Finally finished and really satisfied with the ending that I got

ENDING SPOILERS

I decided to leave town and then it said how Cassandra took over but noone took her claim seriously and various folks like the columbians etc came gunning for her. So she killed a lot of folks and then the governor withdrew money from the various city services like maintenance, bin collection etc letting it slowly rot and she then shot the governor in the head. The national guard was then called it. Essentially the whole city was left to rot at the end by the looks of it

Lincoln meanwhile went off to California, met a girl but split up with her and went travelling to various places sending postcards to Father James whilst the FBI fella obssessed with the case is waiting for him to slip up someday so he can get him

Gonna take a look at the other endings but I'm very satisfied with how that turned out

Overall I absolutely loved the shit out of it to be honest. Despite the various issues it has (indeed the repetitiveness and technical issues being the main points) the core game is so strong I had a blast for the entire time I played it. I can completely understand people getting fed up with it or bored, it just hit the right notes for me personally.

I'll probably play through it again once they patch/clean it up a bit and I'm looking forward to the DLC they'll be releasing next year, they sound like they could be interesting.

Aw that kinda sucks that Cassandra's reign is crappy and the city kind of dies. I was planning to leave the city to her when I finish

You don't get to actually pick who will rule if they are all equal. I had spread the districts out evenly, noone got left out and it just turned out her rule was bad when I left.

I'm left wondering if anything affects it, like if you give her all the districts does it change or is it just bad regardless etc. Does giving them certain districts change anything. Probably overthinking it to be honest

I just realized I posted my impressions into the Review Thread by accident. Woops.

Gonna copy them to this thread:

I'm so mad about the fact that these amazingly written characters are locked and hidden behind one of the most boring and tedious open world concepts I have ever seen. This reminds me of Assassin's Creed 1, only that AC1 is almost a decade old now (jesus christ) and was highly criticised for it's monotony even back then. At least I didn't have to look for those 100 flags to unlock some kind of bullshit mechanic "motivating" me to grind electronic parts and wiretap thingies.

I'm seriously so fucking bummed about this. I desperately want to complete every side mission because I want these characters to be loyal to me because I actually care about them and because I really, really, really want to see the next well written and directed cutscene. But then they make me drive 250 miles into the Bayou, only to kill a handful guys there and then drive a slow-ass semi ALL THE WAY back. And then they want me to do the same with a boat. And the main missions are no different! I'm regularly visiting the same locations twice - once because I have to destroy some crates or whatever and then, DIRECTLY AFTERWARDS I have to go there again, only now it's repopulated and the boss is hiding there. It's soooo boring.

How? How can this happen? How can you focus so much on your narrative and then decide to hide it behind hours and hours and HOURS of obtuse, tedious bullshit? Just imagine GTA hiding its best story moments (and they'd wish to be as good as Mafia 3's) behind you driving the Taxi for 4 hours. That's what this is. Goddamnit!

Oh wow thats pretty interesting. I'll see how it goes in my playthrough. I'm trying to keep all of them together. I wouldn't be surprised if you were right and districts given actually do effect the end

Are you supposed to be able to take over the Bayou? I finished the game and never got the chance.

Vito took over the city after Lincoln left in my play through. He turned it into a prosperous gambling/tourist location. The "Las Vegas" of the south.

Out of curiosity how evenly did you split the districts ?

I gave everyone 3 districts, but I think my game was bugged as I was not able to claim the Bayou. Vito got River Row, Frisco and Downtown. Cassandra got the Holler, Barclay and the french ward. Burke got Verdun, Tickfaw and Southdowns

The past couple of days I have been only able to play in short bursts and it makes this game A LOT more fun. Even though the stealth is so simple due to the AI its actually really fun taking on a whole base of a racket boss with nothing but takedowns

I had the most anticlimactic escape in the Downtown boss story mission. I went through the parking garage, got in my car and drove off without even shooting anyone LMAO.

This game is boring me to death. I really want to like it for the story but the missions ugh... I'm just doing the same shit in slightly different areas for what feels like hours now and I'm done with it now I can see that this is how the whole game is going to be.

Just gonna return and spoil myself on the story.

So it's got 68 on Mc, how's the game to those who played it?

I think 68 is probably fair. Initial impressions are stronger as it has a great opening / prologue but then the realisation that all the missions are the same sinks in the longer you play.

The Story, Characters, Driving, Combat & Music are all top notch though...and its the only reason I didn't stop playing after the prologue. Its just a damn shame the missions themselves are so repetitive

So the missions basically are on repeat?

Basically, yeh. I cant speak for the latter stages of the game...but the main missions all follow the same structure in different locations. Within a mission chain, the same locations are re-used even...playing through it is really starting to feel like a grind.

Sums up my feelings exactly. May change later but don't mind the repetition since I'm pretty much stealthing the game. Scum saving on the cloud in case I screw up..and so I don't get bugged.

Damn, reused assets to??

i never played mafia 2 and i'm not really sure Joe is exactly or why he's relevant but there seems to be a lot of insinuation that he's dead if you vito's side missions

Have you finished Vito's missions? Because he says that
he's actually not sure if Joe is dead or not. Joe is a main character in Mafia 2 and he's Vito's friend.

Do you guys think a patch could help with the tedious mission structure at all or is this too much to ask?

No chance...the structure as it is exists is the core of the game, all progression is tied to it. The only hope is for the upcoming DLC to mix things up a bit.

Just think if they took the time to address everyone's concerns with the base game and make the expansions truly great. They could turn around a lot of the negative perception of the game. Now, if they put out some Batman Arkham Knight level dlc then they're just gonna bury themselves.

This is EXACTLY how I feel. I want to finish the game so bad just to see what happens with the characters but man I don't know if I can keep doing the same exact stuff over and over at the same locations. Debating on trading it in and just watching the story on youtube.

Man, dying seems to really screw up the lighting/weather on my end. Almost every time I've died so far is when the skybox, rain, and sunlight start going haywire. Other times I've had long 5 hour session where I don't die and the day/night cycle is perfect. As soon as I respawn and it's raining I know I have to manually reload the save to fix it.

First time I've heard that ambient jazz pause menu music earlier. 10/10 music.

You're fine, the Bayou always remains neutral, can't take it over

It's a pity they never implemented a taxi / fast travel system, as it may have helped with the tedium a little. I exclusively drive the Berkley Stallion around as it is quick..but it would be nice to have the option of fast travel.

I'm started to get very bored of those long assed drives from one end of the map to the other. The radio stations help a little...but it doesn't take long before you start hearing the same music over and over as well.

It's sad that we don't have any jazz station though...

Yo damn @ the cross burning/forced integration rant on WBYU. That's the most racist thing I think I've heard so far in the game if only for the perfectly captured fake concern and coded language.

Yeah the OST is great, but I would love more jazz and blues.

20+ hours into the game, and it`s so repetitive. There`s also a bunch of game breaking bugs. Missions that won`t activate, so I had to restart the game a bunch of times. Compared to the two previous games, this is a huge let down. It seems like some games are getting worse this generation.

How long is the campaign played at normal pace? Also is there anything to do like side missions that are worth doing or is it just filler crap?

Hmmmmm. My first impressions were very positive, but after only a handful of hours the repetition is obvious and, frankly, bizarre.

I'm still in The Hollow, so (mild spoilers I guess):

1) Cleared out Perla's
2) Flushed out the boss who was now at Perla's, so I had to clear it out all over again.

I was surprised at this, thought it was a bit odd to find myself returning to somewhere I've literally just been to do essentially exactly the same stuff.

I figured it might be more or less a one off, but the very next mission:

1) Clear out the Church
2) Flush out the boss who has now appeared at the Church, so I had to clear the same place out all over again. And to make this more irksome, I'd already cleared out the church area long previously having stumbled across 'enemy turf' whilst exploring and figuring I may as well kill everyone there. So I cleared that zone 3 times.

Is this how it goes? Is every Racket Boss going to show up at the place where I've just cleared all his goons out of? Because I'm already rolling my eyes after two occurrences.

That's a seriously bizarre design decision if so.

Yes..every single mission plays out like this. It really is bizarre....you'd think a criminal racket would steer clear of repopulating an area after so many of their colleagues just got wiped out from there moments before.

Man I gave Burke 3 rackets only to jack the districts from him leaving him with just two and he didn't betray me. I didn't even do his loyalty missions.

LMAO at the way you kill Sal Marcano

Fuck this game.

Final (?) mission spoilers:

Great design, after 25 hours of killing, someone thought it would be fun to plant way too many enemies in the Casino.

I've tried over 10 times and am about to break the disc in half and never ever look back at this game again.

Steam coming out of my ears man, I just want this game to end damnit.

Honestly surprised you're having that much trouble with it, only took me a few goes. The key thing is that you can stealth most of it, I used my silenced pistol to take out most of them. That and whistling is overpowered as hell

That's how I'm approaching the game, I do the same for Ubisoft games and it tends to make me enjoy the games in the long run.

It's actually the first mission I'm having a lot of trouble with. Maybe I should have just stopped after the third death and try again later cause it's damn frustrating.

Would have preferred something like the LSD or Cagefight missions, not 'kill another 100 dudes'...

edit: tried again after a break and finished it in 1 time lol.

And there's the end credits, ending spoilers:

Decided to leave town and Vito took over the city, he finished the casino, built another one and then the city 'exploded' with new hotels, arenas etc. Vito still lives in the penthouse of the casino, looking over the city he now owns.

Also lol at John Donovan finishing off that senator in front of the cameras, he definitely is my fav character in a game in years.

All in all I enjoyed the game but it went just on too long, especially annoying because of it's repetitive nature.

I like how the police can't hit a barn door from three feet away, yet they can shoot your tires out as you're speeding away at 100mph.

The police obviously operate on the same rules as the player's gun aiming - that sort of 'timed lock-on' mechanic.

Can I just say I think that mechanic is fantastic. Tap L1 to change target, tap R1 to fire at the target once it's locked on. It's so intuitive and smooth and it doesn't interrupt the flow of the gameplay.

Car chases in general are awesome in my experience, especially when you realise that alleyways and shortcuts are the path to escape.

I think I'm nearing the end. I gave up this morning, though, after the FOURTH crash. I'd only had it crash twice on me before, during about 10-13 hours of gameplay, but it crashed four times this morning.

I have some questions, though:

1) When it says you've earned 50,000/70,000 (example), do you have to manually pick that up from a racket?

2) Where the Hell are the garbage barges? I can't find anything. That's the last thing I need for the one racket group.

3) How many missions are involved with the upper tier?
