Nomura talks Final Fantasy VII Remake in Dengeki PlayStation

Did you guys think a modern day representation of Final Fantasy VII would be quick? It was always going to take a long time even if they didnt overhaul the combat and expand the game. But guess what, this isnt 2005 Square Enix. They have Unreal Engine 4, they have over a decade of experience with HD development, they dont have to worry about the Cell and other drastically different platforms, they have better management, and FF7remake isnt going to get shoved to the side for FFXIII sequels.

Its going to take time, but its coming out, just forget about the game for a while, we have good stuff to look forward to in the meantime from SE. World of FF is this month, FFXV is next month, 2.8 the month after that. Chill.

Yeah, we;re definitely in a much better spot than the 2006-2013 era.

So I don't wanna be that guy but does mean there's going to be a Crisis Core remake of sorts?

Remember that fucking game?

What's so unrealistic about it, though? FFXVI is definitely in at least pre-production for 2-3 years now going by Verendus posts:

Already on the way. The concept of it is also quite unique. It will certainly be something that hasn't been done before in Final Fantasy, if they manage to accomplish it. I'd put it in the back of your mind for now though, as I would personally expect FF15 and KH3 to be out before it.

I knew of three. XV, another one which had a concept demo showcasing summons and traversal involving them and what I initially called FFXVI but now refer to as just another FF, and finally FF7. The middle one is what I assumed to be FFXVI or the next FF project beyond XV. This one comes out of nowhere. These spoilers are very detailed though. I'm hoping this is mobile, because if it's not, that means there is no FFXVI at the moment. There's no way SE can be doing this many big FF projects.

A lot of the FFs are a mash up in my eyes. Even IX which has the tone you're describing has airships and so on.

XVI will be the opposite of XIII though. It's not futuristic so you might get what you want with that.

This is from September 2014:
I see where you got your line of thinking from. But no, I wasn't referring to the Agni tech showcase (that's not what a concept demo looks like), that's just what those posters assumed. And XVI is in development, it's not just concept now. I didn't know that for a fact 9 months ago, I do now.

Whenever a game uses "middleware," I expect mediocrity. Just see how poor TLOU looks.
Action game play? Split into multiple releases? Constant delays? No release date in sight? This remake is shaping up to be a train wreck.

....on the plus side, that means that as the FF fan base's love of VII is dwindling, is it time for the best Final Fantasy to step up and finally take it's place as the most popular game in the series? I'm talking of course about:

Final Fantasy VIII.

I'd love to see a Crisis Core Remake being one of the episodes. I'd even love to see Advent Children remade as a game.

I want Cissnei to be part of the games. >_<

Yeah, I guess FFVII is 2018 but that's ok, because 2017 is all about KH III! 2017 is KH 15th anniversary anniversary BTW.

Holy shit, already?

I'll try to keep an open mind, but I'm not high this being more action based.

Yeah, I'm not expecting this until at least 2018 if not later. Maybe a demo a la Duscae or that Kingdom Hearts thing at most.
Just wait until it gets rebranded as FFXVI.

People saying 2018, you do remember this is coming to us in parts right? I think there's a good chance we'll get the first part next Holiday season.

Are we just going to gloss over how Nomura also had unfortunate things going on like XIV vanilla and made to work on XIII and its sequels?.

The team constantly got pulled away to do other things so I am willing to give him a fair shake.

there is no way we would get the first episode later than 2018. Remember the remake is divided in 3 games, so it shouldn't take the same developtime like a full Final Fantasy

the thing is, each part is supposed to be a full RPG experience, midgar will be far more explorable, there will be far more development on other characters, then theres all the rest outside midgar, ireally dont see this coming in 2017, seems pretty unrealistic

It's Nomura.

March 2019 for Part One (delayed from its original November 2018 release date), November 2020 for Part Two, January 2022 for Part Three (delayed from its original November 2021 release date).

I can't see them releasing episodes between console generations, but then again with Nomura everything is possible

2017 is FFVII's 20th anniversary. Why not both in the same year? KH3 in the summer, FFVIIR in the winter. Problem solved :p

I cannot imagine this happening, I want to imagine it happening, and I know Unreal 4 rabble rabble, but combine perfectionist director with company very intent on hitting a home run with this title, and I can see this really dragging. If XV and KH3 perform well it would seem to give them more breathing room too.

Yeah, honestly 2017 will most likely be KH3 year and FF7P1 the next.

Surprised SE won't have a FF title to celebrate the 30 anniversary besides FFXV DLC and XIV expansion.

is this how every nomura thread is going to be?

It's getting a little excessive, yes.

I was thinking about making a thread to try to educate people about FFXV's development to try to avoid all these ignorant Nomura comments, but I doubt it would get much attention, the information has been easy to find for years so if people were in anyway interested they would already know by now. Also it is more of common sense, you just need to look at the rate that the KH games were pumped out.

Agreed, this is what I'm guessing. I'm actually ok with that, but NOT ok with the idea of waiting 3+ years in between each installment. I'd rather they wait a little longer to put out part 1 and then release the next parts with no more than a year between them.

Some of my BELIEVING has been worn down during the long waits for XII, XIII, and XV. My hype is still strong, but it's increasingly secular.

Will Square Japan ever stop announcing games so fucking early? It's clear both KH3 and FFVIIR were announced with nothing beyond one area done. And the mess we say about FFVersusXIII the better.

I'm glad to know they're planning to show something about FFVIIR two years after it was initially showed. Jesus.

Agreed, though I would go with about a year and a half between releases.

Also XII HD.

Edit: Probably Dissidia PS4

I honestly forgot about 12HD, don't know about FFD I think we won't get that till it at least has more villains and with the rate they are updating it could still take some time.

Yup, at least one of the bigger teams at BD5 (basically the FFXII/The Last Remnant team including Ito) could've been working on it and in fact, according to Kagari, they were hiring for a big game in the last two years or so, IIRC. FFVIIR isn't made in-house, btw. Main developer is CyberConnect2. So technically even BD1 (Kitase's FFXIII team) could help out.

It won't matter. People like Koozek who are clearly educated on the matter ignore all that and do the same kind of drive-bys they complain about in XV threads.

I'm just glad Nomura has FFXV out of his hands so we can actually play it sometime. I could care less if he decides to spend a decade not making the FF7 remake.

You know I was just joking, right?^^ I made a lot of posts explaining the unfortunate situation of Nomura during Versus and defending him in the past. I'm actually super confident in Nomura w.r.t. FFVIIR and his approach as I said hundreds of times already.

But I do think that FFXV could not have been finished in the same time as with Tabata. I'm happy they decided against Nomura's multi-title saga for FFXV. That was a stupid idea and we would've been waiting 10 years for the whole thing.

Btw, I won't discuss the Versus/Nomura topic anymore, sorry. Nothing to add anymore. I've done this enough.
