I saw the first ANAD SamCap trade today. I absolutely love that it's called "Not My Captain America". I had to hide the laughter.
I think there's only one trade out atm.

I need to give Sam Wilson another shot. I loved the first couple issues but then I seem to remember suddenly hating the next couple.

That IS cheap. Is Savage Dragon supposed to be legitimately good, or know? I know nothing of the book/character outside of what the main character looks like.
Yeah, but when I would want to read Captain Falcon I want to read it since he got the Shield from Cap
It picks with the Standoff issues and continues to be quality afterwards.

Favourite writer of the moment: John Arcudi. Writes one of the best ongoing image books right now, and he's been indispensable as the writer of BPRD for years. Quietly writes some of the best comics month after month.

Give yourself a few days to enjoy the first half and appreciate the decent job Bendis is doing before you read the catastrophic #5.
Also consider some of the best tie-ins: Sam Wilson Cap, Ms. Marvel, Spider-Man. Good deeper cuts: Power Man and Iron Fist, Mockingbird, Spider-Woman, Ultimates. A few of those will hopefully keep you interested when the event nosedives

I've not read that far into Low, admittedly, but Tokyo Ghost and Devolution were duds in my book. That's just two books man :|
Also, Fear Agent and Uncanny X-Force are two of my all time faves...

Scalped, Vol 2: Casino Boogie
[5/5]: Wow. Aaron's just doing so many things with this comic that I'm simply in love. It feels like a TV show with the way Aaron manages to effortlessly juggle around so many view points. But what impresses me is that they all manage to be pretty compelling. I think much of it is down to how this entire volume was structured.
The alternative would've been the perspectives without a clear end goal, leaving the reader sort of aimless as to their purpose.
Great art and coloring of course, but the positioning of the scene given all the context we were given via other perspectives... it was just masterful.

But what impresses me is that they all manage to be pretty compelling. I think much of it is down to how this entire volume was structured.
Despite many of the events taking place before the death of Dash's mom last volume, that event became an intriguing enough catalyst that Aaron used it to setup several different perspectives without slogging down the pacing down.
I also enjoyed how much this volume humanized Red Crow. Now, about the only character that feels one dimensional in his portrayal is the FBI leader-prick. Red Crow also had my favorite scene in the entire volume: the one where he gives cash to Poor Bear.

Purple Man is some MRA dude and Jessica is a victim and Jessica is all "fuck you bro!" And Purple Man starts dabbin.
And I have finished Simonson Thor. That was enjoyable, though often a bit too wordy for my personal tastes. But a lot of fun, crazy arcs, and plenty to love there. I really could see the Surtur stuff making a great movie. Like, (if the movies were awesome enough to include such a character), do the Bill introduction the same with that great slow build-up of the sword being forged, then I guess pick something for a middle arc there as things start to heat up (though presumably not directly the stuff from that part of the comics, as admittedly none of that would probably fit so well), and then end on that crazy final battle that already feels tailor made for a Marvel movie.
Other thoughts: wow, the art suddenly improved in the Jormungand battle. Like, in the issue before he looks like kind of crap generic dragon, and then all the sudden it's freaking amazing artwork. Also, if nothing else, all the Thor I read convinces me that I would totally read a Volstagg series. He's generally pretty great, especially for a guy who's so tailor made for just slinging fat jokes at (which he still gets, but his character fairs surprisingly well in spite of that). Also, I really like the Hela costume as it is in this series, with that absolutely crazy cloak.
Unrelated topic: How does one best approach Astro City nowadays, and is it indeed worth picking up? I already purchased a ton from the Vertigo sale (because HOLY CRAP at those prices, especially for series like Y The Last Man and Preacher that already had nice cheaper collections on Comixology), so I'm not sure I will dive in either way, but yeah, the whole thing seems a tad messy as to how I should be picking it up.

) that's awesome man, I was kind if wondering how you would take the pacing of the volume given that it doesn't really progress THE big thing from volume 1 but I totally agree, it is like a good tv show, or a good book. There's a lot of stuff going on in vol 1 but vol 2 is where Aaron sits back and gets comfortable in the seat after spending the whole of the first volume typing away on the edge. Character first storytelling at its best, and it's worth it to get you invested in all this disparate viewpoints as they converge, both now and in a broader way as the series goes on. Also yea, Red Crow is honestly a very compelling guy as you start to see his layers peeled back. Also a huge strength of Southern Bastards, giving the quote unquote villains time be much much more. Glad your enjoying it as you get to it anyway man, I actually was going to say Jason Aaron for favourite writer earlier but with the Goddamned still not in trade, thought I'd hold off and give someone else the nod. Dude is a really great writer though. Scalped and The Other Side were the first things I read by him and he's never disappointed since.
