Uch episode 8 was a mess.

How many times can you shoot a gun on the street and nobody will care. Ambulance gets flipped over suddenly sirens within 30 seconds. That ending also. That garbage truck driver doesnt notice somebody shooting a gun 10 meters behind him and then casually drives off?

I love how
Diamondback shot Cage in the middle of the street with people everywhere, and then BLEW UP an ambulance, and walked around with a bigass rifle. Then proceeded to shoot up a building. Physically assault a police officer. Have a shootout with Cage in an abandoned building. And continue chasing Cage in the middle of a road with the same bigass rifle when it is ALREADY MORNING. And somehow, there isn't an APB out on the dude.
Amazing storytelling.

Yep and somehow in episode 9
Luke cage is the most wanted man, no one give a shit about Diamondbacks

WTF was up with the last episode. Suddenly they decide to layer on the cheese ten meters thick. Big disappointment.

I'm a lot more positive than most of this thread on this series. I guess I'm just happy that it didn't go full retard like JJ. It's not as good as Daredevil, but still watchable in its own right. There were some inconsistencies
we hate cops! we hate cops! let's give them better arms! yes that's a great idea!
but in general people acted according to their character and it's nice to have a show like this that features almost completely black characters. I thought the weapons trade leading up to the societal criticism was surprisingly well written. The only character I really didn't like was
Diamondback
. Comic book villain in the wrong meaning of the phrase.

Loved:
Cottonmouth, Misty, Shades

Hohum:
Mariah, Luke Cage himself, I still feel like they miss the charisma needed for the role.

Full season spoilers

Overall I liked it, but the show definitely bungled the Cottonmouth -> Diamondback transition. Diamondback and his characterization was a big problem. The show instantly felt cartoony and cliche when he came on the scene. At least it never got offensively bad like Jessica Jones did in its final stretch.
With all the dangling plot threads left over, I imagine there will be a Season 2 at some point.
Colter won me over in the role much more than he did in Jessica Jones.

I'd rank MCU Netflix as Daredevil S1 > Daredevil S2 > Luke Cage > Jessica Jones.

just finished the season

Diamonback is intimidating, but feels innecesary
the series will do fine with just Shades/mariah team up with the cops against Luke
all the "magic" bullets was innecesary as well all the cliche drama between Luke and Diamondback
like i said early, just 8 episode should be enough

So getting close to completing it. I want to say it's another DareDevil S2. Just nosedives half way through. Anything to do with Diamondback sucked.

If I want to rank the shows so far.

DDS1 > DDS2 > Luke Cage

I feel like DDS1 is the only one that built up the entire season. Both DDS2 and Luke Cage blow their load on episode 7.

I also need to say how fine Rosario Darson is.

I just finished episode 8.

It's all just...what the fuck.

Yeah. I'm like halfway through episode 9 now and the show is kinda losing me. Didn't like how they killed off
Cottonmouth. He was a good antagonist and seems like he's now replaced by a cartoon villain.
. Meh.

Loved the black representation on the show, music was fantastic too.
Series was a bit disappointing, imo. Started off well, but went downhill from episode 4 on.

Finished the season.... Yup, it's definitely a Marvel/Netflix show.

They should seriously consider a 45 minute hard limit on each episode for every Netflix show. Editing and removing unnecessary elements can really improve the quality of these shows.

I'm on episode 9. What the fuck happened in episode 8. What was that bullshit?
Also Cottonmouth was such a fucking good villain. He went out like a fucking punk just for this boring ass Diamondback bullshit

But that's not even the main problem. Episode 8 was only 48 minutes and it was horrible! All of it! They should just consider a better writing team supervising this shit.

Finished it up today. First 7 episodes are solid. Last 6 range from meh to terrible. Everything to do with Diamondback was terrible.

Cottonmouth should have been the villain for the whole series.

If they couldn't fill enough episodes with him, just cut the number of episodes.

(I realize that this might have been contractually impossible but I'll still complain)

I'm a little upset about what Diamondback became. Was that consistent with the comics at all? Everything I've seen of him, he seemed like this guy.

But, I'm ready for everyone in here to finish so we can start speculating about next season. Seemed we got some previews at the end of the last episode.

I agree. I like the actor who plays Diamondback a lot. But Cottonmouth should've been the main man all the way through. I think Stryker made the series take a turn. After the novelty about bullets that can pierce Power Man's skin wears off, he gets a little tiresome.

I don't understand why this show is so hyped up. I just finished it and I feel it's meh at best. Everyone saying it's better than Jessica Jones, thank you for saying that before I wasted my time on that too.

Also Luke and Claire's relationship felt so forced, I still don't understand why she was there and why put your life at risk for this man you don't even know. They also had zero chemistry. Luke and Misty was a much better pair.

Just finished, wasn't impressed. Music was good, Mike Colton as Cage was good - but the action scenes were boring as hell, diamondback was a disappointment and the ending was OK at best.

DD S1 > DD S2 > Jessica Jones > Luke Cage

Spoiler:

What bugged me
was Cotton Mouth was murdered in his club, there was a hostage situation in his club, yet the club itself was open to the public again like nothing ever happened near immediately. You'd think after two major incidents like that, the city would shut that shit down for good.

How would the city be able to seize control of private property like that?

The Get Down is better, but it's not better at it. There are more predominantly black music movies, Dreamgirls, Krush Groove, etc. But Marvel superhero movies are generally as white as they get.

Maybe I misunderstood the context of your statement, but I simply meant that I think The Get Down is a better series about black culture in society with a positive message. The emphasis was on the positive message.

I think it's fantastic that Luke Cage exists, it's great to more diverse superhero shows. I just wish it didn't fall off a cliff.

The Judas bullets lost a lot of danger after the lengths Luke and Claire had to go to in order to remove them. You knew Luke wasn't going to get shot again because they couldn't repeat that process.

I'd still give Jessica Jones a shot. It has a decidedly different tone from the other stories, so you might enjoy it even if the other Netflix Marvel series fall flat for you. And David Tennant is just amazing in it.

Claire and Luke actually met during Jessica Jones too. There's a bit of context there you're missing if you haven't seen it. I sort of feel Claire's arc builds well on what happened during Daredevil as well (she's the only character to appear in all four series so far).

I think my ranking so far is Daredevil S1 > Jessica Jones > Luke Cage > Daredevil S2.

Welp, I'm finished. That was...underwhelming. I'd definitely rank both seasons of Daredevil above this which is a shame, as this started strong but fizzed out in the end. The thing that gives Daredevil an edge, however, is that there are some elements of crazy/pulp or extremely charismatic characters (like Fisk or Castle) that make the inevitable decline in quality a bit easier to go through.

Luke Cage had nothing of the sort.

I liked this series so much more when it was a character study of the Black Masculinity. Cottonmouth being a product of his environment and his inability to escape from it all was *FAR* more compelling as opposed to street level superheroics.

I really like Diamondback and all of the villains in the show, and it's them that elevate the series to "good" for me.

also the episode where the cops are cracking down on black folk feels very odd, it's like they almost want to make a statement about race relations but then jump back right before they're about to say something. why are most of the officers that get camera time roughing up black folk also black? why is the closest thing we hear about race the "if you're black and a cop you're white" remark? it kinda gives the impression the show is trying to say that the cops are trying to do good and it's the black people who are causing all the strife.

maybe the showrunners wanted to have something real to say and then disney went "uh 40% of america is voting for trump that's a lot of people we'll isolate"? maybe the director and writer are out of touch? I dunno. that episode left a really bad taste in my mouth.

also luke cage's actor needs to be told what to do with his hands. seriously, why didn't anyone producing the show catch this?

Finally finished it. Alot of people say that Daredevil and Jessica Jones are to long. But never agreed to that really. But this one i agree took abit to long overall. Im combination with alot of plotholes etc. I think this one is the "worse" of all atm. It had some good moments sure and still enjoyed it. But it dragged on to long,

I do like the small Defenders hints. Like. "i know a good lawyer" And the ending was intresting with Stryker (Terrible villian tho. Cottonmouth was 10 times better)
