4chan in trouble - Martin Shkreli wants to be the new moot

4chan has been the only place I've found to have fairly active .hack threads, when they do pop up, and they always have great discussion. I'd miss that if anything were to happen.

I, again, cannot believe that so many adults would admit to reading and being emotionally invested in 4chan.

I don't see why not? There are so many boards and communities on the site. It's only the bad ones that people who don't visit the site hear about.

It irks me when people say this about Reddit, too. There are communities for both extremes of a discussion, and then there's the communities in between.

It's like writing off the entire Facebook community because something your aunt posted.

It does not surprise me at all at how many people here don't see the value of 4chan, but I am happy at seeing that there is a bunch that do.

Also this is the kind of thing I've feared since moot sold it. I really hope nothing drastic happens to my home. :c

Kinda surprised at the amount of (pre-qualified) love 4chan is getting from folks in this thread. Did they turn a corner in the past four years or something? I remember my 4-6 years on /v/ being filled with misogyny and thinly veiled otaku pedophilia. Where is everyone having all these great discussions at? I'd seriously love to know.

I have a hard time believing that 4chan's gotten better in a world where a fucking meme frog for fourteen year olds got labelled as a hate symbol by the SPLC this past month.

/v/ is still generally shitty outside of more focused threads. Despite GG discussion being banned, there's still a lot of diablosing about social justice which makes the board unreadable. I spend most of my time on /m/.

I don't think anyone here has said 4chan has gotten /better/. It's just that it's a very unique site, for better or worse. I will openly and freely admit that it spawned many absolutely terrible communities (the alt-right for instance) yet at the same time I can site many anecdotes from my own personal life and others that I've met about the positive effect the unique qualities 4chan has had on our lives.

This. I met several friends I've known for eight years or more through the use of 4chan, most of them from the early days of /jp/.

In fact, I asked if I could be roommates with one when I went abroad and I ended up living at their place for a year and a half while I got my year-long Masters program done, he turned out to be an awesome guy in real life as well.

Are you sudo or arc or sion?

mootles save us

I, again, cannot believe that so many adults would admit to reading and being emotionally invested in 4chan.

4chan is infested with some of the worst of humanity, but it's also the only place with worthwhile discussion of various niche topics(roguelikes, tabletop roleplaying, etc), and more importantly, it provides a safe space for people who don't fit in anywhere else*.

*I am referring to the socially awkward foreveralones, not the pedophiles and bigots

I'm surprised 4chan has anything respectful to say about the LGBT community.
There is a significant LGBT presence on the site, and not just restricted to the /lgbt/ board. For example, the traditional games board, /tg/, often affectionately refers to itself as /totally gay/ and will shout down homophobic posters or kill them with kindness.

It is paradoxically both a disgustingly bigoted and infinitely accepting website.

Shkreli would be the kind of guy who would erase the site and redirect it to FBI.gov or something.

Mostly this is my reaction to that kind of situation:

Wasn't that guy an asshole featured on the news? I can't exactly remember, will google search later. More importantly, I hope nothing gets the axe. Honestly can be a great place for discussion.

Thats always been regulated to /b/, it's just an old rule. Ponies are also only allowed on /b/ and /mlp/ right?

Ponies aren't even supposed to be allowed on /b/ anymore, at least that was the "rule" last time I was relatively active and that was just after the mlp board got opened.

uhm

'Traps' as they call em. This permeates across all boards.

I know all three, but I still talk to sion daily. I rarely ever used a name on the site itself so unless you were an IRC user you wouldn't know me by name.

The /jp/ irc was terrible but lol Sion.

Memories....... . . . .

I vote for shitty ads: pop-unders and pop-overs and malicious ads too.

If people can't work out they need to PAY for a service they love and use regularly, and further, if they want to run adblockers to remove all site revenue options completely, then the site should be shuttered. and the angry regulars should learn something from this. Stop making a minority pay for the majority of freeloaders.

.....Trap threads.......are you serious?...................

>_>

Trap isn't exactly an inclusive statement..........

Understandable. On a related note, there's something to be said about the amount of gay people on 4chan that refer to themselves by common slurs, including that one, posting pictures of themselves with the face cut out. Degrading terms are sexually arousing for some people, so I can see why people would call themselves that.

/pol/ is a racist cesspool. I wouldn't mind it being closed, but that'll just make them go to other boards. They'll probably go to /b/, which is good for me since that board is also a cesspool.

Right up until they just infest other boards. Keep them going in their own little worlds, everyone is safer that way.

They're already going to the other boards, they just don't usually spam them with shitposting. It's not like people in /pol/ don't have interests in video games or anime.

People forget that Bloodborne's early footage and general leak was from /v/ and reposted here. Project Beast and all that.

Also some other genuine leaks. Just close Pol and reduce img upload size for certain boards. 4chan is needed so that all that fuckery on the Internet is there.

People, we need leave /mu/ behind at this point. /mu/ is a mess. When /mu/ posts their threads, they're not posting their best. They're posting their k-pop generals, their Jason Aldean memes, their pleb/patrician shitposting. And some of them, I assume, are good threads.

It's a strange board because on one hand you can find some genuinely obscure and great music, and on the other hand you have this constant supply of kpop fanatics who consume half of all discussion. It's a shame.

Did the /pol/ spillover stop at least?

Well, gay men aren't trans (generally speaking unless they're a transman who is gay of course)......trap is just an insulting slur that's typically aimed towards the trans community. It's degrading us and regaling the old "joke" about how transwomen are out to deceive men. It's not really sexually appealing to be called a trap.....it's really really not.
