I'm not getting one this year but I must say it's an exciting time to be playing video games.

One could say that there has never been a better time.

It's going to be an amazing time. I have waited many, many years for VR and obsessed over the concept when I was a kid. Even though it's isn't graphically there, it's going to be an unforgettable gaming experience. I can easily say that when I tried VR for my first time (Played multiple demos on PSVR), it was one of my top three gaming experiences in my entire 20+ years of being a gamer. I just hope it succeeds and more people are able to try it out down the road.

At first, when they announced stock was gonna be low, I felt like it would be forever to find one in stock. I know that I'm probably setting myself up for disappointment, but I've been feeling more and more confident that I'll be able to secure one on Thursday after the initial early morning rush. But, that's probably my excitement for PSVR getting in the way of reality. I really wish they'd have a way to reserve post-launch units, meaning they would hold one aside for you as new stock arrives (provided all those that pre-ordered already received there's). It'd be much more convenient than going store to store in search of stock. I remember having to do that for PS3 in 2006. Though, the feeling of being in GameSpot at my mall as the UPS guy was delivering new PS3's to the store was a wonderful one. When I went to buy a PS3, they asked how many I wanted. In fact, my search for PS3 is how I discovered Kotaku. They had an article about a stock tracker for PS3 and Wii. I had never heard of Kotaku before then.

Plenty of stock will be available. My Target has 2, Best Buy has 5 and GameStop has 4 regular and 4 launch bundles. I live in a small city in Ohio, so that should say something. Call your local place and ask about how many they are getting, because Sony said in their Ultimate FAQ that there will be extra stock on launch day for non-preorders.

I assume a lot of it will be sold during the early morning hours. I'm not going to a midnight opening (we have no 9PM openings on the East Coast). I'm hoping there will be stock remaining at 10-11 AM, when I'd most likely be able to get there (I think Best Buy will be the best chance for me).

Ended up canceling my preorder. I'm confident about the hardware being great, but the games are just not there yet.

I'll jump back in whenever Farpoint, GTS and AC7 are all out.

I'm really trying to decide if I'm going to wait on VR. I've been super excited about VR for a while now, but I just have concerns about the hardware and adoption rate even thought there's a few games I want to play at launch. Need to decide if I want to keep my preorder soon...

Can you sit while playing? I played it at Playstation expo and was fine while sitting. Standing while playing VR has terrible consequences.

Yup, I was sitting. I think its just me, considering I can get motion sick from just plain old regular FPS games if the FOV is bad.

I believe the second review embargo (for games like Driveclub, RIGS, and more) is up on Wednesday.

One final update from Metacritic on the hardware.

Summary:

38 reviews
3 'Extremely Positive'
29 'Positive'
6 'Mixed'

You just need more vr hrs to get some vr legs

This is an awful advice. VR legs are more of an urban legend than a guarantee. Yes, some people get use to it, but other people don't. More so, some people might even associate the headset with sickness if they force themselves through playing while feeling sick.

Convinced myself this was coming out Wednesday and just realized the 13th is Thursday. Gahhhh.

Anyway. I'm still excited. I kept my hype in check and checked out PSVR six or seven times at Best Buy so I feel confident in my purchase.

I'm visiting my parents on the 18th and can't wait to bring it and show them. I feel like my dad could handle an actual game but I'm definitely showing my mom The Deep. Can't wait to record her freaking out.

The comfort rating isn't a game setting, it's more like the ESRB rating. It's to give you an idea about the content before purchase.
LOL, even though you never wrote "setting" and I wrote "rating" in my post, I totally still ignored that word and thought you meant setting for some reason, lmao.

I had one pre-ordered for myself and for my brother in law and Best Buy, instead of asking me for a new payment method, decided to just cancel my pre-orders immediately because the card I had on file was old.

How nice of them.

Happened to me at amazon for changing shipping address and they did nothing to fix it.

How nice of them too.

Thank god I did not do this. Ohhhh man.

I was so close to swapping addresses but after losing my Destiny preorder doing the same thing I questioned if they'd updated the system.

There is no such thing as VR legs. If a VR experience is done right, it just works. If it doesn't work right, that's on the developer, not the user.

Amazon did the same exact thing to me. On Twitter, the Amazon Help account said I should have received a message before they cancelled and to check my span/junk folder for it. I checked and there was nothing there. Amazon didn't respond to me again after I told them that.

When did they cancel them? If they did that today or even yesterday, it could be that you either missed the notification or they didn't send you one. I got a notice on Friday night that my payment wasn't able to process and that it needed to be updated or it would be canceled in 24 hours.

I canceled my preorder and instead upgraded my tv from 42" plasma to 55" 4K Oled. Best decision of my life, I think.

Thats a pretty good upgrade.

I still don't know what to do with mine, and its killing me. If it weren't for the fear of not being able to find one for a while. I'd probably would've waited till RE7, which is the game I want to experience in vr.

Got an email from Best Buy indicating it'll be available in some stores starting at 9:00PM Pacific on the 12th. If Amazon doesn't ship mine by then, I may queue up.

Even with super slow Internet speeds, like 1.5 Mbps, you would still be able to download the demo disc and have plenty of time to spare before the system launches.

or you just put the disc in... i buy mostly over PSN but obviously demo disc is a great help because it makes it easy for everyone to get demos.

Interesting, I wonder if there's any reason why someone wouldn't download the demo disc to use over the actual disc?

Bandwidth caps on your Internet account. That's 30+GB I could put towards downloading something else, so I'm going to stick with the demo disc coming with the hardware.

Thanks very much for the link. Just kicked off the download so it'll be done in time for release with time to spare. :)
Plus I won't have to worry about only getting the gimped AUS/EU demo disc.

As I said above, at least for people outside North America we can try all 18 demos rather than the 8 we are getting on disc.

Incredibly Naive

Sure but you have data caps, and with already slow internet you bog down your connection. On top of that seems like the demo disc may lrt you pick and choose what demos you want.

Are you trying to make an argument for why Sony shouldn't make it available for download?

Just cancel it. If you're not sure on purchasing, don't do it. Certainly don't buy one on the basis of being worried about being able to get one at a later date, and then regret it.

Not as a general thing, sure. But on a case-by-case basis, you absolutely can develop an increased tolerance for and physical/mental attunement to certain kinds of VR experience that facilitate longer playing sessions. I know this because I have, and I've seen similar things with friends and colleagues as well.

Because as I've learned from being on this forum, internet infrastructure and pricing in the US is a Mongolian clusterfuck with the consumer at the bottom of the pile.

Here in Aus its equally patchy, and there are still data caps, but generally it is nowhere near as bad as the US, and at least all the main providers offer unlimited data...coming here from the UK where metered access for ADSL was non-existant was a shocker...

Has there been any mention of optimal settings for the brightness for the lights on the DS4? I originally assumed it would need to be as high as possible. Then I watched the kinda funny let's plays and they still had those sticker things partially covering the light and it was working perfectly for them. Any reason less light would be better?
