Gary Johnson could not name his favorite foreign leader

I think this goes to show that, while I don't necessarily disagree about heard more sides than just the two main parties, it's stuff like this that shows how they really aren't worth listening to at the end of the day. Maybe one day, but definitely not now.

I can't really think of any foreign leader I would definitively call my 'favorite'. Like I can give you a list of names and probably their relationship to America as well as some other tidbits, but what exactly am I supposed to be evaluating when it comes to favorite? What would Hillary's answer be? I can also certainly give you a list of leaders I strongly dislike. Is that bad? Who is your 'favorite' and why?

Who has a favorite foreign leader? I don't understand why that thought would ever cross someone's mind in the first place.

"Name one foreign leader you respect" is a pretty above-board question.

Obama and Trudeau obviously are buds, just like Bush and Blair, Reagan and Thatcher, FDR and Churchill, etc.

It's not unusual for presidents to find counterparts they like to work with.

This isn't just someone, this is someone running for office that will be dealing with other foreign leaders. You'd think he could at least name one off the top of his head. But he couldn't even hit that dirt low bar.

He literally could have said anything other than what he said and it would have been ok.

Even Trump would say "Putin" or "that new Prime Minister in England, that lady", anything.

I mean, Weld quickly had an answer (even if it was a recently deceased one).

I'll just quote myself from the bottom of the previous page.
a) He could opt to argue no one really satisfies his standards.

b) He could just pick a leader and say he only respects a couple of their qualities/policies.

c) He could freeze like a deer in headlights and then randomly agree with names provided by the people in his immediate vicinity without being able to expand on why those leaders are respectable to him.
It's really not that hard, but he managed to bungle it as much as possible.

All he had to do was say, "Off the top of my head, I can't think of any foreign leader I agree with enough to name."

You know, bad press for the Libertarian party makes me even happier than when the GOP gaffes (which is often). Gary Johnson is a bad candidate with a bad platform.

A random person, no. A person running to be President of the United States? Yes, I would certainly expect them to have a favorite foreign leader. That is, someone they want to emulate and follow in the footsteps of, who's potentially a source of inspiration for them, and who they feel is doing a particularly good job for some reason or another and wants to do the same type of thing for his or her own country that that leader is doing for their own.

If there's really no one that comes to mind, than why exactly did you get into politics, why do you care about winning election and what you really do if elected if you can't name so much as one person that invokes that type of response from you? What really makes such a person get into politics in the first place, what's driving them and what do they care about, and why should people elect them in that case, especially to an office that foreign policy is a large and unavoidable part of, as compared to the many offices where it isn't? It's just bizarre and makes no sense for someone running for the office of President of the United States or to be the head of state of any nation to have no answer to a question like that.

The question that immediately followed was "who is your favorite Supreme Court justice." Johnson got bailed out by Weld answering the question first (and then Johnson repeated the same name) (it was Kennedy, incidentally).

Most people would have difficulty choosing one.

Gary Johnson has trouble naming one.

If we limit it to currently in power, i kinda doubt that'd be the case.

Or at least that it wouldn't be easy to criticize any of the "safest" answers like, say, merkel.

Opening it up to people no longer in power, tho? Yeah, dead easy, and several choices.

People are going to vote for this guy because he isn't Trump and isn't Hillary but he's worse and people are just not aware.

To be fair, I'd expect them to have role models, but those people don't have to be foreign or leaders.

I like this "ask Gary Johnson basic civics question" game.

Please somebody ask him "who wrote the federalist papers"?

Just name a foreign leader. ANY foreign leader from ANY country. Just name ONE.
