Can't wait to listen. Am at work right now, not sure if I am going to wait for the album to be out or just listen to the leak. I usually try to avoid them when I can. Hm. Lemme know what you all think.

Fucking hell, this album is so damn GOOD. I can't wait to buy the deluxe version this Friday. I hope she gets the acclaim she needs for this era to smash.

Diamond Heart: Strong start to the album! Not sure if this is single quality?

A-YO: SO MUCH FUN! This is going to be great live.

Joanne: Beautiful lyrics.

John Wayne: Heavy Metal Lovers of 2016 and bitch I am SLAYEd.

Dancin' In Circles: Needs to be the third single. It literally sounds like she time-traveled to TFM era and gave us this song as a gift. I LOVE the whipsery chorus.

Perfect Illusion: Still amazing.

Million Reasons: Hopefully the second single.

Sinner's Prayer: Good.

Come to Mama: Drag queens are gonna eat this up!

Hey Girl: I. am. BALD. Florcence sounds wonderful.

Angel Down: SO SAD.

So Perfect Delusion is the most pop song on the album?
Not at all. A-Yo is her channeling Taylor, while Dancing in Circles would be a top5 song in The Fame Monster. That said, I love her new sound, specially in the first song and John Wayne, it's a weird mix of pop/rock/dance, tilting to indie. Her piano ballads are great though. She's out Adeling Adele here.

The weakest song might be the one with Florence, sadly so, it's one of those Florence's sloow songs, you know what I'm talking about, like Leave My Body and such.

oh okay. I haven't listened yet, I was just reading what people are saying about it so far. Am interested in hearing Joanne.

So after finishing first listen, i'm going to place it ahead of The Fame & ARTPOP. It's somewhere between TFM (still her best) & Born This Way.

Alright, I'm going into blackout until Friday. All I've heard so far is that it's a total slay but that's the furthest I'm willing to indulge right now!

See ya'll on the other side <3

It's an honor whenever I post something popgaf brings Britney up to the discussion even if the topic is not about Britney. Her power! Keep talking about her anyways
Gal, your fave rejected Telephone

Because it wasn't good enough

For her immaculate ears

And then churned out Britney CargoPants.

Stay losing to the only true heir to the heavenly throne.

Joanne is an album I never thought I wanted from Gaga. So unexpected and so surprisingly well done. It sounds nothing like her previous material. I mean I'm only 4 songs in but I'm digging the sound of the album so far.

Make Me outsold Perfect illusion.

Gal, your fave rejected Telephone

Yeah but then released Hold it Against Me which debuted at #1 (or Womanizer since Britney rejected that trash during the Circus era). Can't say the same about Telephone, peaking at 3. Anyways, Britney 10 years into her career released Circus, and gaga is releasing Joanne. sad

I will enjoy watching Joanne falling down the charts... but something tells me it won't debut high enough to fall down.

Joanne is not the masterpiece I was expecting. Each chorus is the same line repeated over and over. A mess. It's more like a bonus track.

And, Lordt, FINALLY some interesting production in John Wayne.

I really did not expect to enjoy the album this much. It's really good imo.

I don't ever want to listen to or hear about ARTPOP again because Joanne is so much better.

Dancing in Circles is the first real slay for me, Perfect Illusion totally doesn't fit in this album and is still a disappointment, Million Reasons is not good, Sinner's Prayer is cute, and Come To Mama is an insta-delete track.

Okay uh.... Joanne review I guess

I would listen again tier:
Dancing In Circles: A slay. Fun production, catchy lyrics, and overall just a fun song to bop to.
Hey Girl: Great production, Florence's vocals work well with Gaga's.
Angel Down: Similar to Hey Girl, very emotional too.

It was ok tier:
Perfect Illusion: It' s a shame the song falls apart tbh
John Wayne: It's an inferior version of Dancing in Circles.
Million Reasons: The only country sounding song in this album I can stand

Forgettable Tier
Diamond Heart: Shitty, shitty vocals... not fun to listen to her screech in your ears.
A-Yo: repetitive and annoying
Sinner's Prayer: Can't do that country shit

Shit tier:
Come To Mama: I skipped this on first listen
Joanne: Disappointing and terrible title song... like it just sucks ass and it repeats itself so much

in conclusion:....I mean I like 3 songs I guess. This is just like any other Gaga album for me because I like a few songs and I can't be bothered to listen to the rest ever again. What's good is damn god tho

Bless. The last two songs are probably the best thing Joanne has to offer. Hey Girl is the lesbian anthem of our generation, and Angel Down is great closing serng (but WTF at that lazy bridge).

I think I'm probably going to use only half of this album. It's still down there with ARTPOP in her discog.

Whaaaaaat

It's trash sis.

Yeah, I'm up to John Wayne and it's the first one I like. Diamond Heart is almost painfully middle-of-the-road, A-Yo really reminds me of Manicure (that's bad, btw), and Joanne sounds a bit amateur-ish.

Also, yikes at almost every song being just barely over 3 minutes.

It is, of course, Lady Gaga - Joanne review time.

What can I say. This is an unexpected yet expected turn for Gaga (shock value was only going to take her so far). It's obvious this is a two sided album, the one she wanted to do, the calm, country like for her dead aunt and her grieving, and then the pop album she knew we expected. Thankfully, I think that contrary to Rebel Heart, this one strikes a good balance, helped in part by an uniform production that makes everything gel together. In general lyrics are the biggest step up for her, they are actually listeneable now. If not heartbreaking in parts.

All in all a good album, probably her third more solid, but one that definitely seems a bit sophomoric, like, it should have came out after The Fame Monster, not 10 years into her carreer. Songs are good enough, but they lack a bit of edge, It's like an album of You and Is. That said, You and I is a good enough song, and so are these, for the most part:

Straight to iPod list tier
- Diamond Heart: What a start! This one summarizes the whole album. It has it all, good lyrics, country shades, loud guitars, electronic beats, subdued production, catchy chorus and a bit of Florence flavor. Her delivery is a bit over the top, but what can you do, girl has pipes.

- Dancing in Circles: The true bop of the album. It's obviously a callback to her old era, with a bit of Gwen Stefani thrown in for good measure. It sounds a bit like those indian/Caribbean songs we get in the radio now, but again, the production is so subtle that it lets itself shine. Love her voice in the chorus, I didn't even think she could do it nowadays.

- Perfect Illusion: I can't understand the hate for this song. I can actually hear new instruments absent from the single version, productions seems a bit fuller. A good song passionately delivered.

- Sinner's Prayer: The best of the country songs. It doesn't live up to the awesome intro riff, but it's still one of the strongest slow songs Gaga has ever done. Her delivery is surprisingly restrained, and it really works. Some might find it similar to Emily Sande's "Next to me".

- Angel Down: Her best piano ballad ever. Simply as that. You can taste the pain on her voice. It's lovely, simply lovely. It becomes weird at the end, and it's better for it.

Good enough tier

- John Wayne: Another pop song with a good sound and a catchy beat. Could be used a a single and would fit into the top40 no prob. It just lacks a bit of punch. It's also a goood representation of the general new Gaga sound. Very modern. It just lacks the perfect hook to become a classic.

- Joanne: lovely melody, but sounds like one of those Lana del Rey pre Lana songs, too simple for its own good. Will be a hit for the old Taylor demographic, it's country pop at its best.

- Million Reasons: The simplest song Gaga has ever written, also one of her most heartfelt, it's like she's about to cry the whole song. Truly a full on country piano ballad, Lady Antebellum - like song, with very cute lyrics. Fans of the genre shouldn't let it go.

You tried tier
- A-yo: it sounds a bit like a Shake it Out combined with Manicure, it's unashamedly pop, but might sound a bit dated, like perhaps too american. It's fun, but not very musically compelling.

- Hey girl: I thought Gaga + Florence was going to be the duet of the decade. I was wrong. This song tastes like water. Good lyrics, but its musically nothing. Florence saves the song.

- Come to mama: it's another "nothing" song. There's nothing wrong with it, but there's also nothing completely right. It needs a good hook or two. The lyrics are the corniest of the albun

Unlisteneable tier
- None? What the hell? I thought this album followed artpop? Who can this be?

..

All in all a solid, not excellent album, but also one of her less imperfect. Everything works, at some level, there's nothing broken, just perhaps too middling for, well, Gaga.

In short, it's the anti Artpop. The production is extremely restrained, her voice is the center of the songs, lyrics are not embarrassing, she doesn't care anymore for not being 2008's Gaga and doesn't embarrasses herself trying to self-plagisrize.

In fact, if it has a big sin, is that it feels sophomoric, like she's embarrassed of her past. It's understandable, as she's been laughing stock for years, but perhaps she could strike a balance next time. Songs like Dancing in Circles makes me confident that's the case.

Make no mistake, this will flop, her teenage public will cry themselves to sleep at night, the 20 something demographic will find it a bit too moody, and the adult one might not buy her as a serious artist. But it certainly marks a much needed new start for her.

This is not definitive Gaga, it's a stepping stone for her next phase, one that, for once, has a good outlook.

7/10 + points for hope.
