Videogame facts that blow your mind (SuperMarioBros. SHOCKING SECRET INSIDE p #70)

That's a really cool one. Wonder who discovered it

I was streaming this and having chat make me do silly things, and I already had a bottle of Forest Water, so they said Kalle Demos looked thirsty and should get a drink XD

That was on the third cycle and at the time I was convinced that I had stabbed it after watering, but that was not the case. The next day, I recorded this video to test, and it was indeed a thing.

[Pokemon gym leaders stuff]

Pokemon X/Y make it even more clear.

Korrina sends weaksauce pokemon in her gym leader battle, but when you get your mega she sends a lucario that you can't actually beat.

Later in the game you can face all the gym leaders randomly in the Battle Chateau, and they will have stronger pokemon than their gym battles (except for Wulfric, i think), similarly the opposite happens with the Elite 4, since in the battle chateau you're just battling for fun, they actually send pokemon weaker than their Elite 4 Battles.

In Zelda: Wind Waker, the Forest Haven boss can be killed in one hit if you drop Forest Water on it.

The fact that the image of Krystal is no longer viewable in the OP disappoints me

WOAH
That's an incredibly cool easter egg for Nintendo to put in the game. Super specific way of beating the boss no one would normally think of. And yet it makes a slight degree of sense. That's kinda rad.

Can we be sure it's intentional?

what the FUCK

Speedrunners are going to have a field day with this one.

Speedrun kills it even quicker, using bombs. And it would waste a lot of time to have a bottle by that point in the run. I'm only familiar with the GC run, but I assume the same is true in the HD version.

If you hold the attack button to kick and hit a potted plant in Dead Rising, Frank will hold his foot and hop like in a cartoon.

Also, Jet Moto was apparently just a standard motorcross game at one point.

Somebody posted this on an Easy Allies YouTube video, but Donna Burke, the singer of the MGSV theme is also does the English announcements on the Japanese Shinkansen (bullet train).

That might have been why they had her do the iDroid notifications as well.

Its amazing to me that a new find like the Wind Waker boss can still happen. I would have imagined a look around the games data would have found that shortcut before. But I don't know much about how that all works. Anyway, truly amazing find.

This sort of shit is why I never delete my subscription to this thread; after we go through months of "hey, this song from [x] was used in game [y]!" nonsense, it always comes back to deliver something mindblowing.

I mean... when working with such a limited sound chip, I'm sure a LOT of things sound similar if you adjust the speed and pitch.

No. Music doesn't work that way. It has nothing to do with the limitations of the sound chip. It has to do with something called "themeing".
Banjo-Kazooie has it too. There are several variants of any particular level theme to fit the different situations. For example Treasure Trove Cove has a variant for being on land, being near Capt. Blubbers ship, being inside the seashell, being underwater and being in the sand castle.
Every variant has the exact same melody, but the instruments, speed and sometimes pitch are changed to fit the mood of the particular place you are in.

Super Mario Bros. using the same 24 (I think) note melody for collecting a power-up and ending a level are a more primitve form of this. But it has nothing to do with limitations. It's a choice.

I was playing Barbie Puppy Rescue today and I learned that Barbie has a last name. I had no idea.

It's Roberts btw.

That's not the first time they're doing this... For example, the Maridia Boss in Super Metroid is killed instantaneously if you use the grappling beam on the electric devices when he bites you.

I also love how Squaresoft put an undead as the Final boss of Final Fantasy Mystic Quest... And Cure DOES work on him... killing the first two forms with a single Cure, and the last two with two more.

It's not instantaneous and it does considerable damage to Samus in the process, but it's still pretty damn quick.

I'd heard how easy mode Mystic Quest was, but come the fuck on now... Seriously?

Someone needs to make a youtube video of Nintendo bosses that can be secretly killed in 1 hit.

We have Draygon from Super Metroid, which can be electrocuted for an easy win.
Naval Piranha from Yoshi's Island which can be killed before the battle even starts.
And now that boss from Wind Waker.

There has to be others.

Love stumbling onto stuff like that. I remember having trouble with the final boss in Final Fantasy Tactics. Started trying all sorts of different abilities and found that Drain does massive damage to him. Managed to finish him off in a handful of turns.
