Battlefield 1's dynamic resolution looks to be a bit broken

So retro it turns your gameplay experience into a postage-stamp sized REAL video from 1993.

You'd think they would have hard limits on how low the dynamic resolution would go and it wouldn't be possible to do that. Huh.

It's neat seeing modern graphics rendered at such low resolution. It's like screenshots from an alternate dimension where computing power massively outpaced display technology.

I noticed this happening to me when I go to the Xbox One dashboard and then back to the game, it gets all pixelated like that for a quick second, then back to normal, not really an issue as it doesn't happen to me during gameplay at all. But cool to know that it's the dynamic resolution trying to keep it all running smoothly.

I wonder if this is what was wrong with my Xbox then.

HA, and people will tell you this is the best looking game on the XB1....

Dynamic res is all about locking the framerate, didn't dice get the memo? Resolution drops of 160x90, means there's no minimum rez, who knows, it may even drop lower...all for that 60fps locked????......but Oh NO... it's barely even 50fps locked, what a game... long stretches of 29fps and below....Dice keeps on delivering.......

Will it not automatically run at a higher res due to dynamic res without patch ? Scorpio will at least

I have no idea.

Fantastic.

I thought maybe it was but couldn't remember.

Here's a video confirmation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfOVnGLIvUI&t=5m15s

160x90 must be a bug. I'm sure It'll be patched soon.

Console CPU's must be the bottleneck in conquest mode with 64 players online.

Portable version confirmed?

Played for 5 hours last night on PS4 and never saw anything close to this. Didn't even notice it was using dynamic res. And I sit about 4 feet from a 42-inch display.

Not saying that the info in the OP is wrong- just that it must not be happening often.

At least at that resolution it got stable 60fps right?

No- even a technique like this won't necessarily allow for a locked 60 if the CPU hits a bottleneck. It seemingly improves the experience, though- or DICE wouldn't have chosen to do it. One thing is for sure- BF1 both looks and runs tremendously better on PS4 than BF4 did.

You should ask Mark Cerny to install a new CPU into your SoC. Because that's extremely important when it comes to framerates on large conquest games in Battlefield.

You can give Dice shit about this particular bug where the min res isn't set for the dynamic scaling, and general launch optimization bugs, but you can't give them shit for hardware limitations. That's on the box you're playing it on. If you care a lot about performance, you're on the wrong platform.

I think it's supposed to look like that. It's supposed to run at the same resolution that it would have done on 1914 hardware, it's too legit for you people.

Over-reacting! As usual.

After the fck up with BF3 and 4 I would have expcted DICE to deliver a great product. You cant have it all.

Still gonna buy this game its just dissapointed that the game has issues like this (and framerate all over the place)

You're in the wrong place, I'm afraid. From what I can gather, this thread is for drive-bys and snark only.

Well, to be fair, my comment was made mostly in jest; as a software developer, it really tickles me when a feature works too hard/well at its purpose and ends up transforming into a bug.
