social elements, and has quest design from MMOs. It's going to do fine provided they don't do something stupid like lock it to 30 FPS or have the worst port in the world.

it's given PC will have the smallest community. but i don't see how it would sell anymore "poorly" than any other multiplatform FPS (where PC generally \rakes in ~25% of sales)

The fuck are you even talking about

I was really considering getting into destiny. With Destiny 2 coming to pc I will just hold out and wait for it. Don' fuck up the pc version bungie.

I've seen those areas, played the raids and the strikes a million times.

I just finished 3 quest in ROI to get 3 exotic guns I already had.

If I pop in Destiny 2 and see a fucking Gjallarhorn I'll throw up.

I'm soooooo done with it.

Everything new! Everything fresh!

THATS exciting.

Sorry to hear that, but, I don't see how thats anyone's problem...

Its a loot game, I thought we all knew the deal.

I too want a fresh, new game. But unless Bungie can give us a sequel with as much content as the sum total of what Destiny Year 3 is offering (I DOUBT THAT VERY MUCH) I really don't see why they can't replicate old areas with a brand new engine.

But like Shinobi was saying, introducing the older areas slowly through the scope of the newer ones.

More game is better than less,
